Agreed on KW. The biggest thing is getting more offensive consistency and rebounding from our bigs. One of them–Abu, Anya, or Freeman–needs to become a consistent 16 and 10 guy. Also would love to have a guy with a decent midrange game a la Buckets. I think Lacey can develop those moves so he doesn’t have to rely on the step back as much.
WolfWiz11ParticipantYou gotta feel for Sean Miller and Mark Few. I’m just gonna go ahead and pencil in Zona and the Zags for the Elite 8 next year.
WolfWiz11ParticipantIowa State ruined me. It’s really weird; my SFN bracket was my best one a few days ago (100%ile), but now it’s not. Guess I shouldn’t have used my upset bracket 😀
WolfWiz11ParticipantWhile we are all depressed at the loss, I think we can see movement in the right direction and feel like our program is in good hands, and there is reason for optimism.
We wouldn’t be true fans if were weren’t depressed at our team losing. I’m sure Utah, Oklahoma, WVU, UNX, Xavier . . . you get the point.
WOLF!
WolfWiz11ParticipantHey guys. Can we all just calm down? Quit tearing each other to shreds like we were actually out on that court.
After a night’s sleep, I’ve decided that this was the best opportunity we’ve had at an Elite Eight, at least in my lifetime (born in ’89). So, from that perspective, it was a tough loss. OTOH, I am very proud of the team, just like the rest of you. After that drubbing by Cincy, I could only dream about getting to the Sweet 16, let alone knocking off both the 9 seed and the 1 seed to get there.
But there’s no denying that we had a great opportunity. Now it’s time to relax for a little bit, regroup, and hopefully put ourselves in the position to finally make an Elite Eight next year. Don’t feed fire to the “lunatic fringe” moniker.
WolfWiz11ParticipantDefinitely the best chance we had at a final four. And we CREATED that opportunity by knocking off Nova. So it really hurts from that perspective. Its never gonna be this easy, at least not for a long while.
WolfWiz11ParticipantDo we get a preseason ranking? Tbh, I don’t want one. We don’t handle positive press well and I like being the underdog.
WolfWiz11Participant29 years. I just want an Elite 8. *Cries in corner*
WolfWiz11ParticipantHe’s unleashed The Kraken! (KW)
WolfWiz11ParticipantGotta stop jacking up the jumpers. Can’t let them dictate the offense that has worked for us in this tourney.
WolfWiz11ParticipantGood thing Kentucky’s not playing hard . . . .
WolfWiz11ParticipantI’m thrilled with a Sweet 16 appearance solely b/c we were predicted 10th in the ACC and we lost TJ Warren. Not a knock on our guys, there were just a lot of unknowns coming into this year. However, sitting here and looking at the rest of the East Region, I’ve got to think we have a legitimate shot at a Final Four. So I am being selfish in my heart of hearts because I really want us to advance even further. BUT I am proud as hell of what we’ve accomplished this year. And I think most are as even the tone on these forums has changed. I mean, think back to that Clemson loss. Who saw THIS coming?
WolfWiz11Participant*Of course, that’s if we don’t win it all this year 😀
WolfWiz11ParticipantI think Cat’s best chance at taking his game to the NBA is by staying all four years. I loved Zo and Leslie, but imagine what might have happened if they stayed for their senior years? With Warren firing on ALL cylinders and the guard tandem of Lewis and Cat (he may have been improved with more offensive threats to pass to), we may have made the Sweet 16. And you can argue that the draft class with Wiggins and Parker was stacked, but neither Kansas nor Duke did exceptionally well in those tourneys if I remember and a deep run in the NCAA can definitely help draft stock. I think Cat needs his junior year to let us know that Cat 2.0 is here to stay and then his senior year to take us to the mountain top. Final Four or NC.
WolfWiz11ParticipantBeat Louisville and then either Oklahoma or Sparty
I’m down with two more wins and I believe this team can definitely deliver. I’m actually more confident going into this Louisville matchup than I was with the Nova one.
WolfWiz11Participanthardly a MENTION of NC State
Edit: Michael and Jemele named Cat as one of their five figures in sports who are doing too much due to his comment about Barry. Figures.
WolfWiz11ParticipantI’m sorry, I’ve listened to both the First Take and His and Hers podcasts from today and there was hardly a MENTION of NC State. It was always, “we know what happened to Villanova,” or “I’m sticking with Michigan St.” Can we get some props? Our run is not that unlikely, given the totality of the past four seasons and all the ups and downs. When we are on our game, we CAN be great. When is the national media gonna recognize at least the potential we have? Geez. This time in 2012, everyone was fawning over us. I guess I do like being the underdog, and I think our players are more comfortable in that role, but still. It’s a little frustrating to have your talent downplayed every year.
WolfWiz11ParticipantApparently Darius Atkins called out the rest of his UVA teammates for not showing up Sunday? That’s a damn shame.
WolfWiz11ParticipantWell, we all know Bilas can eat a…
We can beat L’ville (again). I think this time out, we need to focus on shutting down or neutralizing Quinn Snyder and Harrell. Snyder’s been playing well as of late, but he’s still a freshman, right? Make him turn the ball over and take contested shots. And do whatever we can to slow down Harrell and Rozier. The X-factor for us would be Ralston. If he has a good night shooting, we continue playing excellent defense, and the rest of the guys play like they did against Nova, we’ll be playing on Sunday.
WolfWiz11ParticipantLet’s get it on
WolfWiz11ParticipantI thought I’d rather play L’ville. Now, I’m not sure about that. Then again, if UNI were to mount a comeback, I would be worried about playing them. So I don’t know what to think now. Bottom line, we just gotta keep winnin’.
WolfWiz11ParticipantWhat I love about this win: 1) Ralston sticking with it despite not scoring the ball; and 2) Lennard contributing offensively. Frenchie took a BIG step tonight. Proud of em all. Abu, Dez, Cat, even Caleb for knocking down that 3.
WolfWiz11ParticipantHonestly, sports would be no fun if I was full of hope and confidence for an entire 40 minutes. Imagine being a Kentucky fan this year. Sure, your team will probably win it all, because they win everything. But how boring must it be at times? The rollercoaster makes it special. Couldn’t care less if Kentucky went undefeated, watching their games is a drag; they’re putting a damn NBA team on the court every game. I’ll take my Cardiac Pack and vent and cheer on the boards for 40 minutes.
WolfWiz11ParticipantAoD, I rescind all my previous comments about you.
Somebody get KH a doughnut, let that boy eat!
WolfWiz11ParticipantYea Lacey, even though Gott call TO, you’re still missing threes
