ParticipantHopefully uNX will be very relevant, just not in the way they’d prefer.

ParticipantAs it should be.

Participant“The only other option is to expose a bunch of other schools, hide behind ‘it was a systemic problem’ and promise to fix it going forward.”
That’s my “too big to fail” scenario. I think it’s plausible.

ParticipantWith everything that Brady Hoke is unaware of, you’d think that he was campaigning for The Hat’s job. He’d be a perfect fit for uNX.

ParticipantRW makes the winning TD throw to lead the S’Hawks.
MG throws a TD and TB takes the lead, only for their defense to allow Minn. to drive down for a tying FG. Winner TBD. Edit: OT MG pass for 1st down yardage is caught and fumbled, returned for Minn TD. Ugh.

ParticipantI laughed last night, I laughed again today.

Participant^ I was going to add baseball to the list, and when looking up the Hobbs Johnson story about his miraculous “A’s in 4 classes” summer school session which got his eligibility back…

…I found this gem. Carol Folt, boldly going to the heart of the problem and handing down discipline to the little guys. Anyone heard of any of these people? I know Boxill now, but not two days ago. Get ’em Folt, get ’em! Maybe you can borrow Roy’s BB gun to take out these scalawags.

ParticipantI’m still betting on the “too big too fail” scenario β a slap on the wrist accompanied by hand-wringing and cries that If UNX was reduced to this then the entire system needs to be overhauled…

ParticipantListened to Jay Mohr sports this morning re: this story, and he commented “This looks like an academic issue, right?” For the life of me I don’t understand how people cannot connect the dots. Regardless, the fact the anyone within the athletic program was aware of the “academic support system” means that they are culpable, and that should anyone be shown to be ineligible had they not recieved a sham grade then banners should come down.
Still not holding my breath.

ParticipantI think that’s 2.

ParticipantI don’t usually get hung on on one play or situation, but 1st and goal at the 1, you HAVE to be able to punish (yes, punish) the ball into the end zone. That was 4 down territory IMHO.
MrPlywood
ParticipantShould have been 7. You can’t let those opportunities get away.
MrPlywood
ParticipantYou get 4 tries from the 1 foot line and you run that play? arrrghhhh

ParticipantThis story needs to be read to me by Burl Ives, while he sits in a rocking chair smoking a pipe.

ParticipantMore JW autographs surface, over 2,000 “authenticated”. Evidently he’s a prolific writer, which bodes well for his schoolwork.

ParticipantI love football season. It coincides with “patch the leak in MrPlywood’s roof” season. That’s what I’ll be doing in the short term, hopefully I’ll be down off the shingles in time to watch State wrap up a conference win against BC.
BTW, I couldn’t access the comments through the article on the main page, using Safari or Firefox. Obviously going through the forum works.

ParticipantWell, DD has apologized today. But anyone with a brain saw what was going on. As someone else pointed out, I have not seen two players leave the field any slower than those two FSU guys, one especially took about 2 minutes to walk half the width of the field.
After the second fall down, FSU sacked JB and got the turnover. Even though State got an INT a few plays later and scored 3, I think they would have scored 7 on the original drive if not for the flop. The Pack had driven the ball from their own 6 to FSU’s 13 in 13 plays. They had the Noles on their heels. 49-45 is a different game than 49-41.
I don’t know what the answer is. I did think of Nick Saban’s comments that he was concerned about player safety re: a faster pace of play that would lead to “injuries”. In other words, if opponents play too fast his guys will have to fall down π

ParticipantI really liked the play called when Leatham took over for JB for one play. Instead of a handoff, they went empty backfield and took a shot into the end zone. Pretty gutsy with a cold QB, but he threw it where only our guy could catch it. No TD, but to me it symbolized how State played the whole game.
MrPlywood
ParticipantThat was extremely entertaining, and an excellent effort from the Pack.
MrPlywood
ParticipantOddly, it doesn’t feel like 56 points to me. State has been in the game all day.
MrPlywood
ParticipantBTW, I liked the pass call with Leatham. That was gutsy.
