This comment is very telling.
A coach tells the team’s most impactful player that the team’s potential depends on that player maximizing his skill and talent. Yes, very telling indeed.
If only Jamie Dixon were available to help navigate this mystery.

MPParticipantEven though I ‘like’ Gott and have tried to verbally support him in previous threads, I totally agree that (a) the numbers do matter, and (b) season #5 will matter in a large way.
Beyond the data included in this series, I would be interested in expanding the look at coaches/programs to understand coaching tiers better. For example, say there are 15 coaches nationwide that have statistics that establish them as ‘Tier 1’, 30 coaches as ‘Tier 2’, etc. Then look at salaries for the coaches at various tiers and try to decipher:
What teams are getting what they pay for?
Are any teams overpaying for the results they are getting?
If a team finds itself in (say) ‘Tier 2’ and wants to upgrade, what opportunities exist and what may it cost to make that move?
MPParticipant^ you love your RPI… 🙂
But good numbers.
MPParticipantOutstanding effort, outstanding work, outstanding post.
MPParticipantI’m going 9-seed and Kentucky
MPParticipant^ But only if all the State fans have sold their tix to the Duke team! 🙂
MPParticipantOh boy, a classic revisited!
I was thinking earlier this week about Lewis in the framework of NC State’s 2014-2015 season to date. Here are the facts:
1. Tyler Lewis would have been lucky to sniff 5 minutes per game this season. And that may be generous.
2. The only way Lewis could have potentially benefitted our program would have been to redshirt this season. And that wasn’t gonna happen.
I guess if Jamie Dixon were our coach Tyler Lewis would have been NC State’s starting PG this season and been the national POY and the pending 1st pick in this June’s NBA draft. But alas, Gott is our coach so Lewis will have to wait a year on that NBA contract.
This is just too funny and awesome at the same time:
Perhaps McDonald’s should stick to what they do best, serving low quality dogwood to those individuals that can’t read the number next to the caloric category. A Blue Chip guard should be able to defend, create their own shot, consistently score when it counts, lead a team to victory no matter what and distribute the ball to the rest of the team. That well rounded blue chip guard has been missing from my pack happy meal for a long, long time. Tyler, I think you are a high character kid and I hope you find the right team. Really looking forward to next season. Should be interesting. Eat fresh, Anya.
MPParticipant^ Yes, Good for him. I like for everyone to have their horses.
MPParticipantMan, Turner stunk it up that game.
Very interesting. The record would show me as one of RT’s biggest critics. But tonight I found myself thinking of him as a clear Senior leader… Regardless of his scoring.
MPParticipantDaggerX 2
MPParticipant^^ Thanks! I’ve wondered how to do that too.
MPParticipantFrom the Pitt Rivals Thread: “Gottfried is a terrible coach. Give Jamie his roster and I think we’re a 3 or 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament.”
^ Agree.
Ha. Ha. HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa
MPParticipant^ I think there should be a rundown after this season of what ‘tier’ our coaching staff falls in. 2 months ago the talk was what needs to be done NEXT YEAR to justify continuing. Once the ‘tier’ is established the question becomes what would it take to ‘move up’. I think that Gottfried has given us a lot to like. For those launching stones, I’m curious to know their opinion on the next tier and whether the strategy is to get, say, Tom Izzo to walk through the door. I’m kind of over the comments like ‘As long as Gott is our coach…’ with ‘Only losers would…’ without any balls to state what an alternative “should be”.
But then again that’s feeding trolls.
MPParticipantWhat is Anderson’s status for UVA?
MPParticipantSeeing V in Reynolds was even more powerful than the ESPYs speech. Will never forget it.
I was there too! May have run into you on the floor 🙂
MPParticipantNice post! But…
ND is probably better than their RPI ranking
Really?!?
MPParticipantLast year was tough on ACCT semifinal Saturday. I’m feeling a run to the Finals. But I can’t help but think of our previous 3-4 runs to the Finals…
MPParticipantHe will be a tough act for Archie to follow…
in 10-15 years…Or that he wears a light blue shirt on occasion…. 🙂
MPParticipantYep…. He’s GOTT to be IN OVER HIS HEAD….
Well don’t forget all those player transfers….
Or that Butler has a better program than us….
Or the BC game….
Or that some of our fans wear skinny jeans….
Or……………..MPParticipantWe looked like a true veteran team today.
MPParticipantBonus, we win today and still don’t have to play the heinous 10 PM game on Wednesday!
MPParticipantWow! Freeman!
MPParticipantAnya, again with the bad hands…
MPParticipantWe look GOOD!
