their front 4 looks amazing this quarter. Maybe the national pundits meant to be writing about SC instead of NC

Are they not allowed to call a holding when our guy is coming around the end to get their qb?????

I agree, Troll. Our blitzes are too easy to spot. And we never check out of them if we showed them too early.

Between the uncalled block in the back on the qb scramble on 3rd and 12 and then that where we telegraphed that nobody would be in the middle for the TD, our hyped D isn’t looking good and they’re letting them play. Not started off well on D and Special Teams. Let’s hope our offense can keep us in it.

Thank you, Grey. This is exactly where I am at this point, and have been when we hired Gott. I want to win, sure. But I want to be proud of our program exceedingly more. And that means being proud of the coach (on and off the court), the players as men (on and off the court) and how they play as a team. Yes, that means I strongly dislike losing and will get frustrated when we blow a 14 point lead and can’t make free throws down the stretch like UVA last night, but I would be able to hold my head up high for cheering for a team of solid men that play as a team, respect their coach because he is a man worthy of respect, who strives for excellence in every area of his own life as well as the lives of his players.

I think our players seem to be good guys, for the most part. But I don’t see why we expect them to respect a coach who isn’t worthy of respect. Yes, they should respect the position, which is how I’m raising my kids when it comes to anyone in authority, be it a coach, police officer, President, teacher, etc. But I also have expectations on that leader to be worthy of that authority. That’s enough rambling for now, but I have to watch way more *NC bball than I would care to (wife being a *NC grad and all), but I will say that Roy’s players respect and love him for the most part, because he cares about them as men and as their coach. Would just be nice to have that here (without the cheating and lying, of course 🙂 ).

Thanks for posting this. I hadn’t seen any of these. It’s fun to see him interacting with the students outside his normal duties.

I too, was expecting Watson to throw a pick, as it feels like he had done that a few times in his career (granted I haven’t spent the time to look up if that’s true – could be the Pack in me expecting/experiencing the worst at times), but kudos to him for showing the leadership and cool needed in that situation with all that was on the line.

I know he’s not the prototypical QB for the NFL, but given what’s out there this year and his leadership, if my team didn’t have a QB, I’d be interested to see what he could do. He was more effective throwing than running anyway in some big moments in his career at Clemson.

An aside, it was also fun to hear our coach with the other coaches on ESPNNews during the game. I don’t claim to know the ins and out of the formations, so it was fun to hear them analyze the formations (and be dead wrong a couple of times in what they thought was coming next).

Pack78, I would agree the first one could have been called, but not the last one. I thought it was at first, but the defender is pulling he receiver forward and down. If that ball is thrown to him instead, it would have been more right to call defensive holding than a pick. Again, my opinion, but it seemed that Bama was willing to get a penalty over giving up the touchdown, forcing them to kick the field goal. And honestly, not a bad plan if you think you’re going to get beat, because the penalty doesn’t really hurt you.

Pack78, I had this same concern when we added Louisville. I didn’t have a ton of knowledge of them, but their academics and their choices in head coaches of the two main sports (and thereby, the administration that hired and keeps them) were enough for me to not want them in, regardless of how well their teams perform. – NOTE: I know Charlie Strong was there when the vote to add them was taken, but they had previously employed Petrino, and then that same administration hired him back, so the point still holds.

Fellas, thank you for the replies. And I wasn’t trying to in any way make an exact comparison with the atrocities that have been perpetrated for 2 decades and covered up at the other school*. I just wanted to hear from some of you that were following the Pack at that time so that I could be as informed as possible.

Adventuroo, that’s the first time I’ve seen the LA Times article you posted, so thank you for posting. I’ve been a State fan my whole life and an alum now, but I was around 10 when this was going on, so I really didn’t know what was going on at that age.

This is truly an honest question (to all WP fans), if what the author of this article is remotely true, or if parts of it are true at least, then a lot more was going on than just selling of shoes or tickets, right? We weren’t graduating players anywhere near 50% of the time, having grades changed, having athletics bully academics, having players barely be eligible to play, athletic tutors doing the work for the athletes, etc. <—-aren’t these some of the things we’re angry at that are being overlooked as well at *NC?

Truly not trying to stir up anything. Just trying to be in the know as well as be honest in my look at my own school, so I don’t become like those at the other school who refuse to look honestly at the evidence. If some of this is true, than we’re not any better if we simply gloss over our own faults as simply selling some shoes and tickets, and then want another school scourged (which I absolutely do!).

Thank you for helping me as I was not in a position during this time to grasp what was going on.

So Duke knew what play we were going to run there at the end and switch so Mav couldn’t get it? Either way, great effort!

I don’t like not enjoying actually winning…when you realize you literally barely beat the 0-win team, and were down most of the game.

I agree, Packzingo. I was thinking to myself at the beginning of the game that we actually were running offensive sets and looked pretty good. I figured it was because the team had some confidence because of the competition. But, alas, I see that we’ve returned to everyone standing around.

That was the right call as far as who the ball went out on

Going to have to have one more steal. Can’t do this with just fouling.

Sometimes he can be a spark, but even when he hits a couple, I find myself going, uh oh, now he’s going to start shooting everything. Kind of feels like a freshman at times where he has to learn to play within himself.

Is it just me or is it really obvious when Cody (is that Twin A or B again?) is going to take the shot. Cat looking for the ball, but he’s dribbling at the top like he’s deciding if he’s going to take on the whole defense, spins in the lane and then loses the ball. I was sitting here watching going, “he’s going to take the shot.” If I can see it coming almost every time, I know the defense can too.

Yeah, I wasn’t saying it wasn’t worth the flag, just understand the difficulty for the D with this weather.

I didn’t think that hit was worth any flag. QB had already pump faked once. And he only pushed him. Come on man.

Can someone help me see the 11th person on the field for UNC? I only count 10, and only 3 above the kicker. What am I missing?

Thanks guys for the response. Wasn’t trying to stir up anything. Just didn’t know if anyone here knew what the last contract was prior to this one.

    maverick_ncsu

Since I don’t keep track of this stuff as closely as some, could someone here remind me of what his contract was prior (salary, incentives, most importantly, length remaining). I only ask because I’m trying to figure out why now for the extension. If it was coming up soon, I get it so that it’s not a story throughout the season, but if not, do we really feel like we may lose him at this point? The results have been pretty good, but it’s not like we’re hearing his name popping up as one that schools are looking at each off-season.

Don’t mean to imply any dissatisfaction with our team or otherwise. Just curious to the thought process. We’ve had pretty good talent and recruiting for a little while, and I guess I just get nervous with contracts that look like we can’t get out if we need to, if we’ve hit our ceiling with him in a year or two. Again, just curious more than anything.
