WolfWiz11Participant
He was WIDE open. Good timeout, I hate when Gott waits to call TO. Now is the perfect time before Louisville really gets going and he’s gotta be upset about that last defensive breakdown.
WolfWiz11ParticipantCan someone explain to me what Gott’s “off the court stuff” is? I gather he got divorced and bought a love nest? Where are y’all reading that, geez, I try to follow all the team news; never heard about that one.
WolfWiz11ParticipantCaleb Martin taking that 3 and Lacey missing that wide open layup (yes there was a defender there, but he had a GREAT look at the basket) were just devastating. Can’t blame a flagrant (that was clearly a flop) when you’re pooping the bed like that. And that happens time and time again with this team. Interested to read Gott’s post game comments tomorrow.
But yea, we ain’t beating Louisville or UNX. Both have higher bball IQs and better coaches. Gott’s good, but he is not great. Way I see it, this team could easily have 5-6 more wins (both UVA games, UNX, Miami, ND, Clemson, and Wake). Imagine that.
WolfWiz11ParticipantIs UVA that good defensively that we can’t come back from 5 down when they aren’t hitting? Were the guys too tired out from all the defending they had to do tonight?
WolfWiz11ParticipantOur team is the Johnny Football of CBB. Every game it’s, “we have to come out and play 40 minutes,” “we have to play team basketball,” “we’ve gotta do a better job of defending.” How about stop effing up at the worst possible moments?
WolfWiz11ParticipantTried to get fancy when he didn’t have to. I can’t with this team.
WolfWiz11ParticipantHe was wide open. Lmao.
WolfWiz11ParticipantI’ve seen enough. I don’t know why I went back on my decision to not watch anymore State games after the ND debacle. But come one, we should be up right now and then Martin takes that God AWFUL three?
WolfWiz11ParticipantLolololol
WolfWiz11ParticipantCome on Anya, did you really not see that coming??!?
WolfWiz11ParticipantOur inability to score inside is one of the main reasons we lose games. We’ve been down by 5 points and now 3 for the last 2 and a half minutes and have had PLENTY of chances.
WolfWiz11ParticipantWHY DIDN’T LACEY GRAB THAT BALL INSTEAD OF TRYING TO TAP IT OUT???
WolfWiz11ParticipantTHE BALL DON’T LIE!
WolfWiz11ParticipantWow, that’s bs. What a FLOP.
WolfWiz11Participant5 points feels like 15 against this UVA defense.
WolfWiz11ParticipantI’m still mad at how Anya missed that one when he got the offensive board a couple minutes ago. That’s how you lose games, missing from 2 feet.
WolfWiz11ParticipantI question whether they go all out for 40 minutes. Unless their 40 minutes is like 20 Earth minutes. In which case, yea, I agree with you.
WolfWiz11ParticipantI feel like Gottfried has learned the hard way that not every PG is Lorenzo Brown. Under Lowe, Brown was just ordinary and the offense was just ordinary–that was coaching. Under Gott, Brown and the offense were firing on all cylinders. Someone with Zo’s length and court vision is rare. Perhaps Gottfried took that for granted and just figured, “Hey, I can pop a Tyler Lewis or a Cat in there and they’ll be just as great.” Nope. Also, I agree with teams needing certain personnel. One glaring absence is a Richard Howell in my mind, a player (this year, a BIG) who is thirsty for opportunity, who leads by example. I was at State when Howell started in the program; went to a couple of his early games where he wasn’t much of an impact except in garbage time. Over the next year or two, man, he just blossomed. And he became the silent leader that our collection of guys–Zo, CJ, and Wood–really needed out there.
Those are the two key things I believe we’re missing. But we have the pieces there. Cat has come on as of late; unfortunately, the rest of the team hasn’t. Then there’s your Washingtons, Abus, and Anyas–any one of these guys could step up and really become a leader. Another issue is, I don’t really see Gott as a leader, so how can his team rally?
WolfWiz11ParticipantReally pleasantly surprised with Cat’s recent surge. I hope he keeps it up and proves all the doubters wrong (including me). That just goes to prove we were slightly right, though; we weren’t getting the best version of him before. It seems like his emergence has coincided with the rest of the team’s retreat. I hope there are no jealousy issues in that locker room, I can’t imagine why there would be. The rest of the guys have to understand that Cat has the ability to make all of them better IF they play smart and play together.
WolfWiz11ParticipantDidn’t watch the game, but why don’t Washington and Freeman attack the rim more? That’s what they’re built for, get it on the wing, drive it in, make the shot, get fouled, or dish it down low. Let Abu or Anya handle the post-ups. Every now and then Kyle can take a midrange jumper or a three. What are they afraid of, handling the ball? In particular, Freeman seems like a nice, shy kid, but this is basketball, son. He needs to get ferocious about attacking the rim; none of that humble Rich Howell stuff unless you actually PLAY like Howell.
But seriously, 2 points Kyle Washington? We need more from he and Anya as sophomores, they were totally absent last night. Barring a major streak the rest of the season and through the ACCT, we are not making the NCAAT. These boys need to play for pride now.
WolfWiz11ParticipantI think it’s safe to say the fellas have given up on this season. The scary thing is, they may have also given up on Coach Gott. The lack of response/effort/decision-making is glaring. 15 points TOTAL from Washington, Abu, Anya, and Freeman??? And only Freeman had 8 rebounds? Turner, 3 for 13, after all the horrible games he’s had lately?
Sigh. At least I haven’t been watching the games, not since ND. I feel like a quitter, but it’s less stressful this way.
WolfWiz11ParticipantI really admire those of you who are still optimistic about this season. Wish I shared that attitude. After Sunday’s debacle I decided to not watch another game this season, it’s bad for my mental state. Thankfully, I was on my way back from Maryland last night, so I didn’t get to watch. However, as I pulled into NC, I caught a little bit on the radio . . . I think what little light in me died once I heard the score.
By all means, I don’t think a new coach is the right move. But Gott and Co. need to really coach/recruit their asses off.
WolfWiz11ParticipantAnd please stop with the “sorry fans” crap. It will not be tolerated on this site.
Thank you. Calling people “sorry fans” is such a cheap shot. The only thing most people on this site are guilty of is caring too much about this school/team that we have to call it how we see it. Doesn’t mean we don’t believe in the team/coach. Don’t get me wrong; there are some who do get a bit nasty, but I think they are few and far in between. After a demoralizing loss like last night, right on the heels of a close one in Miami and the squeaker against the Holes, fans are a bit frustrated. And it’s exactly because we KNOW what this team is capable of.
WolfWiz11ParticipantWe were 9-12 on free throws tonight. Cody and Caleb 4-4. I would still take those chances over a turnover.
WolfWiz11ParticipantWe were up two with 16.5 to play. That’s when the pass occurred. The risks outweigh the reward there. Just inbound the dang ball, make your free throws, and take a 4 point lead. That’s the right play. .
