^I’m hoping that the boss ordered a house cleaning (of sorts) after last year, and what we’ve seen in the off season is the result. From my perspective, I like what I see from an executive management standpoint: recognition of an issue, alleged review and clarification of expectation, followed by significant change.
Concerned about the “no defensive coach” as well. I, too, thought that Heath was bringing some chops…
^and Beej: I would 100% support your scenario. But it won’t happen…
ncsu1987Participant^Absolutely agree. I will watch this weekend, with the intent of setting expectations for the rest of the post season. A national seed is there for the taking, so no reason to hold back. After last weekend, the boys need to take deep breaths, then decide what they want this season to be.
Must win the series, and a sweep, although unlikely, would be glorious.
‘Dog or Wuf: if we drop the series but take 1 game, are the the blue f*cks ranked high enough to keep the RPI in national seed territory? Can’t find national seeding methodology online, so not sure what else (other than RPI) is used. I’m assuming it’s like basketball, i.e., it’s essentially a committee decision with nebulous guidance.
Hopefully the team will make this discussion mute.
Go Pack!
ncsu1987Participant^LOL, I like it:
Hey, Wuf:
I don’t comment on all your baseball articles, but I read them all and I appreciate the work.
Time for the home stretch…
ncsu1987Participant’87…not expected. Will you join Ricky in re-classification drive?
Holy Mother of f#ckin’ pearls.
Must say I’m a little surprised myself at what I’ve been feeling. I sense that I’m falling for the PR narrative, but my confidence in this matter has taken a beating. Trying to keep the faith, hoping there’s still a surprise in the making….still tilting uselessly at the windmill, but starting to ask WTF am I doing?
Good God…just re-read the previous paragraph…I sound like a whiny little b*tch.
I’ll be back when I find my f@cking testicles.
ncsu1987ParticipantMaintaining our integrity matters at NC State and we will not take short cuts in order to win games.
Truer words were never spoken. We are fighting with two hand tied behind our back. If we are NOT going to play with the big boys we might as well drop to DII.
Integrity matters to me, and it’s why I think a lot of us are struggling with the whole idea now. Rick, glad to see others share the sentiment.
Again, I will await the COI before final judgement, but if the field of play remains blatantly unbalanced, I would rather not play. DII sounds fine to me.
ncsu1987Participant^First round pick === more money than you can imagine.
Hard for me to comprehend, maybe because I never competed at that level. When I was that age, if I had a shot at the NBA, I would have eaten dog sh*t for every meal if my coach told me it would help…
ncsu1987ParticipantHey, Stick, I post very, very occasionally on PP, but I use the same username.
CD, trying hard to keep the faith, man…
I’ve seen you. I had to slightly modify cause some had grabbed mine first, but I’ve never seen him post.
Yeah, I knew who you were – from the similar name AND from the content! There’s a short list of posters on PP that I read, but you’re one of them…

ncsu1987Participant…The NCAA final had its lowest TV rating, people did not turn in to watch the Cheats, they are sick of them. …
I agree with several of your observations, particularly visibility of merchandise (from my personal observation), marketability of our graduates, and strengthening of our academic reputation. Can you by chance cite a source for your “merchandise sales” claim? Or a decline in their reporting academic ranking?
However, you claim that lower TV audience resulted from distaste for Cheats without evidence. I will claim (equally valid/invalid without supporting evidence) that the lower audience resulted from the broadcast being on cable (TBS) exclusively for the first time ever. Neither of us has presented evidence to support such speculation.
I desperately, desperately want you to be right about the backlash.
ncsu1987Participant^
ncsu1987Participant^Rick: I fear you are right.
Some are pointing out that the ANOA still references LOIC for all athletics, but I can’t help but see this as a colossal fail for college athletics. In the cold light of day, everything else still feels like grasping at straws.
I am astonished still that the NCAA backed so far away from the original NOA and from the information that has emerged since it was released. I cannot in any way reconcile their new position with their espoused defense in the current litigation. They are hanging by the “students first” thread, and UNC was their opportunity to walk the walk and talk the talk. Their utter abandonment is baffling. Any lawyers still on the board who see something I don’t?
As theCOWDOG has pointed out, the COI hasn’t met and the penalties haven’t been announced. None of us really knows anything. But from my position, my expectations took a beating yesterday.
Back to Rick’s point: if the NCAA’s UNC ruling moves strongly toward the “wrist slap” end of the spectrum, most programs will be faced with an ethical dilemma: (1) Do we want to continue to work ethically, treating our SA’s with respect, and helping them take advantage of the privilege of attending and the opportunity to get a degree? or (2) do we want to compete? In my mind, these objectives are closer than ever this morning to mutual exclusivity.
ncsu1987ParticipantIt may just be lingering shell-shock from the rest of the day, but this thread hurts my head.
ncsu1987ParticipantI hope there’s something I’m missing, but this is utterly unbelievable to me.
ncsu1987ParticipantMy favorite tweet from last night:
When I first heard that someone sucker punched the UNC mascot last night, my first thought was, "I sure hope Mark Emmert is ok."

Lots of ref noise from UNX fans today. Told them all I would remember this the next time I get lectured about refs not deciding games.
ncsu1987ParticipantThat’s but the 1st Championship they will lose in 2016.
What a beautiful comment to wake up to.
ncsu1987ParticipantHey, ‘dog. Nova’s D seems to have been the difference this yr. My fear has been that tighter whistles would force them to back off, as they can’t match UNX depth.
Agree 100% they win going away on level playing field.
You expect something I don’t?
Also agree with you that they’re going to get hammered once the process runs to completion.
ncsu1987ParticipantFor the first time in 44 years I will not watch the NCAA basketball championship game. I vowed before the tourney began that I would not watch those cheaters, I haven’t yet, and I won’t tonight.
Like I needed another reason to hate those f@ckers…
ncsu1987ParticipantBeen fun guys, heading out for mandatory meeting. Hope to see good news in an hour. Go Pack!
ncsu1987Participant^this. Danger zone, big time.
ncsu1987ParticipantBoys are playing their asses off, can’t fault the effort – just like all year. Proud of the effort, win or lost.
Will like it better with win, tho
ncsu1987Participant^this
ncsu1987ParticipantVery nice half, hard to believe either team can sustain the offensive efficiency. Great game plan from the coaching staff so far. Both head coaches content to rest their shallow teams by eschewing defense for the 1st half. Will be interesting to see adjustments by Mark and K in the second half.
ncsu1987ParticipantBeautiful offensive basketball, right there. Textbook fast break.
ncsu1987Participant^nope, been holding my breath, waiting for that spurt that we just can’t overcome…
