AT, to all but those of us that pull for State, it isn’t the plum job it used to be. It will take major rebuilding. I doubt any established “name” is interested. KEATTS has a great resume, equal or better than any of our all time coaches before coming to State. Neither K nor Dean Smith had as good a resume coming into the ACC.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantIn Coach Case, Sloan, and Valvano, we gave opportunity to 3 men with not much more than potential a chance. Coach K nor Dean Smith were sure things when hired. I think we have had this attitude of needing a big name to right the ship. That doesn’t happen often. On paper Keats has great potential. And he has been in State for 3 years. He hits the ground running, he doesn’t have to learn the area. Welcome Coach, go get ’em.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantAnd, what powerhouses did our best 3 BBall coaches in history come from? Keats had much to do witha Championship under Petino. He resurrected the dead in Wilmington. He already knows the recruiting landscape in NC and VA. Keats is at least as good if not better than anyone else we’ve hired in the last 30 years we have sucked. Give the man a chance. Welcome coach.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantOnce again we have talent. Once again Gott can’t elevate the team. At this point anyone that thinks Gott is our answer is either a hopeless optimist or a masochist. Reality has to set in at some point, We are as non relevant to big time basketball as we were 6, 8, 10, or more years ago.
ldr of the pk 75Participant4 year conference record 8-23 I believe. 3 wins against ‘Cuse and Wake, 1 ea against Heels and BC. I’m hearing he gets 1 more year, not necessarily to turn it around either. I am assuming the cost is the factor along with the AD situation. We’re making no improvement and the next recruiting class is supposedly average to rag tag. Either way, we don’t look to improve for a few years. Sad for fans, worse for those with skin in the game.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantTo me, the game really boiled down to 3 or 4 plays. Early on we fumble in the Red Zone. They get a 60 some yard run to go 7-0. Later, I believe on a third down, they go 30 something for a TD. We still had a chance, even though we did not look good. The running game wasn’t great and Brisette looked awful.
I still fall in the camp of believing we need to improve our schedule. 4 cupcakes doesn’t allow you to find out much. But beyond that, potential recruits, at least good recruits, see that kind of schedule and go other more high profile places. Hence we try to build a program with less than the talent it takes to play at an upper level. Doesn’t mean it can’t be done, just that we haven’t.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantHope they’ve climbed on the bus and headed back to Raleigh. Embarrassing, but the kind of performance by players and staff that we expect more times than not. No excuse. Not sure about the left handed cig, but a stiff drink might be a soother.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantAn utter failure!! The death spiral has begun. This team and this staff are an embarrassment. No progress, no development. The NIT? Who gives a crap? But hey, the NIT is for losers. This program should feel right at home.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantThis a WTF program.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantFat lady isn’t around for the end, she sang in the first half and left.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantWell, that’s two, but really, a jacked three for the first shot of the half?
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantI agree redwolf. This staff recruited these players, and these players chose to play for this staff. If the staff has lost the team, that says more than just about tonights game or season.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantSupposedly good coaching staff, supposedly good talent for players…..supposedly. For a team that has this going for it, they are as fundamentally unsound, undisciplined, and undercoached as any. They are an embarrassment plain and simple.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantWe remain an average program, masquerading as big time basketball. You don’t become an elite program with just pretty unis’s or a pretty home floor design. You have to develop as players and coaches. You don’t become elite letting these type games go, or at Miami Thursday. We play too well during short segments of any game, not to be able to capitalize and close the deal a good percentage of the time.
ldr of the pk 75Participantwide open man in the corner, but no lets shoot while covered up solid.Pack Family has it correct, poor shot selection at the end of too many games. However from the 5 min mark of the 1st half to the 15 min mark of the 2nd half , we blew an 18 point lead. Sometimes it shouldn’t come down to poor shot selection at games end. You should be at the FT line salting the game away as the other team struggles.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantUncontested three….nice defense!
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantRefs or not, the pack has let this one get away. No composure.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantJobbed by the refs.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantDitto 1.21
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantWe laid another turd. Fertilizing the field but no game.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantDoeren can turn it around. NIU had a first round pick of a safety by the 49er’s. Given the step up to the ACC I see him doing better things here. We were thin for a while. TOB outlived his welcome, period.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantWith last season’s results and the prospects for this year, unacceptable is the only thing you can say about this year. In an open tryout, I bet you could find 2 or 3 nobodies that could hit better than this group. Could they hit any worse? In sports, it always starts with the coaching staff. Whether it be the roster, training, in game coaching decisions, etc, it starts with the coaching staff. Last year looks to have been a mirage, a dream, or just dumb luck. I may be a bit off base, but one of the knocks under Jed was that resources weren’t being allocated to support a good team. I believe that has in part been addressed by DY. So, how can you be this crappy a year after last year, and with one of the top pitchers in the country? We probably won’t even play in the ACC tournament.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantWell put triad.
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantWhat? Herb/ASU lost?
ldr of the pk 75ParticipantEveryone is saying FT’s, and you’re correct. Poor ball handling, poor play calling, standing around, correct. Also saying open lanes, open shots for the opposition, also correct. All of this could be seen coming all season. In spite of what overall might be called a good year, this team is as poor fundamentally as it gets. That is on the players and the coaches.
