Finally got power back on last night around 1900. Boy what a relief. 4 days without power sucks. Generator makes it manageable, but still not something I’d like to do again anytime soon. Yogi, I hope you guys get yours back on again soon.

Well that sure was fun. 4 days later and I’m still without power. I bought a B&S generator on Friday from Lowe’s (6250 W with 8000 W Start up). Boy am I glad I bought that sucker. We live off the beaten path in Moore County and I have a feeling we are going to be one of the last to be connected back to the grid. I was able to keep it on the front porch, mostly protected from the rain, and ran drop cords through the separation between my two front doors. Kept the fridge and freezer powered, ran my espresso machine, temporarily hooked it up to my tankless hot water heater (for hot showers), and best of all, was able to power my modem, tv, and apple tv to stream our game. This situation sucks, but I feel fortunate I’m not under water like most of Lumberton. It looks like Moore county is down to their last 5500 people without power and we just happen to be one of those 5500. Maybe when I get home today we’ll be connected……

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. That looks perfect and I may try to model mine after it. Were the railroad ties pricey? I think i’m going to try in-ground next season and see how that works. If I run into issues (ie. watering/weeds/etc) I may opt for the raised beds. I have a lot of bags of compost/manure that I will probably work into the garden area here soon, along with some hard chip mulch I have from some trees we had cut down. I may also look to get some bags of that Azomite and put it out around the same time.

On a side note, Yogi, how do you keep the deer out of your garden? I know if I left mine out like that, without a fence, the deer would nibble/ruin everything in sight.

Yogi, I didnt see any pictures on either of those links. The only thing that came up was your profile with like 2 pictures. I wonder if I need to “friend” you to see it.

Yea, not sure the best way to send them. Is there another state forum we might use that has private messaging? Or maybe go here (https://filetea.me/default/) and drag and drop photos then paste link on here, that is, if you don’t mind others downloading them. Let me know if this works, if not, I might try to figure out my login info for my spam email account and you can send it there.

    Packpride has private messaging.

Yogi, are you on packpride? If so, my username is the same over there.

No worries. I won’t be doing anything to my gardening area anytime soon. You have given me hope in this sandy soil though. I might research some of the ideas you laid out above and see what i can put together for next season. Seems like it comes down to the prep.

Yogi, great information! Sounds like your garden kicked ass this year. Would you be able to take some pics and send to me your set up? I had 2 small raised beds at my previous house (2 varieties of hops in one and squash, tomatoes, and zucchini in the other) and they seemed to work fairly well considering the lack of prep i put into them. It’s interesting to read your results and how you prepped everything. decisions, decisions. Thanks again for the abundance of info. Are you in the same area as me?

Yogi, I’m right around the Pinehurst/Southern Pines area. Very sandy soil that holds just about 0 moisture. I like the idea of raised beds, but we’ve already set out plans for a garden with a nice fence around it. It’s a space about 80 ft x 40 ft give or take. Feel free to share as much info as you can. I’m new to all of this; I just moved from the Garner area only had less than 1/3 an acre. i now have 6 acres. Looking to put a well in either this fall or early next spring for watering the garden.

any of you guys in the sandhills area? I sure could use some help prepping my garden for next season. We finally decided to do the whole garden thing this year, but it was too late in the year to get anything started. We just moved down here a little over a year ago and I’m used to the red clay of Raleigh, so this whole sandy thing is new to me. I could use some guidance in prepping it for next seasons crops. If anyone is in the area and wants to help, cold (craft, unless you prefer PBR or the likes) beers are on me.

Cow – probably just our gang.

I didn’t fire off an email – I am sure she has enough. The wolfpack’s biggest challenge when it comes to me is apathy. In general, I am watching less sports than ever. I didn’t watch much of UNC or Duke games when we played them this year. I watches several of our games this year but haven’t set foot in the RBC in several years – can’t say I missed it.

If Yow’s Leak reference isn’t genuine – shame on the jerk that posted it. But same on me for believing it… As if we haven’t been fooled enough in the last 2 years.

Been a lot frustration here lately – from this to bathroom stuff to president Trump or Shrillary – take your pick.

At times I feel like God is screaming at me, telling me to focus on that is paramount. In general, the message has been heard, but like Josh Hamilton, when I relapse, I relapse hard.

choppack1, if you’re calling me a jerk cause you think I added a paragraph in there about Leak, then so be it. Would a screenshot of my email account with the email from Debbie opened up be enough to suit your fancy? I’m a diehard pack fan just like the rest of this crowd. I only posted my email to show that she must have amended her original response. Whether the response I received was the original, I do not know. I do know that the response I posted was genuinely from Deb.

This was the response I received yesterday.

    All,

This is a group response because the answer is the same to each request for feedback regarding the amended NOA recently received at Chapel Hill.

As you know, the process has not yet been completed and will likely take another 4-6 months. At some time during that period, the NCAA will identify the sanctions for the violations. It seems counterproductive to assume what those will be, even though the amended NOA content is considerably different than the original NOA. We will wait to learn how this is ultimately managed before drawing any final conclusions.

Please remember that the NCAA has been fair to us as they dealt with the Eric Leak issue, as we disassociated him from our program and trespassed him from campus, in an effort to protect our teams and athletes. I share that as an example because they could have adopted a different approach that would have been more punitive. But they saw us make all the appropriate choices and acknowledged our efforts by deeming the violations as secondary. So, I am appreciative that when they have worked directly with us, they have done so collaboratively.

We will continue to be diligent to protect against any systemic violations of NCAA rules. Maintaining our integrity matters at NC State and we will not take short cuts in order to win games.

In the spirit of the Pack,

    Debbie

what’s the word CD? I know you have some insider views on the situation in MBB. I’m interested to see if we really are desperate and reaching or if it just appears this way to us outsiders.

damnit CD. ha! you have a way with words that keeps me searching for answers! Guess I’ll have to keep reading to see if I can find out what’s going on. Cliff’s Notes would be much easier.

packalum44 – I suggest you check out this page (http://packinsider.com/2015/09/11/mark-gottfried-is-restoring-the-pack/)

Hard to argue with facts. I was skeptical about the Gott hire at first, but it’s hard to look at those facts and still say he hasn’t done a spectacular job with NCSU Basketball. He’s definitely rejuvenated basketball in Raleigh. It’s been a long time since I was this excited about STATE basketball and it appears it’s only going to get better. Next step, add Bam!

The cons are that they’ve “quit once,” that they may have some academic issues to make up in that off year, that they’re older (see Lacey), and that you invest in them a year before you get them on the court.

I kinda get what you’re saying here Rye, but in this case, I don’t consider Dorn to be any of these. I believe what you have here is a kid who was overlooked by most major programs while in HS. He took a shot with UNCC, succeeded, and caught the attention of some major programs. As a kid, he saw the opportunity to come to NCSU, play on a larger national scale (i.e. more eyes watching his game), and decided it was a great opportunity for him. Hell, I doubt many of us know his academic background. He might have an interest in mechanical engineering and saw what STATE has to offer. Not likely, but could be the case for some.

I get that some kids who transfer can be seen as “quitting” (bubbleguts), but I think in the case of some transfers, like Lacey and BSW, they saw the opportunity the ACC has on their future stock. I mean, seriously, who watches Alabama or LSU basketball? Lacey’s name was mentioned a ton based on his performance at NCSU. Yeah, I get it. He was old, but if it weren’t for Gott and staffs trained eyes, Lacey would most likely still be playing on a bad Alabama team. Instead, he’s chasing his dream, whether now was the right time for him or not, he made that decision. An opportunity presented to him by his performances after transferring and attention he received by playing for a pretty good ACC team.

I don’t recall that many NCSU transfers that had academic issues. This might not be saying much as my memory sucks. I’m not sure why a program (well except for #UNCheat) would bring in a transfer with academic issues, but I’m sure it happens.

I’m not sure that investing in them for a year before they play is such a bad thing. I think this can allow said player to adjust to the new coaches/game style while meshing with players on the current roster. If they are great players, it would also give a nice body to practice against. I do get what you’re saying though. It can suck if you invest a year in the kid and he doesn’t fit well with the team.

I guess the point, if any, that I’m trying to make is that in today’s game of college basketball, I think the pros of a transfer far outweigh the cons. Without the valuable addition of transfers, I think the state of STATE basketball would be in really rough shape. Gott often goes for home runs with respect to top dog recruits. I’m glad he sees our program as an elite one with chances to land these guys. However, this can often backfire and we end up ending a season with players graduating, leaving early, or transferring, without a scholarship player to replace them. So then begins the hunt for some transfers. /rant

Is it 7:30 yet? This day is just creeping along. Leaving work around 5, grabbing a pint at Southern Pines Brewing Co (next door to my office), then making the trek back to good ol Garner for the tip-off! I may have to stop and pick up a few cold ones on the way home…or maybe I’ll i just stick to some liquor. I just hope we have the juju going and the Pack pull off the win.

Alpha, glad to see you’re still brewing. I’m in the process of converting my brewery to all electric (20 gallon). Also in the process of leaving your area to move down closer to work (Pinehurst area). If you haven’t tried and of the beer from the aforementioned brewery, you definitely should. Their brewmaster sure as hell knows his sh*t. Great group of guys as well (former 3rd group guys).

    -Cheers!

eas, I couldn’t have said it better. I thought the same thing pretty much the entire game last night, even went as far as mentioning that same sentiment to my wife. Until we have a true ACC caliber point guard, learn how to play defense, and quit having games where we can’t make wide open lay ups….we are going to be a bubble team at best.

This team has shown a lot of promise in several games, but their inconsistencies in the others is mind boggling. How we go on 18-0 runs and then go cold for 10+ minutes shooting 0-12+ is unbelievable. I hope something clicks with this team and we finish strong, but the #WTNY syndrome is already beginning to set in. It’s all just very frustrating. oh well….

Fewest Penalty Yards Per Game: 42.33 (4, 2)

This seems strange to me. How can we be 4th in ACC when there’s only one better nationally? Is that a mistype? Should it have been 4, 12?

WV Wolf – I fixed the typo, thanks
