MikeParticipant
OK, just my two cents – NO WAY he quits or packs it in.
What would an NBA scout say to this? IF he is set to be picked 4 or 5, what kind of team is he going to? An 82 game schedule plus preseason 10+ games, where they might win 25 of them. Do I want that on my team? Not a chance!
If anything, he needs to elevate his game (his TEAM game) to show the scouts what he is capable of. No more 1 on 5, no more dribbling through double and triple teams. No more forced drives or bad jump shots. And certainly learning to play D.
One of the big differences between college and the “league” is D. Everyone is good in the league and everyone can score. While the NBA has had a rep for years as a no D league, actually the D is very good and very tough. Defense will be the catalyst if DSJ has a successful pro career.
MikeParticipantLavelle Moton is a fantastic coach! I think it would be a major upgrade. He does not take any mess, he teaches the game, and he reaches the kids. Someone will hire him away soon and be very happy.
MikeParticipantDSJ scores 31 and Mav has a nice game, everyone else looked like imposters. Why?
The strength should have been our O – and forgive me for saying this – but the O stands around while DSJ dribbles around the perimeter showing everyone how well he can dribble between his legs and behind his back, how well he can dribble through double and triple teams (not well) and basically waits for him to force up a bad shot.
When DSJ lets the offense flow and come to him, he is very very good. When he forces jumpers and continues to dribble into traffic, he is ordinary. Triple double was the worst thing that could happen to him and this team – like hitting a HR your first at-bat and then swinging for the fence the rest of the year.
Is DSJ a talent? Certainly! But he also has to learn how to play the game using his head and not just his talent. All 3 games since triple/double have been DSJ trying to do it all himself and that is not going to cut it in this league.
MikeParticipantTo chime in on the DSJ/Lo Brown argument. No doubt DSJ is a better talent. I think the point though is who would do a better job running the team.
Here is the issue with DSJ, and we saw it Sunday. Sometimes he forces the issue and the results are bad. When he lets the gaem come to him, he is very effective.
I keep hearing triple double. Yes, he had the 2nd triple double in Pack history, fantastic! Go back and compare the halves – his first half was rather pedestrian but the 2nd half was outstanding. What was the difference? First half, he forced several, none of which went in. He was trying to create too much out of nothing with his passing and drives (or just dribbling too much into traffic). The 2nd half was more flow and letting the game happen. Yes we had a big lead at half, but his numbers did not really accumulate until the 2nd half.
Great talent, but he needs to learn this is not HS and not AAU. When he does play within the framework, he is fantastic. When he goes rogue, he looks like a freshman PG.
Did DSJ cost us the game at UNX? No, everyone was awful. But early on, he tried to do too much, maybe from reading his own triple double hype, and forced shots, turned the ball over, and never got into the framework of the offense. Your PG sets the tone, and early on, he set the tone for a bad day. 51 points, no, but enough that we got in a hole (no un intended) and could never dig out.
MikeParticipantAdmittedly I was one saying DD was making progress up until the EZU game, and then I thought we had regressed and time for change. I had hope with Clemson that EZU was an anomaly and their “bowl” game so they caught us off guard. Now, not so much.
Kitchings – I like Kitchings, but to go with an unproven assistant……..isnt that what everyone was complaining about with DD? No big time D-1 experience as a head coach and we need to find someone with a proven D-1 record, not a hope and a prayer that he will learn on the job.
Poor play calling (again) – is that DD controlling the reins? Or does Drink have no more creativity than last year. Looks a lot like the same play book to me.
MikeParticipantI had been a supporter and willing to give time. Well…….that clock is ticking fast and unless something changes, he lost me today. I thought we were outcoached and outprepared for and no excuse.
New OC, but still no imagination, same old predictable plays. Their D line dominated our O line. Clock management on last drive – 1st down with 24 seconds left, clock stops to set the chains and we did not snap again until 17 seconds left, unexcusable. New QB – maybe but still on the coaches to teach better management. And the last completion, fighting for a couple extra yards while time expires. Catch the ball, get on the ground, get to the line and spike it, roll out the FG team.
MikeParticipantWhat a joke – only because he was busted and called out on it.
The funny thing is he said “was helping out a friend who needed a job”. I am all for helping friends who need a job but how was he helping his friend with a volunteer position?
The whole place over there stinks and actually kudos to Folt for stepping in.
MikeParticipantPrediction.. 5-7 or 6-6. This talk of two quarterbacks rotating scares the hell out of me. You know the saying.
As for UN*, I just don’t think Mitch T. has the balls to be the #1 guy for the entire season. Teams will load the box on them and we will see if he has it.
I hate to say it but I think Mitch is better than Marquise and I fear him more. Kid can throw the ball really well and teams will not be able to stack the box.
Enough of them- this will be a tough year and while we have great backs, especially with the addition of Frasier, I am still concerned about a young O-line. Some have experience but one key to O-line play is cohesiveness and playing together. Cach Ledford is very good but cant expect miracles overnight. I dont care how good your RB’s are, if the blockers are not there Adrian Peterson, Gale Sayers, and Barry Sanders would struggle.
MikeParticipantThe ID law is discriminatory (or so they say) because it lessens the early voting period, eliminates a Sunday vote and a few other things. Please show me in the constitution where it says early voting and Sundays shall be mandatory.
There is still early voting – just not as long. But Rev Barber says people cant get out to vote because the early voting time is reduced. Go back to the old days when voting DAY was voting day and have only one day.
MikeParticipantThe ordinance was passed to protect the rights of a very very small minority. What about the rights of 99.7% of the population to use the rest room or locker room of their sex? What about their RIGHTS to privacy?
And once again I will state it is the T’s that the law is designed to protect. It is designed to protect the woman from a man blatantly walking into a ladies locker room and watching, or walking around naked and exposing. The ordinance as written in CLT would allow a man to do so with no legal ramifications.
MikeParticipantNo, you can’t stop a perv from going into a women’s restroom and exposing himself, BUT today it is against the law, which in and of itself is a sort of protection from it happening. What you are wanting makes that legal and takes away all protections and therein lies “the rub”.
Nothing about the Charlotte ordinance made it legal to expose yourself to someone in a bathroom, and nothing about HB2 prevents it.
Not the case – in a locker room you can walk around naked all you want. And a male in a female locker room would have every right to do so without HB2.
MikeParticipantTo someone’s point that we may have all shared a bathroom and no harm has come from it – so be it, we probably have. BUT, this does not concern legitimate people using the restroom.
This bill PREVENTS a guy from claiming to be a woman going into the woman’s restroom or more importantly the locker room and parading around women and especially young girls. With the way the Charlotte ordinance was worded, any guy could go into a woman’s facility with no consequences of law.
Yes there are already laws on the books to prevent photographing, videoing etc in a public place but the Charlotte ordinance would have allowed any man to go in and watch ladies shower and change all day long. The restroom is not even as much of an issue because there are stalls but I can see where it would still be uncomfortable. The tranny thing is not the issue with this law – the trannies are doing their thing and not bothering anyone. It is the pervert that now is considered breaking the law to hang out in the ladies room. If the coaches would explain that, there would be applause and approval from the parents of recruits.
MikeParticipantFeinstein is a great writer and I will read anything he writes. In spite of being a Dookie, I will read it and have probably read 10 of his books or so. Please read the book on Tom Watson’s caddy, Bruce Edwards – WOW.
I just got back from the beach and tried to check this book out for my time in the sand but it was checked out at the library and had several dozen holds. Maybe next year but I cant wait for this one.
MikeParticipantSweet!
Johnson and Smith pushing the ball, Rowan/Dorn/Henderson on the wings, Abu at 4 or even 5 and we have a very athletic push the ball up court team. This helps defensively also and should be huge for the end results.
MikeParticipantWhat really bothers me about this – I was driving last week and flipped in car to 99.9 TheUNXFan during the 12-3 slot. I dont normally listen at that time and hit the button by mistake, but the UNXHomer whom I refuse to listen caught my attention.
He was saying how terrible the situation is (and I personally am not defending the charges) because the SCHOOL and ADMINISTRATION covered up the charges in order to win football games. He continued on the same theme that the coaches knew, the admin knew, and no matter who is harmed in the process, as long as games were won on the field that was all that mattered. With a blatant disregard for anything else, what a travesty occurred simply for the sake of protecting the program.
While the statements are true, the irony is not lost. I so badly wanted to call in and say look in your own backyard. Delete the word Baylor and insert the word UNCheat and the commentary would have been spot on. But I guess those people over there make a difference because this is a criminal investigation and not an academic one.
Then the next group came on at 3 with basically the same comments, still completely ignoring the facts that once again substitute UNX for Baylor and the issue was the same – covering up for the sole purpose of winning games and thinking the power of the administration was too big to fail. It truly made me sick to my stomach how these people would trash Baylor and ignore 20 miles up the interstate.
MikeParticipantAll the talk of the ‘Cuse getting a gift of a bid – they are sure looking worthy right now. Lot of time left (10 minutes) but up 15 on Dayton.
Bittersweet – really want Archie to do well, but also for the few who think Archie is the 2nd coming – please stop if he cant even get past a bad Cuse team.
MikeParticipantThis is funny – there must be something I do not know about. On ESPN website, listed as players to watch – for Duke, Grayson Allen, makes sense. For us, Chris Corchiani, Jr.
Is there something I mmissed? Is Cat out and Corch Jr starting in his place? Come on, who writes this stuff?
No offense to Corch Jr but the only time we are going to watch him today is during TO’s in the huddle.
MikeParticipantWhy even have replay if not going to use it to make sure the call is right? We always get hosed on the replays, and I am sure Dook would agree.
Maintaining the catch through the ground is null and void when you take 3 steps and get tackled knee down, and then the ball pops free after hitting the ground (out of bounds by the way).
MikeParticipantAbsolutely a catch!
He took 3 steps and a knee down before he lost the ball.
11/04/2015 at 11:24 AM in reply to: Huzzah – Dave Doeren Answers BJD’s Last Remaining Questions Last Saturday #91450MikeParticipantI agree with the decision to onside kick (but who am I to have any credibility to say right or wrong).
They were going to get the ball back if we kick it deep and drive 80 yards anyway. Why not try to get the ball back and only force them to drive 45. We were not going to stop them either way so definitely worth a chance to get the ball back and gain a possession or two.
It is one thing if you are trading scores in an even game, but when down 2 possessions and no chance of stopping them, have to do something to swing the possession difference in your favor.
MikeParticipantAbsolutely agree with the onsides kicks. We could not afford to trade scores – we needed the ball back down 2 posessions we had no choice.
Now, give them a short field? Did it matter? If we pin them deep they would just drive it the length of the field anyway, so at least we had a shot at the ball. And they almost worked. I know about almost……..but it was our only chance to WIN the game. We played to WIN and that is important.
MikeParticipantAlso, I am so confused. So the refs can review a penalty for block in the back and pick up the flag. But they cant review the blatant block in the back not called on the Miami 15 or the Miami 25? I guess since the flag was not thrown they cannot review the missed penalty, but since a flag was thrown on the Duke 25 they can review?
MikeParticipantDD said Dayes had a toe injury, hopefully not serious. JB still locking on receivers and not checking other options. Dont want to complain about zebras but once again we get hosed. Several holdings not called when we are on D, and several muggings/holding on our receivers with no flags. In 3rd Q, DD was hot and screaming at one official who was watching the mugging and no call. I wish DD would go ballistic, get a penalty, get suspended or fined, but speak out and say we are not taking this any more.
MikeParticipantNice pick-up, and hope to see more of the same. Buford is GA powerhouse, just outside of Atlanta and usually is in HS top 25 schools, with several GA state championships.
Neal Auer, former Pack TE is one of the top assistants there and should be a great pipeline to the Pack.
MikeParticipantWallace Wade capacity is just under 34K – wondering if the 52K is the combined attendance for the first 2 games. If so, they would be 52K of potentiually 68K, or 76%. No way that place even renovated holds 52K.
I also find it interesting that the light blue are at only 67% of capacity – they had to expand and build new boxes but……….
