How are the 2012 Jimmy V Classic uniforms not in our standard rotation of alternates?
We spend so much time overthinking how to market ourselves. And the main issue is we hardly market to ourselves.
LRMKeymasterI’m pretty sure we’re guaranteed a Tuesday ACCT game after today.
The CBI is pay-for-play. Every single person in the athletic department should be fired if we ever do that.

They’re just the local carrier for the ACCN. Butler-Georgetown is national CBS and I’m pretty sure national agreements stipulate you can’t leave a game until it’s over (which is why the next national CBS game Oklahoma-Texas our game is pre-empting regionally will also be joined in progress).
LRMKeymasterI’d rather see Philip retire now than ever take another snap for the Chargers — a franchise that should be criminally indicted for wasting his greatness.
Philip’s entire college and pro career can be summed up succinctly: he has deserved better.
LRMKeymasterI see this as an example of how numbers never lie, but they never tell the whole truth, either.
It’s certainly fair to say we improved, because we lost by less on average than 2014. But we still lost on average by two touchdowns per game (instead of on average three per game in 2014), and our only single-score loss was Louisville.
That said, I think any talk of firing Doeren now is ridiculous. But the pressure will be evident next season. I’m curious how “improvement” Will be viewed — especially considering, because of our tougher schedule, we could be a much-improved team and still be 7-5.
This should work itself out one way or the other next year.
LRMKeymasterTo be fair, Adidas pays us to wear those uniforms.
LRMKeymasterMississippi State under Dan Mullen has become a very good program.
Doeren desperately needs some wins next year. And that should work itself out — one way or the other — because we’ll have to win a couple games where we probably won’t be favored just for bowl eligibility: @ ECU, Notre Dame, FSU, @ Louisville, Miami, @ Clemson, @ Carolina.
LRMKeymasterGood points by Foose.
I think he transfers down to I-AA so he can play next year (he sits out next year if he goes to another I-A).
The main argument for Doeren is that he needs a few years to rebuild the foundation. You don’t do that chasing troubled transfers.
LRMKeymasterSpeaking of fan support, I saw Iowa has requested 55,000 tickets for the Rose Bowl. They may have 85,000 at the game.
LRMKeymasterI’ve seen multiple reputable media outlets reporting multiple scenarios.
I think what we’re learning is that no one — including the league office — really understands the tier rules. It’s almost like the ACC developed the tier rules thinking there’d never been multiple 8-win teams.
LRMKeymasterAh, Mearlefest — in the hometown of LRM.
LRMKeymasterFor all those who long for the old days:
Remember that when State last won the ACC we didn’t even get a bowl.
And the Bowl Coalition and Bowl Alliance days had bowl match ups set by early November.
LRMKeymasterWe need Florida State and Notre Dame to qualify for the NY6.
Otherwise it’s almost certainly Shreveport or Detroit for us.
LRMKeymasterRicht played at Miami. That’d be a home run hire for them (although maybe not for him).
LRMKeymasterNot sure how yet, but Notre Dame’s loss will somehow screw us again this year.
If Notre Dame falls out of the NY6, we may free fall again.
LRMKeymasterCow, I recall your story a few years back — one of my favorites — where you stuffed a handful of gravel in a UNC tuba over at Kenan.
Those are the stories the newbies need.
Writing used to be therapeutic for me. If I could count how many times I’ve started a story over the past while…I’m just sitting back lately waiting for the ending to change.
LRMKeymasterCow, I was worried I’d imagined that.
Also, try Turnpike Troubadours.
LRMKeymasterIt’s possible the win over LSU will prove better for an NCAAT resume than two wins over ASU and Marquette. We’ve learned the past few years how important Top 50 wins are. And if you beat a Duke or Carolina (or Miami or Louisville), the ASU loss won’t matter at all.
LRMKeymasterI’ll name a few you should check out based on the ones you listed:
Hayes Carll, James McMurtry, Jason Eady, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Boland
LRMKeymasterVa, I’ll add a third fact: must have an all black uniform alternate.
I fully appreciate how much recruiting matters.
But I also remember that Damien Wilkins was the next David Thompson.
LRMKeymasterMy problem isn’t really with the “NC.” It just seems to me that our marketing does a poor job representing our fan base — it’s all about expanding brand recognition.
I’m not buying a shirt with a hashtag or six logos and swirls on it.
LRMKeymasterI understand that perspective. But I disagree completely.
Our marketing seems to spend so much effort promoting the “brand” to outsiders, that it neglects those of us who really matter — those of us to which State is far more than a brand.
It’s what made the Our State campaign so brilliant at the time — we were marketing to ourselves.
LRMKeymasterAnything with Tuffy — especially pre-haircut — is LRM-approved.
Although I worry folks will be confused by which “State” we are without the NC in front of it.
LRMKeymasterI don’t support any plan where we play Maryland again ever in any sport.
My buddy makes a fine argument for Maryland having single-handedly prevented us from becoming more than a mid-tier program.
There havent been many marquee series for us in a while. The Alabama series was 20 years ago. And other than Ohio State — off the top of my head — the past 25 years our non-con Power 5 series have included South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Purdue, Indiana, Baylor, Louisville, Pitt, Cincinnati, Texas Tech, and South Florida (2008), with a one-time game at Texas and neutral site games vs Iowa and Tennessee.
The Belk agreement is with South Carolina — this seems to be the only way we’re going to play them, so it makes sense to me.
We’ve done a good job improving our nonconference scheduling over the next decade. I fully support adding Duke as a nonconference home-and-home like Carolina is doing with Wake.
