LifeLongWolfParticipant
Question for the recruiting gurus:
What does a “commit” mean at this point (for the 2019 class)? Are these guys contractually obligated now, or is this just verbal stuff at this point? If verbal, when is the “sign on the dotted line day?”
Thanks in advance.
LifeLongWolfParticipantAlthough I would love to see the “Iron Gates” around the borders of NC, I think it gets harder in the future. More elite players means more competition for PT. It’s a complicated formula, for sure, but just one item to think about.
Of course, winning cures a lot of problems.
LifeLongWolfParticipantI’ll bet Rye is right.
My own similar anecdote: I saw DD in the Orlando airport one time. I got up the nerve and went over to shake his hand. I said something about how he was doing a great job. He just grunted “Thanks” and made it clear he didn’t want to talk. He looked tired so I let it go. Socializing with the fans doesn’t seem to be his cup ‘o tea. Can’t really say I blame him, though, 24/7/365 recruiting must take a toll.
LifeLongWolfParticipantFor those who didn’t get to see the game, it is needs to be said that (other than 2 players – Mitchell and Robinson), BC is poo poo.
LifeLongWolfParticipantOne place I would definitely NOT recommend is Picnic in Durham. It touts itself as a classic BBQ joint, but it’s an abomination. Trendy hipster place with no soul and bad food.

So far I have seen more ups than downs. Given all the change, the somewhat limited talent and how that was assembled after last season KK gets my support. As has been mentioned we have good talent but maybe not top 4 ACC talent. As a team you can cover some of that but the later in the year it gets the harder it is to accomplish.
+1 Tractor FTW
LifeLongWolfParticipantPA44, not only do I agree with your elegant assessment, but I thoroughly enjoy your writing style. My inner scientist/statistician is very happy. That’s one of the benefits of a fan site for a science based school, I guess!
LifeLongWolfParticipantLooks like Y7 just got his first foul called on him in Chapel Hill. Richard Howell is already at 2.
LifeLongWolfParticipantCD, there is a direct relationship between how often you comment and a particular thread’s level of interest. So, never be shy about sharing.
To borrow a phrase: “More Cow(Dog)!”
LifeLongWolfParticipantI love these videos. I especially love Coach Henry. I would run through a wall for him!
LifeLongWolfParticipantCD is right. Y’all need to chill.
DY released this info on purpose. We are not the intended target. The target is recruits. They need to know that DD will be here through their entire college career. The actual deal will not get signed until later, just like most of y’all want it to be.
I actually think releasing this info now is quite shrewd.
LifeLongWolfParticipantGrey, as to the data on 4th down decisions, that is science based analysis. As to the WHY coaches tend to ignore the data, that is opinion.
LLW
LifeLongWolfParticipantYeah, FB68, the coach who never punts also always uses the onside kick. So, you are correct.
LifeLongWolfParticipantGrey, I am sorry that you didn’t have time to read the article I posted. Maybe you could read the one kindly posted by PPP, it is also a great one. In case you don’t want to read the whole thing, here’s an excerpt from the second one:
Every single serious study of 4th-down decisions has found that, in most situations, teams would be better off by going for the conversion attempt rather than kicking. I’ve recently completed a study of 4th-down decisions that confirms what some fans already know, that it pays to be more aggressive.
To put it another way, the data shows that punting gives you less points than going for it would give you, on average. You win more by going for it. As I said earlier, punting has become thought of as the “safe” choice due to coaches concerns about who gets the blame, not who wins.
I believe punting is just plain wrong. Yes, even 4th and 19 from your own 5.
I agree with this coach 100%: Coach who never punts
LifeLongWolfParticipantGrey, the point is that punting is MORE risky than going for it in many situations.
LifeLongWolfParticipantMe? Lifelong shunner of the baby blue (Dad was Class of ’60, I am class of ’91 and ’95), which remains difficult seeing as how I married a Tarheel.
Isn’t it amazing what you can find online? I am too stupid to figure out how to post the picture inline (can someone with more skillz figure out how to do that? I could copy and rotate it, just not post it here). Go to page 17.
CD, I have about got you narrowed down to 2 names based on the roster…

LifeLongWolfParticipantEAS said:
Still think Gott is going to have to give some serious thought to what Cat’s role is going to be in the future.
This. Barber can play D and shows flashes on Offense, but is generally an offensive liability. Hope the lightbulb goes on at some point soon.
LifeLongWolfParticipantI wonder which WF running back is going to have a career day?
LifeLongWolfParticipantIs it just me or was DD throwing some shade at UNC-CH when he made the comment about telling Pharaoh about his new role in the defense? It’s like DD went out of his way to make sure to say he was “in the library studying.” Planned or not, I loved it.
At this point we have a decent chance to go 7-5 and win 3 ACC games. If you had asked me at the beginning of the season, I would have said that sounds great, I’ll take it, solid improvement. 6-6 (2-6) is not as shiny, but not too bad either, all things considered.
LifeLongWolfParticipantPreach it, ‘Foose. You are 100% correct.
Specifically in regards to criticism of going for it on 4th down:
In my opinion, punting is WAY overused at all levels of football, primarily as a way for coaches to avoid taking direct responsibility for potential losses. DD’s tendency to go for it on 4th down shows that he isn’t afraid to take responsibility. I am glad to see it.
LifeLongWolfParticipant1) I would be King of the Dancers in Slovakia. Ok, well, maybe not.
2) Why are there other people in that video other than bikini girl?
LifeLongWolfParticipantAgree with others that TL transferring is likely, but I really root for him to stay. He is the kid like us who actually worked hard to get where he is, he wasnt blessed with tons of height or other natural skill. We all want to see that kind of hard work rewarded, but sports are a results based business and so far his results haven’t been stellar. I do think he played well at ND.
Any chance he has girl problems or something like that? He is a young man in college after all.
Sophomore slump?
LLW
LifeLongWolfParticipantI dig ’em. Three wolves is the worst, but I really like the ‘Strutting Wolf’ ones.
LifeLongWolfParticipantOn a tangential note, I want some enterprising young hackers to change the UNC intro song LMFAO’s “I’m in Miami, B1tch!”
