Yes, Gott pulls another rabbit out of his recruiting hat. But us lunatic fringe, bunker buddies want to know whether Gott can coach these kids. A large part of that is going to be getting all these 4 and 5 stars to buy in. And slipping laxatives in Beejay’s burgers.
The real test begins now. Now that there’s no UNX championship for the NCAA and ESPN to faun over. Will the NCAA move quickly? Will the punishment be as severe as many believe it should be or will UNX skate with a few regular season wins vacated and a 9-game suspension for ORW? At this point, I highly doubt we’ll see a punishment that fits the crime. But tonight was a start.
Yea I had the same issue, Ply. A friend speculates that he’s so smug bc the NCAA has framed the violations as pertaining to the University, not the athletics program. But I find that argument very flimsy. Seems like a slippery slope . . . .
Apparently, Ol Roy doesn’t anticipate any sanctions for men’s bball. Scoot on over to the ESPN front page.
Wulfpack, if there was a “like” button, I would hit it. Cat leaving is understandable and it was foreseeable. Can’t fault him, especially with DSJ and Dorn (who can apparently play both guard positions) coming in next season. What grinds my gears, and I think most of the proletariat, is the “unexpected” “surprised” transfers and draft declarations. NC State basketball may indeed be cursed. Shouldn’t have run V off.

CJ’s is a sad story. I mean, the whole nation, the sports media, was up his ass, esp after we beat Dook and he help save/protect the disabled kid when the students stormed the court. Really, if he (and Lo) had stayed another year, developed his shot/game, he could be James McAdoo, an NBA champion, riding the coattails of those superior to him.
If there are 2 NBA ballers on this squad I’ll eat my hat. Abu is nowhere close to NBA material. Not shot, no handle, short, no chance.

And I liked Gott after the first year. Duh. What wasn’t there to LOVE, even? But after that second year, the signs were there. That was, on paper, a Sweet 16 team, at the very least. To flame out the way they did and to hear there were issues in the locker room, with egos etc . . . Coach has to handle that ish. You don’t see that happening with Coach Rat or Good Ol’ Roy (damn them). Since then, we’ve had prima donnas, all the way.
I was one of those too young to understand what HSSS meant until I asked on here. I was in HS when Julius led us to the Sweet 16. But I will say, there seems to be a lot of bashing of so-called “pessimists” and “Gott-haters” on here. Yet here we are, on March 24, 2016, in the year of our Lord, and we are experiencing the mass exodus that has become all too familiar under the current regime. Don’t get me wrong; I was thrilled to have gone to the Sweet 16 in Gott’s first year. Even more thrilled to have made it last year. What idiot would not have been? But it’s hard to ignore the reality of what you see unfolding. “Surprise” defections. UGLY seasons. How can the one follow the other? A trip to the Sweet 16 should raise your program’s attractiveness, not result in two transfers the following off-season and two (for now) the next. You can’t tell me a DSJ isn’t thinking to himself, “why did I sign with them again?”
We are our record. We are who we are. The next move is to figure out who we’re gonna be.

I will admit it was a valiant effort, I just can’t really get up for moral victories. As a fan, 2-10 hurts.

Yea, we haven’t defended the three that well. Or rather, Dook is just really good at spreading our defense and finding the open man. Hmmm… looks like Gott made some adjustments to counter Rat’s adjustments.

Watching Cuse dismantle ND like that makes me wonder… If they can do that in a “down” year with all the self-imposed sanctions and Coah Boeheim’s suspension… They had to take a hit in the recruiting department, right?

Look, I love NCSU. Bball is my favorite sport. But I can’t take the heart ache anymore this year. Sorry if it comes off as negative. But it’s literally killing me. I mean, be bad, go .500, but 1-6? Lord, that’s a helluva 180. So I come here to vent. But perhaps I went too far.

Lol AliasTroll, I never root “against,” I just don’t get my hopes up/have expectations (at least this year). If it’s truly a rebuilding year (as many have claimed), then that has to be the default for most. I have never rooted against State (that’s laughable).
Lol I have perspective, I’m just a realist. I told a buddy after the WF loss that we could potentially start 0-7. I was actually kinda upset we beat Pitt. I love State too much to be happy about 1-5 in the ACC, no matter how many HOF coaches are in it. But mostly I’m disappointed/heartbroken at the absolutely skydive we’ve taken one season removed from the S16. And yea we had a few players leave, but we still returned guys who can’t hit 3 ft from the basket, we have no defense, we give up leads, our offense is nonexistent, and we don’t make free throws. So it’s just too sad to watch. And it’s all together, ugly basketball.
