ParticipantDanger zone….we look REALLY tired.
ncsu1987
ParticipantNeed a solid 7 min here without letting them stretch a lead.
ncsu1987
Participant^I like the way you think. These announcers are killing me – who was that last foul on? The post-travel foul on Plums?
ncsu1987
ParticipantIngram is a tough matchup for Abu.
EDIT: BTW what is this defense called? 3-2 stand-around?
ncsu1987
Participant^Maybe, but Duke has hit a couple with hands in their face.
And I’m with Wuf, can’t believe that call for Mav’s 2nd. Was that Eades on that call? Mike’s usually better than that…
ncsu1987
ParticipantNice start, but worried about fatigue in the 2nd half.
ncsu1987
ParticipantWell done, as always. Don’t understand it, but believe UNx will get 1-seed if they make it to Sunday.
Thanks for all the work that goes into these all year, I always look forward to them.
ncsu1987
ParticipantWhat an unexpected surprise, you did indeed sneak up on me. Thanks for the fantastic preview, looking forward to following this season.

ParticipantUnbelievable team effort, and the seniors leading the way on Senior Day! Amazing, wish I could have been there.

Participant^Yes, everything takes on a whole new level when Bibles, judges, juries and sworn testimony are involved. But all of that PALES in comparison to the fun we’d have with DISCOVERY. UNx is doing everything in their power to delay while negotiating – wearing down the NCAA and trying to water down the eventual sanctions. The degree to which they are successful, which I believe will be far less than their trust fund kids think, will decide how happy we are with the results.
But they will avoid a real lawsuit like the plague.
I hear this from UNx supporters all the time. Just tell them like I do – “yes, please, please use any juice you have, any influence of any kind, to push administrators, Ram’s Club honchos, anybody in the direction of a lawsuit. Please, please do that!”

ParticipantJust curious, has there been speculation about DY retiring when her contract expires, or has she said something allusive?

ParticipantI noticed the UNC-CHeat talking points being pushed by everyone over the weekend with the “these kids didn’t do anything wrong.”
Life isn’t fair folks. Some kids have had to compete against players that didn’t have to go to class. Some kids had to compete against players whose parents got six figure jobs and free air fare so they could fly around the country to watch them play. Some kids had to play against players who were being paid with free rental Escalades and excess Adderall to sell for $$. Some coaches worked hard to encourage their kids to get an education while others cashed APR bonus checks for GPA’s earned by MIA’s.
Our little cheater buddies at OC Tech are going to get a multi-year ban in multiple sports and anybody in the media who cries about kids being punished who aren’t guilty of any infractions the needs to call out Roy and Fedora for lying to these kids about the probation that everyone else in the country could see coming for years
(^my emphasis, not OP)
Extremely well said. Once the NCAA verdict is handed down, the “this isn’t fair” card will be played so fast it’ll make our heads spin. We need to find a way to turn the card over so everyone can see the unspoken collateral damage on the other side – something the media blatherers will NOT do for us.

ParticipantNot a tech fan by any means, just a wrestling fan and wanted to read any write ups about this match because it should be great and when stumbling across this i couldn’t pass up the lack of precise info..
ncsu1987
ParticipantHuge effort, amazing win.
This is a special group.

Participant5 years of Les + first 5 years of Herb. State was too painful to watch and watching other games just reminded me how much State sucked.
A world of this. Didn’t think that much about it at the time, but later was embarrassed at how much I lost touch during this dark age.
Appreciate your work – always look forward to these in-season analyses.

ParticipantI’d love to see unx get hammered and then some class action lawsuits from the recent recruits who were lied to.
That would definitely be the icing on the cake, but I’ll settle for all the talent transferring out. I really want to see how HOF Coach Roy handles an entire team of “blue steel” players. Alas, I am destined for disappointment; one way or another, the current team will be Roy’s last.
ncsu1987
ParticipantThanks for the preview. Huskers look stacked, ranked athletes at every weight class. Makes me wonder what Penn State must look like…Also emphasizes that point that State has to continue to excel at team wrestling. Huge test.
If anybody finds a way to watch, please post.

Participant^Glad I’m not the only one scratching the noggin over that. Why do these parents continue to LET their kids sign? Or worse, PUSH their kids to sign at Unx? For a certain fraction of the parents, it’s the impact of the morally bankrupt coaches and administrators pushing the PR message that nothing is going to happen – my contempt for Roy and Fedora is now boundless. But the larger percentage of parents should know better – and yet the pipeline continues. I don’t deny that the scandal has had some impact, but it’s still astonishing to me that ANYBODY will sign with them right now – I think the hammer of God is coming, and I’m not sure why they wouldn’t see that…
In my research for past articles, it always appeared to me that self-imposed sanctions were either (1) a way for the school to admit wrongdoing and hope to soften the eventual blow; or (2) the result of negotiations with the NCAA which the NCAA allows the school to announce. The fact that we’ve seen essentially nothing from UNx in terms of self-imposition really whets my appetite.
I firmly believe that major sanctions are coming, that they all know it, and they’re doing everything they can to stash away talent and money that will enable them to weather the coming nuclear winter. Look for wailing and gnashing of teeth when the announcements are made. UNx, in the person of coaches and administrators, will collude with their journalistic friends to decry the unfairness of it all, while giggling quietly to themselves in private, hunkering down with their ill-gotten gains. The NCAA MUST allow immediate transfer for any revenue athlete without the one year waiting period. If they do not, they will reward this reprehensible strategy.
I applaud Louisville for their proactive strategy, and I hope it works well for them. Va’s point is huge: they are paying a big price. The contrast is nearly blinding.

ParticipantMaybe I missed something, but all I saw was Gott saying that the game was called differently than earlier in the season. I didn’t hear him blame the loss on the refs, and I didn’t hear him say it was one-sided. Coaches look for consistency so they know how to instruct the players; if the defensive strategy is based on published points of emphasis, marginally talented teams will suffer to a greater extent when the officials throw the emphasis out the window.
In all honesty, coaches at all levels will say that the holy grail of officiating is consistency. Consistency on both sides of the ball, consistency from first half to second half, from game to game, etc. When coaches get consistency, the best ones can work with it – regardless of what it is.
I have a general observation, and I’m curious if any others agree. I’ve never been a fan of officials, but in college basketball in particular, I seem to remember greater consistency in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s than we have today. I recognize that there has always been some element of “give the elite teams the benefit of the doubt”, but I see way more seemingly random calls these days. Is it just me?

ParticipantBeen a blast following the team’s progress this year, please add my thanks to Sacco for the excellent coverage and updates.
For the twitter friendly crowd, @PackWrestle does a great job live-tweeting during matches. Never know what you’ll find:

ParticipantBallsy.
No kidding. Love the play call, love the intestinal fortitude.
ncsu1987
ParticipantGotta be kidding me on the late hit. How stupid can you be?
ncsu1987
ParticipantWow, did NOT like that spot. Gotta have this!
ncsu1987
ParticipantBoys and Girls, where is JaySam?
ncsu1987
