Sherman would not destroy the property of fellow Masons.
Read the Slave Narratives if you get a chance. The perspective of those interviewed is interesting when the subject of Union troops comes up.

McCallumParticipantI’ve never read that Lincoln had a plan for Reconsruction. There are notions, myths, that somehow this guy that starved women and children, burned cities, crops, etc would have somehow become a mild and benevolent victor.
Nobody can seriously consider that option when weighed against the body of his work. His policies resulted in the political(roughly 15-20 years) and economic exploitation of the South to reward those business patrons on the northern war industry.
McCallum
McCallumParticipantI will add he freed the slaves- but only in the confederate states …
He was attempting to stir up something along the lines of Nat Turner x 1,000,000. Memories were long in the South concerning that matter since it had been a yankee play from the 1840s onward.
What else can be side for applying power where you have none yet refusing to do so where you have power?
The myths and deification of Lincoln has not slowed remotely. Any historian not filled with ideology would call him for what he was: an economic nationalist with strong ties to railroads (Illinois Central lead attorney on retainer) and industry who usurped dictatorial powers.
His getting blasted was a true measure of justice.
McCallum
McCallumParticipantLincoln was fairly destructive.
He destroyed the Jeffersonian constructs of the constitution, he arrested political opposition, he waged war without congressional approval, he suspended the writ, he shut down free press, his military decisions waged war on women and children (the Prussians hired Sheridan as a military advisor in the Franco-Prussian war), he assigned the burden of underwriting debt to the Chase family of Ohio, he used the military to keep the lawfully elected representatives from Kentucky and Maryland from voting on secession and he had no legal authority to force any state either into or out of the union.
At least Hitler won national votes on initial national referendums. Both Lincoln and Hitler were economic nationalists, the policies of both men resulted in massive death and destruction so in the end it is about winners and losers.
The federal government we have now which is not restrained by anything is the product of Lincoln. The invasion of Iraq and all the foreign adventures the US has been involved in is not possible without Lincoln.

Essentially nobody cares. As long as you are winning the detached fan could careless, they are simply looking to latch themselves onto a greater item.
The kids that will watch unc win could careless. In their eyes unc is good and that is all that matters.
Nobody cares about the pain of NC State. Everyone loves a winner, regardless, and nobody loves a loser.

There are some grower co-ops out there, Buy Sod is an example, which are designed to keep the price up. The sod guys always feared people like the Winslows of Halifax County (only an example) getting into the business and cutting price to gain market. The Winslows are an example I choose because they were big row crop guys, had lots of pivots and water, got into the business in the mid 90s and had all the infrastructure to make an impact. The old man snorted at the cost of getting into turf by saying, “that cotton picker cost me $350,000.00 and it runs 1 month out of the year”.
Now the co-op will say they can consistently source quality turf but they are also curbing the market price through market share. A form of stability to the turf business so to speak. They have always sought it, reasonable for sure but I set up more than a few people in the business and they are doing fine. No, I did not relocate to Scotland Neck either.
Zoysia is expensive because it is limited. The environmental demand will be, and expect it to be written into county and city bids, for vegetation that requires limited water inputs. The upsides are tremendous, the marketing just needs to align with production. The issue is the worry about price.
A little lobbying never hurts but I’d be planting zoysia at a rate of 200-400 acres/year until I hit 2,000 acres. It is coming, count on it.

Shade tolerant, disease tolerant, somewhat low fertility needs and……this is the kicker…….low water usage.
Fescue will be a thing of the past for corporate and municipal landscapes as water resources are pushed. Zoysia fills that void nicely.

McCallumParticipantThe left was not outraged by Soviet influence in the FDR and Truman administrations yet now believe the world is ending because Hillary lost the election due to Russian influence? Might as well forget about that non sense about commies under the bed, all fiction. Red Scare my a$$.
The strong stench of hypocrisy is evident, Chicoms from the 90s are all forgotten because “your man” did not win. The US has meddled in an endless number of elections, I thought the left was about equity.

I said take bermuda out of zoysia.
Had that issue in the early 90s. Fusillade was the only option and not a good one.
But one more for you, the operation I managed was peaches, tobacco and sod. Late August early September, about 300 acres of tobacco land would open up that had historically been drilled with rye. So I throw out the idea of seeding fescue sod but one snag, tobacco roots can’t be cut up and they would hold up the netting.
First 50 acres I gathered enough amigos and we picked up any tobacco roots left, threw them on trailers and dumped them. After that I dug a 4 point moldboard plow out of a briar patch, put it behind a 1066 International and buried the damn other 250 acres.
Easily the most profitable crop rotation in the state.
