jrcox4ParticipantYawn. Took a lot of beer to get me through to the W. Could beat Wake. Otherwise we might not win in October…or November. I guess I’m still pessimistic after last week and bored after this week.
jrcox4ParticipantThat shovel pass might work against Wake. Might.
jrcox4Participantgood response drive to stave off any nascent panic!
Panic or apathy?
jrcox4ParticipantSo any time we trot McClendon out there, we should expect a QB sneak?
jrcox4Participantthis football game makes me want to punch myself in the balls
Our program makes me want to punch myself in the balls.
jrcox4Participantjrcox4ParticipantRed – whether you go on a random weekend or 10/22, the bourbon will still be good…
jrcox4ParticipantNo disagreement here Tex. My biggest worry is we actually lose and my coworkers decorate my desk accordingly. My boss has worn a State tie the past two years, I am under no illusions that they would let me not do something similar…
jrcox4ParticipantI work with a bunch of ODU grads (hazards of moving to the Tidewater after graduation). I do my best to avoid talking football with my “Big Blue” cladden coworkers so I can’t speak to the quality of their football team, but none of my coworkers have expressed any optimism that they they can stay within three scores. On an interesting note about most of my monarch collegues is that they hold engineering positions at the company while having an engineering technology degree. Oh and their stadium didn’t have indoor plumbing last year when we played in Norfolk.
jrcox4ParticipantOutcoached.
Outplayed.
Out-“wanted”.jrcox4ParticipantRG2!
jrcox4ParticipantLook at ACC refs getting one right
jrcox4Participantjrcox4ParticipantNeed to throw more to the outside to get some pressure out of the box
jrcox4ParticipantYeah this has been an underwhelming start…
jrcox4ParticipantI went back and watched the first two drives from Thursday’s game, hoping to learn more about the new offense. I like it. It’s probably not going to be really flashy, obviously we used a lot of high percentage throws. Two plays stood out to me:
Empty Backfield with Finley in the gun, JSam in the field slot with two WRs outside of him, two WRs on the boundary. Outside WRs ran 5 yard curls, JSam ran a slant over the middle, and the other two WRs ran deep crossing routes to open the space. Pass complete to JSam and then he had a nice downfield block from a WR to get a nice gain. Finely had 3/5 wide open (slant & the 2 curls) and with the right touch might have been able to hit one of the deep posts. It might not be razzle dazzle, but Finley had options on that play.
I forget the exact personnel package, but shotgun, dayes lined up left of Finley. Cole cook lined up out in the slot. After the snap, dayes runs to the left sideline like he’s going to take a swing pass, and Finley is looking at him like he’s waiting on him to turn to dump it off. Instead, he rotates and tosses it to cook for about a 10 yard gain. Nothing flashy, but I liked that Finley used his head to draw the defenders into thinking he’s going to dump it to dayes (which may be a go to play this year) and at the last second throws it to the middle of the field.
Like I said, it may not be the flashiest offense, but it seems like we will spread it out to make high percentage throws. I’m a fan of it. Only complaint was that sometimes our bubble screens were predictable or slow to develop.
jrcox4ParticipantWhile I’d like to think that we can pull 6-6 out of the hat, I get called caught up on who we play September 24th…no one. I don’t like having the bye week well before the meat of our schedule (ND, @Clemson, and @Louisville in a row well before FSU comes to town and the BC trap game in betwenn). To me that means we’ll run out of gas, and the best case scenario is we go to Kenan needing a win to go bowling and need to put up a good fight. Of course, I can just as easily see us going to to Kenan with 4 wins and rolling over too. It’s safe to say Doeren (and by extension DY) has sufficiently lowered my expectations and I’ll be “happy” with 6 wins, and will dutifully renew my season tickets. At least the tailgates will be fun.
jrcox4ParticipantPly: I’m listening on a station titled “North Carolina St. Wolfpack Sports Network”
