Now my next point for all the wanna-be coaches – why didn’t we play so and so, or why did we try this?

Many have commented on the FT shooters we had in the game when SL started fouling. Who would you pull out and put in?
    * Pull out Freeman and put in Washington? No gain there on FT%
    * Pull out JV and put in Anya? JV is probably the better FT shooter
*TJ missed more than anyone – would you have pulled him out?

Many have commented on the sub patterns – what would you have done differently?
    * Tyler was in and struggled – Gott put in Barber and both were in. Neither were effective
    * Would you pull JV out and put in Anya? JV was at least able to stand tall and be a relief pass in trouble
    * Pull out Freeman and put in Washington? I like KW, but Freeman is probably the better ball handler
    * At one time, we had TJ at the 5 with Tyler, Cat, Turner, and Lee
    * Gott made offensive/defensive changes. Why not Anya? Had he been in the game for D, he would surely have been
the designated foulee on offense if we got a stop.
    * Why wasn’t KW in the game? We needed D, and D is not KW’s strength
    * Gott tried many different combinations to make it work, trying to find the right solutions.

It is easy to sit in your chair and criticize the coach. But you dont know what he knows. Cat was sick, was he 100%? Was anyone else feeling ill? I am confident they work on the press every day in practice, and we the public dont see who handles the pressure well and who does not. Gott made his choices based on what he sees in practice every day. By the way, we also practice FT’s every day as well.

I am almost as frustrated reading the posts as I was last night watching. I refrained from commenting last night, not about the game but the posters. SFN has always a been a great site, far better than the tin foil hat people at the other place, but we have sunk to a new low here.

I hate it we lost, absolutely I wanted to win that game and we had it in the bag. But stop pointing fingers and stop 2nd guessing coaching decisions/abilities. If you are a better coach than Gott, why are you typing here and not coahcing your own game last night?

Just for fun, in one of my brackets, I picked us to go all the way. Did I really think it would happen? Absolutely not, but it was fun to write NC State all the way.

OK I am in – do I expect to win? NO! I chose not who I really think will win but my heart – GO PACK!!! The office pool with $$$ has a different ending.

But in my bracket, the *NX goes out in 1st round and the Pack wins it all! Also showing the Miller bros some love for Dayton and AZ. And ASU goes out in first round also, but that is going to happen anyway and feel good about that pick.

Mich St was tough all year, rated highly. They had some mid season injuries and lost some guys. Izzo is a good coach with experience, and now everyone is healthy. Mich St will be a tough out.

My prediction will be several upsets (as always) and dont expect the top teams to stroll to final 4, except maybe for our almost coach Donovan and the Gators.

My girls would love to have it Bill. If I misunderstood your point, my bad. I also know when I was in school, I did not have extra money in my pocket either for a pizza. I worked all summer and saved my money for the year, but there were some lean times.

Happy to be dancing, and a couple thoughts (not that anyone cares about my thoughts).

UVA deserved a #1 for winning the ACC and the tourney. I would be curious how many years the reg season and tourney does not get a #1. Probably rare if ever. Yes, the ACC is down this year but winning both merits a #1. Plus, many were saying Duke would have been a #1 if they had won, and therefore, UVA deserves the #1.

As for us, RDU to Dayton is an easy flight, and hopefully we get Dayton to Orlando, another easy flight. Dont over look Xavier but the way this team is playing right now, I would not want to look across the bracket from us. Freeman was huge against Duke and that will help him. Cat was elevating on his J and hitting it – that too will be crucial for the confidence and game moving forward. Vandy and Buckets are glad to have one more shot, and my guess is Pops will tell Jr to take over like he did for the back end of the season.

I am happy to see NCCU in and look out – those guys have won like 20 in a row. That team will not be an easy out and could surprise the #3 seed.

Seedings to me are overrated too – if you want to win it all, you have to beat good teams along the way. An 8 seed has to beat a 1 in the 2nd round, but a 6 seed would have to beat the 1 to go to final four. Point is, no matter when you play them, you have to beat them along the way. Only relevance to seeding is to say “we made the sweet 16” but the goal really is to win it all.

Sorry Bill, everybody can already have $100 a week spending money. It is called a Pell Grant – not a loan, but free money to those in need. Most of the D-I scholly athletes qualify and this is actually in most cases more than $100 a week.

I have two kids in college – they wished they had $100 a week in pocket money but they dont. I make too much money to qualify but trust me when I say I dont have an extra $100 a week for both of them.

IF we end up in the NIT and a game in Reynolds, sorry I will not be there. I support my team 100%, even when things look bleak, but I disagree completely with the whole premise of the NIT.

We need to increase our RPI or BPI or RBI’s or something to that effect. I think if we beat Miami (check), The Cuse, Dook, and then *NX, we will have increased our RPI enough to get an at large berth…………

Yes, that was a lame attempt at humor, because if we do that obviously we win the tourney and the automatic spot.

Exactly why the entire global warming thing is a huge hoax. WE cannot destroy the universe. If God can create it, He can also do what needs to be done to counter man’s mess. Global warming has been no more proven than officiating bias.

Would love to see TJ back for another year but dont think it will happen. The scouts draft on potential, and frankly, TJ is a very good college player but I am not sure what he has at the next level. He is not big enough for a 4 and not skilled enough from the outside or quick enough for a 3 perimeter player.

What do I know about what NBA scouts think? Admittedly nothing, but I cant help but think another year posting monster stats (I know stats contradict what I just said about potential) can only help TJ to maybe show more potential. But yes, I fear he is gone.

Haven’t read any of the above, don’t plan to. I saw it, already know it, and don’t have to stomach to read the comments of those with their @#$! up the rear of the officials.

To add, perhaps, something different from what has already been posted:

I was at the game. For perspective of my view, see the picture I took below of the evil cabal. That’s exactly the spot of the Warren “TO”. But what was even worse, in my opinion (though not as blatant, but with a bigger overall impact of the game), was the obvious moving picks, hip checks, elbows, knees and holds that went on off the ball, THE ENTIRE GAME. Almost as if they’re a legal part of the game built into Roy’s tactics and strategy.

I lost count on how many times I saw an NC State player moving on defense, off the ball, only to be knocked back or off balance, by an elbow/hip/or knee of a moving pick. Not called, not once.

    Absolutely pathetic.

Agreed that the moving screens and hip checks seemed to be worse than usual. We got called for one on Turner, and it was not even a screen. So for the posters commenting we left Paige open all night, see exhibit A, moving screens, holding, clutching, grabbing etc.

Sorry, I still don’t buy it that the stripes did not hurt us last night. Man up and score more points, put yourself in a position to win the game and dont rely on the whistles.

We DID, we had a 2 point lead and 30 seconds left with the ball in the hands of our most clutch player, potential ACC POY, and he gets absolutely mugged with no call.

I am NOT saying there is an edict from Swoffy but here we are at 7-8 in conference and we could/should be 10-5. How much different does the season look from 10-5 versus 7-8? We put ourselves in a position to win last night, We put ourselves in a position to win against the Cuse where the home run ball seals the game, and we put ourselves in a position to win at Wake, where 4 steps is legal. There is no official anti-State memo but we sure have our share of bad luck with regards to the zebras.

The other funny thing – when they went to review I told my sister at the game they cant review to see if he got fouled, they can only review to overturn who touched the ball last.

I said this would not be overturned. They would likely see a foul but the call would stand and *NX would have the ball.

The officials were terrible all night, with some calls in our favor and most against. But that one was blatant, and say what you will, that call cost us the game. Yes, IF TJ had hit both free throws, we would have gone to 2nd OT. But IF they call that foul (mugging is more like it), the whole complxion is different.

Can we channel a Gugs/CC encore?

This is not their rival game according to the fans and the media, but Roy thinks this is. Roy will have his troops ready because this is the rivalry for Roy.

The way they play D – certainly they can win it all. Final 4 last year gave them experience and confidence, things usually lacking from a “mid-major”. They are a balanced team offensively, and if you shut one guy down, another steps up. This fact is usually a good sign – but also makes one wonder about clutch time, if they have the one go to guy when they absolutely have to have a bucket.

I was screaming at the flagrant – we got robbed by lack of, then Cuse got benefit of it. Then they had it taken away at the end and frankly, I was with Boeheim. Sometimes I wish Gott would do the same thing when it is deserved.

Watching Duke and Cuse, did anyone see the flagrant foul Luckie called against Duke for Syracuse? Cusr fast break, Dawkins reaches in during the break and Luckie calls a flagrant intentional. The play against TJ was clearly more intentional or flagrant as they call it today. What a complete joke!

The sample size is large enough to note a disparity. If one game, it is a fluke. Over 5 games, looks more like a trend.

Officials are human and have biases. I know, I umpired for years. You have players you like and players you dont like, and while that never consciously takes a part in the decision making process, it does happen subconsciously. When you make the calls, you call what you see and hope you are being fair. Shall we do some psychological studies on seeing what you want to see and not seeing what you dont want to see? None of us really want to know the results of that study but let’s just say we all are biased and it does affect our subconscious.

THIS is the reason college sports are special and the “kids” need to realize how important the time is to their own development. When I say development, I mean both athletically and socially.
