ParticipantIt will be interesting to see what the suits to uniforms ratio is this year.

ParticipantI’m curious to see how far Pitino’s mentorship will go now that he and Keatts are coaching against each other.

ParticipantTo me, I think Archie would have listened, but ultimately turned us down.
Archie said that the phone had “RUNG” many times and he did not even bother to answer as he was NOT INTERESTED.
I’m leaning toward the “we never had a chance” camp. I dare say the same for Marshall. Those facts were acknowledged, accepted and Yow & Co. moved on.
And now evidently I have to worry about Keatts getting poached before game 1!

ParticipantOh well, onward and upward. I wish Archie the best except against NC State.
Now you’ve done it – BIG10/ACC Challenge schedulers are pencilling in State v Indiana as we speak…

ParticipantI’m just saying that Ply ain’t gotta worry about UNx after next weekend.

ParticipantNew blood in the Final Four – Zags and Ducks. Hope SC gets in for the trifecta, and Big Blue shuts down Baby Blue.

ParticipantSpeculation re: Alford is that he did not want to be the savior at Indiana. That can (and probably does) apply to Archie and State. Combine that with the Archie’s supposed distaste for Sendek’s treatment and the Pack was a hard, if not impossible, sell. Objectively Arch was a perfect fit – a young coach with results, from a coaching family and an alum to boot. He would “get” State. But his negative perceptions (and salary demands?) outweighed State’s positives.

ParticipantTough job.

Participantre: sod – I was gifted some sod last summer (made friends with developers building nearby) and renovated a small area (~200sq.ft.) that had been a barren dustbowl. I hand removed about 3″ of “soil”, tilled the remainder and added to it with a mix more suitable for growing sod. The grass looked great, and seems to be coming back fine. There are a few weeds and bluebells poking through now, but I can stave them off.
Duly inspired, I’m considering replacing larger areas. In the front about 600sq ft, in the back as much as 2000 sq ft. RoundUp is banned here, and hand removing that much old crappy grass/crabgrass/weeds/moss would be a daunting task. What about using a sod cutter? I’ve never used one before but it looks like they cut pretty deep. A neighbor has a nice sized pickup and we have a “tip” nearby where I can dump the old soil/sod for free.
Any other ideas?
I’m slowly expanding my garden areas and would take the opportunity to do that at the same time. The regional sod farms have a nice selection of grasses including drought resistant varieties that require much less water, which is good since we’re on watering restrictions every summer.
Side note: there is a lot of new home construction here, I see sod installed all the time. But, more often than not they don’t do anything to the original soil. At one project they left the construction traffic compacted earth there, didn’t even clean up the leftover crap including glass, metal, plastic you name it and had about 2″ of topsoil (not the proper sod mix) slung on top. Of course it looked good short term, but this spring it’s patchy as hell and it will have to be redone at some point. Lazy. And that was at a house selling for over $1m.

They filled the pool with it.

ParticipantANd money was obviously a factor in the hiring of Keatts. He may work out but we went cheap.
I keep hearing this line of thought but as someone else mentioned, Keatts $2.2million puts his contract in the top 20 as per http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/mens-basketball/coach/
Who on that list did you want, and for how much? Do you think Archie deserves to be paid $3million and put in the top ten?
BTW, look at what Sean is making compared to ORW. AT least that’s what ORW’s “listed” compensation is, I would imagine he gets a pretty penny through “channels”.

ParticipantJim Goodnight was a Stat Prof at NCSU. He actually WROTE, along with others, all the “Base Code” for SAS as a “GRANTED” research project. The Folks that review such said. Good Job Jim (and the other SAS Founder and a couple of others). BUT, this has no value, other than from an academic standpoint. You want to “Keep the CODE?”. OK, whatever THAT is, it is YOURS.
I was aware of that history, I find it fascinating. I dare say it will never happen again. Side note: I knew a man who was a long time resident of Cary and owned a lot of the land that SAS eventually bought and built on. I asked him about it and he said that whenever he needed some cash flow he’d just “go to the deed box” and sell off a parcel.

ParticipantDoug Gottlieb will interview for the OSK job. He’s who I thought Yow had hired back when I first heard “Gottfried”.

ParticipantThese articles imply that Keatts was indeed on Illinois’ list, as was Martin (supposedly a front runner), Marshall and A. Miller among others. Note that Underwood is not on either list, which leads me to believe that Underwood instigated the contact, especially since he’d only been with the Cowboys for 1 season.
