LRMKeymaster
Think about this: five years ago he was the coach-in-waiting at Texas.

LRMKeymasterBoth with roots to Wisconsin.
I think Beilema is 0-16 going back to Wisconsin.
LRMKeymasterReminds me of the time walking past a UNC frat house on the way into Kenan before the 2000 game. One of the homely coeds shouted a derogatory comments about farmers. The guy in front of us stopped and shouted back “You gotta eat don’t ya? And from the looks of it, you haven’t missed many meals.”

LRMKeymaster^No one is arguing against that — at least I’m not.
This is a forum where we discuss our opinions. I’ve never once suggested Doeren should be fired. On the contrary, even though I wasn’t a fan of the hire, I’ve argued that we have to give him a chance to build it his way, simply because of the dire situation he was hired into.
We showed a lot of improvement yesterday, played very well compared to recent weeks. But, mistakes were made, and we’re just not a team (yet) that can overcome mistakes. Ultimately, we were outdone after some mistakes in both coaching and execution. And that’s why it was so frustrating to watch, because we did play so well against a very good team, and we were so close to a breakthrough.
LRMKeymasterDoeren won’t be fired after this season even if he’s 0-16. I’m not arguing he should be.
We all agree TOB was fired for what he didn’t do — build a foundation for the future post-Glennon, right? We’re simply just not the type of program that can hire a guy, put him in that dire a scenario and fire him after two seasons without giving him a chance to build something his way, then expect to upgrade. Our candidate pool would be only coordinators or desperate former coaches, any of which would be hired into the same scenario. That’s just reality.
But just because Doeren was hired into such an awful situation doesn’t make him immune to criticism.
LRMKeymasterIt’s the difference between fault and responsibility. It may not be the coaches’ fault the wrong personnel were in, but it’s definitely their responsibility.
We both agree TOB left Doeren nothing. But today — against a more-talented and well-coached team — they absolutely played their asses off and were in it near the end, which is what makes those mistakes all that more frustrating.
LRMKeymasterWhenever you use a timeout because the wrong personnel is on the field, and especially out of a timeout, it’s absolutely a coaching issue.
LRMKeymasterThat missed PAT after controlling the pace for an entire quarter just personifies 2014 State football.

VT at Pitt (-2)
Baylor (-7.5) at West Virginia
Texas A&M at Alabama (-11.5)
Stanford (-3.5) at Arizona State
LRMKeymasterThis is really a microcosm of all our problems.
Scholarship athletes — adult men — having BB gun fights is a sign of immaturity.
LRMKeymasterI love firing coaches as much as the next State fan. But the truly scary part is this: We’re simply not a program that can fire a coach after two years and expect to upgrade.
LRMKeymasterTo expound on Va’s very-legitimate criticism: we’ve only scored 17 points total since we led FSU 38-28, over nine quarters ago.
LRMKeymasterTuffy is a hero who, when an inept marketing department tried to push the drowning rats logo on us in the mid-to-late 90s, stood on that wall and said “Not on my watch.”
Philip Rivers has Tuffy blood running through him.

Ole Miss hangover.LRMKeymasterMost anything with Tuffy is LRM-approved. I like the helmet.
I also love our block S as the primary. And I’ve never understood why so many State folks care at all what those outside the family think, or if those outside NC think it’s Stanford. No one who matters thinks it’s Stanford.
That’s always been the problem with our marketing. We’ve always been more concerned selling our brand in Idaho, when we should just focus on promoting ourselves to ourselves.
That’s why the Our State campaign was so brilliant (at first).
I guess what I’m getting at is this: all flat-brim hats should be banned.
LRMKeymasterThe 2002 FSU game was the one a lot of folks thought Adiran McPherson might have thrown to settle his gambling debts.
We’d jumped out to 9-0 after romping Clemson on that Thursday night game, then we lost to GT, Virginia and Maryland in consecutive weeks (we blew the GT game late and then our offense went blah at Maryland and Virginia) before recovering with that win over FSU that got us into the Gator Bowl.
LRMKeymasterThat field-storming cost Ole Miss $50,000.
LRMKeymasterTo play Devil’s Advocate, there’s no sense using political capital so fans can rush the field. If we’d beaten FSU, it would’ve happened, teasers be damned. Keep in mind, too, that for every upset of #1 you have Rutgers fans storming the field after beating 2-4 Michigan.
LRMKeymasterI know the goalposts came down vs ECU in 97 then FSU and Cuse in 98. I don’t recall them coming down vs FSU in 02.
ECU took ours down after they beat Miami in 99 (after we so graciously let them use C-F after Floyd).
With our litigious society — not to mention the league fine they owe now — I understand the policy. They had their fun yesterday but I bet they put up collapsible goalposts now.
Clemson tradition allows their fans on the field after every game.
LRMKeymasterI’m more concerned with how they prevented something bad from happening without a strict 5-hour tailgating policy.
