ParticipantThe article re: Wade is eye opening, and speaks to Pakfan’s comment “Wade is obsessive and micromanaging.” Especially this part: “There have been several reports citing tension between Wade and his players, coaches and administrators at VCU.” We didn’t need that again.
MrPlywood
ParticipantIt was a complete panic move, pulling the guy off the scrapheap. I’m surprised that it worked out as well as it did. I distinctly remember thinking “Who?”
MrPlywood
ParticipantIronically, she has a similar viewpoint to many of our fans who are enamoured with “swagger” and the “it” factor. If I were to wax poetic with her on the effectiveness on coaching I would probably surmise that both Dean and Coach K would have likely failed that test.
And I dare say that V would have passed with flying colors.
MrPlywood
ParticipantIs this the ghost of Kay Yow?
Oops.
She does rub a lot of people the wrong way – assertive, confident, demanding and decisive people tend to do that – especially when they are female.
I think there’s a lot too that. I don’t recall seeing any articles about the other ADs who recently gave their coaches the boot – Illinois, Washington, Missouri, et al. Double standard again. Thanks Sweaty.

ParticipantFrank Langella is doing a helluva coaching job for SC.
MrPlywood
ParticipantTime will tell with KK, but KY pulled the plug on Gott when many thought she’d let that situation fester until she retired.

ParticipantDevils are dooking the bed. We’ll see how it plays out.

ParticipantWatched the vid, so far so good. As they say in Fuquay “you done the talkin’ part.” I do like his energy, the description of his game style and his awareness of the trade-offs. I also liked his personal commitment to player development.
Debbie is right, winning IS fun. KK has embraced the delusional fans from day one, as opposed to others who kept them at arms length.
If Thomas Allen stays in the fold that will be a good sign. Here’s hoping that Y7 hangs around another year.
MrPlywood
ParticipantIs it me or do the Holes get a personal invite to the Sweet 16 every year? With valet parking…
MrPlywood
ParticipantWhere is this press conference you speak of? I’d like to look this guy in the eye and assess the cut of his jib.

ParticipantSomeone left the cake out in the rain
I don’t think that I can take it cause it took so long to bake it
And I’ll never had that recipe again oh noMrPlywood
ParticipantA more famous Keats once wrote: “There is nothing stable in the world; uproar’s your only music.” 19th century dude knew all about being a State fan.
MrPlywood
ParticipantNeeded a home run, got a bunt single.
MrPlywood
ParticipantDon’t know about your brackets, but I’m leading the ESPN contest as of now. 😛
MrPlywood
Participant…from the Indiana AD: “The expectations for Indiana University basketball are to perennially contend for and win multiple Big Ten championships, regularly go deep in the NCAA tournament, and win our next national championship — and more after that. We will identify and recruit a coach who will meet these expectations.”
And people think State is a tough job.
MrPlywood
ParticipantJust checked the score, haven’t watched, hence my Q. Hiring Keatts sounds like a “the beatings will continue until morale improves” strategy. Now that he’s available, how many days do we have to wait to know that it ISN’T Keatts.
MrPlywood
ParticipantSad (NC)State of affairs when I got only 1 bracket done, and that was at the last second.
So, Keatts can coach?
ETA: Just read Wulf’s comments… haha.
MrPlywood
ParticipantEveryone will listen if UCLA, Kentucky, or U*NC calls. Maybe Indiana or Kansas, too.
I was thinking along those lines. But the subset of coaches who would be considered for those jobs is pretty small. I’m thinking about this primarily in regard to Arch and Marshall, who might well be want bigger jobs than State, now or in the future.
MrPlywood
ParticipantPost poofed.
Edited version: Is State a stepping stone job or a destination job?
MrPlywood
ParticipantForget the game clock, play to a number, i.e. 60. Keep the shot clock. Allow a team to take the ball out of bounds instead of shooting FTs – their choice. Although playing to a number would tend to cancel out the “put them on the line” strategy. After 10 team fouls, 1 and 1 (or out of bounds). After 13 team fouls, 3 to make 2 (or out of bounds).
As Chain mentioned, V started that business, it’s ironic that it has come back to haunt State on many occasions.
MrPlywood
ParticipantAs far as I know, we’re the only school that fires coaches and then lets them coach out the season.
Kim Anderson at Missouri found out late in February that he would not be back, he coached 3 remaining games (as far as I can tell) in the regular season and two games in the tourney. Missouri loves company.
MrPlywood
ParticipantFor god’s sake we actually want to feel like our team is properly coached in both offense AND defense.
^The definition of a delusional fan. 😉
MrPlywood
ParticipantI agree that if Marshall and Arch weren’t sold before, they might be rethinking their situation now. Marshall especially. Come to the ACC Gregg and you’ll have built in schedule strength and have the perfect opportunity to prove yourself against the best of the best.
MrPlywood
ParticipantThe play on the baseline right, at ND’s end? I thought I saw him step on the line then pull it back.
MrPlywood
ParticipantGuh, the infographic about teams “not” winning four games at the tourney, State going 3-1 twice, losing to the Holes both times. Shut up Bilas.
