WolfWiz11Participant
Really excited for Buckets, and I like how his teammates congratulated him afterwards. Maybe camaraderie will keep him here? Yow needs to send some of the finest University Towers girls to woo young Buckets into staying.
WolfWiz11ParticipantGod, I hope none of our guys transfers. As bad as they can be at times, we can’t afford to start all over again, teaching guys the fundamentals (since none of our recruits seem to have ’em).
Launch a “One more year, Buckets” campaign?
WolfWiz11ParticipantFreeman playing well tonight. Silver linings . . .
WolfWiz11ParticipantI’ve seen middle schoolers play better.
WolfWiz11ParticipantWTF KYLE WASHINGTON
WolfWiz11ParticipantNah, I’m diehard. I won’t give up on the Lakers or the Pack. I will never be a fair weather fan.
WolfWiz11ParticipantHi, I’m a recent grad (2011) but I tend to be a realist and basketball is my favorite sport. I’m also a Lakers fan if that gives you any other insight. I saw a glass half full back in the fall, I thought the Central loss would be the low point. After watching us piss away games where we’ve been up 10 points with like 4 mins to go, I’m sort of going through the motions. The future doesn’t bode too well assuming TJ leaves, which at this point, I’m thinking the losing will drive him to the NBA. I understand Gott will have more of his own recruits and I was absolutely excited about Abu and the Martin twins, but I’m starting to lose faith in Gott as a coach. So many of the little things that this team lacks can be coached.

I’d be more worried about the paranoia our team would have about the refs /league/country/taliban/etc… all being out to get them (personally), because they decided to play for state.
Agreed, FergusWolf, I do believe ACC officiating is suspect at best, but at the same time I tire of hearing the fans complain about it. The best teams don’t worry about officiating and I want NCSU to be considered amongst the best, instead of being looked down on as the “red-headed stepbrother.” The bottom line is, a lot of times we are RIGHT there, and we make a mistake that throws the game away. I believe we can win if we play smart and minimize/negate those mistakes. Defend without fouling, and I like someone’s earlier point of playing a press every now and then; make your free throws; no careless passes; and if possible, make a few three pointers (40% or higher would be nice for just a day). And please, we absolutely cannot go on a scoring drought to start a half, we need Lewis and Barber to minimize the turnovers, get Warren going early, and move without the ball so that they can get other guys involved.
WolfWiz11ParticipantI remember a post a few weeks ago where the poster made a good point. What if the fellas are reading these forums? What if they saw the lack of faith people have in them? Could that be contributing to their lack of confidence on the court?
With that in mind, I have absolute complete confidence in our guys. We can get it done; shoot, we damn near beat Cuse, and I think you could make the argument that ‘Cuse wasn’t completely exposed until its loss at BC or its mere 2-pt victory at MD. We have the talent and we have the coach who gives us the best chance at victory since maybe even before Sendek. All we GOTT to do is play smart, tough, and efficient basketball for 40 minutes.
#GoPack #NeverGiveUp
WolfWiz11ParticipantMeh, didn’t miss the Sendek years; was just too young to be phased by em. But in all seriousness, just win the dagum ACCT and we wouldn’t have to have this discussion 🙂
WolfWiz11ParticipantCat is a mercurial player. I was really pissed at him, but I just feel bad for the kid after the Cuse game; I mean just imagine him walking thru the Free Expression Tunnel or eating dinner at Case and maybe getting a dirty look here and there from a fan. But honestly, I think he and the team will be better for the adversity.
Last year we had guys like Zo and Calvin, who, bless them, didn’t want to be around long enough to develop; they just craved enough short-term national attention to make the jump to the pros. And while I applaud their courage, I don’t know if it was the best move for them (even with this years’ deep draft, but that’s another discussion).
What we have this year is a project. Young, inexperienced guys who are learning thru mistakes and adversity, really experiencing what it means to be a student-athlete. Some real 4-year guys (with the exception of Warren). My hope is that we come out swinging next year with guys like Washington, Anya, Turner and Cat improving their games, getting their weight under control, increasing their bball IQs. In essence, the renaissance we experienced in Gott’s first year.
WolfWiz11ParticipantI think we could easily go 4-1 if we play like we did the whole game against Syracuse or in the first halves of our games against Pitt and Mizzou. The one loss I see is to UNX, but perhaps our boys will be a little pissed about all the attention showered on the two Blues and that will motivate them to steal that one.
I’m not as good with the stats i.e. BPI, RPI, SOS etc. but I’m a little hesitant to say that 4-1 or 3-2 and then 2 ACCT wins gets us in the dance–I feel like it really depends on who those 2 tourney wins are against. We have no good wins and a few bad losses; whereas UNX had losses to UAB, Belmont and UVA but wins over MSU, Kentucky, and Louisville and was STILL arguably on the bubble last night (I think it’s safe to say the Dook win put them in).
Guys, I really think we’ve GOTT to win the ACCT to sway the selection committee. Make it so!
WolfWiz11ParticipantYou’re actually mostly right; I was on the road to and from Fayetteville and only got inside in time to see the last 7 seconds and that play by Cat. My post did sound a bit harsh; that’s really what went through my mind at the time. I had nightmares last night just playing that over and over in my head. So I will backtrack and say this: yes, he made a decision and it was a freshman one; the Syracuse defense was swarming and that probably would have made even a grown 24-year old like myself wet the front of my pants (those guys have the limbs of tarantulas). So he threw an ill-advised pass and that’s understandable. Hindsight is 20/20. And the what ifs are killing me b/c they would have HAD to foul. And they had some to give. Just stinks to be that close.
WolfWiz11ParticipantCat holds the ball for a few seconds, gets fouled, sinks a couple free throws, we win. Poor kid. Made a really boneheaded pass, one that really shows his low basketball IQ at this point. That’s just coaching and I can’t really lay it on Gott; that’s something Cat should have learned in HS or on the AAU circuit.
WolfWiz11ParticipantAhhh no harm, no foul. I just remember being so excited thinking we were gonna get the come-from-behind win. I do think we are due for an upset, bringing your every elation begetting an equal and opposite frustration saying to fruition. Hoping our boys rise to the occasion, with the national spotlight surrounding Boeheim and Cuse.
WolfWiz11ParticipantThe last time we played Cuse was 12/17/11, not 12/17/12 (not that it matters much, I was just confused b/c I remembered watching that game).
WolfWiz11ParticipantOk Cat, no more three pointers, go home, you’re drunk.
WolfWiz11ParticipantTime for the refs to work their “magic”?
WolfWiz11ParticipantThis is the part of the season where the games we let slip away (Mizzou, Pitt) will really start to hurt us. Would have been nice to have those W’s on our resume . . . .
WolfWiz11Participantcame awfully close to fouling the three, i just knew lewis would jump into him, good job not doing so. WOLF!
WolfWiz11Participantomg, i was trying that reverse psychobabble, wtf MAKE IT
WolfWiz11ParticipantMiss it, BSW!
WolfWiz11Participant*vandy, damn autocorrect
WolfWiz11Participant`wow, can’t even seal the game at the line. vandy with the block tho . . . .
WolfWiz11ParticipantWHAT WAS THAT, LIKE 4 OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS!??!?! FML
