Oh, you can’t chalk up +9 in the win column for Henderson. It doesn’t work like that.Surely it would have been a better season, but every single digit loss??
You can in fairy land where everything is perfectI have an idea!!! How about someone with a bit more pull than myself see if we can change the poll to query folks on what they think the win total difference would have been with Henderson? Sure, I enjoy reading the banter (I truly do), but more curious to see the data. Heck, at a minimum it sounds like a much more interesting poll topic than the existing one.
gso packbackerParticipantLet me say something before this thread has completely devolved into useless drivel and baseless accusations.

Really appreciate the work Sacco put into the match previews. Really helped me out and was a great way of stay more “involved” in an incredible year for the team.
GoPack access has a nice video of Pop talking to the team at Iowa that I highly recommend. Gives you a good idea of his style and the kind of relationship he has with his team.
02/25/2016 at 5:48 PM in reply to: A Victory Over the Tarheels Would Salvage an Average Season #100172gso packbackerParticipantI’d be pissed if I bought season tickets and had high expectations too. Fortunately, I’ve tempered my season expectations 2 or 3 times already this year and gave up making regular, long treks to basketball games years ago.
As for football, I’ve found the key to success (for me anyway). I make my primary focus the tailgate since I may or may not be satisfied with what I see once I walk in the stadium. 🙂
Either way, I love the University and will continue to watch us play all sports, especially when I can enjoy a cold, adult beverage at the same time.
02/23/2016 at 1:23 PM in reply to: #4 NC State Wrestling caps off historic season winning at #2 Iowa #100037gso packbackerParticipantThoroughly enjoyed “watching” the match last night via twitter updates since I wasn’t able to get the audio feed. A sweet ending regardless, but even more after the VT match. ACC and NCAA Tourneys coming up and hopefully this gives us a little extra confidence boost.
gso packbackerParticipantSheesh, I’d love to see a top 10 class and truckload of top-rated recruits too, but it ain’t happening and I’m not all bent out of shape about it either. Maybe it’s because I’m approaching fifty.
Either way, I’m a big fan and I have the same biases you all do about how top coaches and players should flock to “my school” because of how great it is/can be.
Before anyone accuses me of accepting mediocrity, that’s not the case. However, if you look at how we’ve performed over the past 20 years, our program is generally a top 50 school. Historical Rankings. So, take a moment and look at the list of schools in the top 30 and think about what school holds a greater draw in football. I can readily debate these rankings, but think about if your kid was a top talent and you had no allegiances. Would you undoubtedly rate NC State above those top 30 schools?
Given our performance this past year and where we are, I think our recruiting class ranking is about what I would expect.
Bottom line, I imagine our Recruiters have to work pretty darn hard selling against those schools.
gso packbackerParticipantMay I suggest you skip trying to change him and read this. Toddler and Tarheel (fan), essentially interchangeable here.
gso packbackerParticipantWell….according to GoPack.com schedule and results, we beat FSU 85-78 Feb 1 in Tally for our first win. So I’m going with Feb 1st. I think better question is how bad will the Cheats beat us by on the Hill Sat. I say 3 touchdowns.
I noticed this as well. Looks like they inverted the stats so not only did we get the Feb 1 win, but we shot over 50% from the floor.
Even better if you look at the stats, GoPack Stats
they have apparently duplicated the stats for both of the twins for 1 game. Not sure if it was a game that actually occurred since they both shot over 50% from the floor. 🙂gso packbackerParticipantI missed the game last night and checked the box score this morning then read the end of this thread. Watching us play most of the season, this quote struck me as I have been feeling exactly this.
Is there no limit to Caleb Martin’s green light?
His ACC Stats
Player GP GS Ttl Min Avg Min. FGM FGA FG Pct 3FG 3FGA 3FG %
Martin, Caleb 4 4 135 33.8 12 48 .250 8 36 .222I kind of feel that he just works so hard and tries to do too much. Love the effort, but sometimes I sense it could be addition by subtraction (or vice versa)
gso packbackerParticipantAs an Executive Recruiter as well, I somewhat disagree. Money is important (for those not independently wealthy), it’s just not the only important thing! Further, when someone makes money a top priority, they are thinking short term, not long term.
With all that said, there are likely more factors at work than we may ever know. However, it could be as simple as “if Mama ain’t happy, nobody’s happy.
Bottom line, I like the hire. I like it a lot!
gso packbackerParticipantLook forward to your preview and to seeing what this team can do down the stretch.
12/17/2015 at 9:24 AM in reply to: 13th ranked Wrestling team wins at #4 Oklahoma State 19-15 #94589gso packbackerParticipantA good friend and former All-American wrestler texted me the latest poll. Looks like we’re now up to #3.
gso packbackerParticipant– No one knows/understands what goes in the minds of high school kids.
I don’t follow recruiting other than what I read here, but admittedly I was excited at the possibility of landing Bam. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago when I realized that Bam was in school here locally at HP Christian with a couple of my soccer players. So, next day at practice I asked them if they knew him and told them I hoped that he would go to NC State. The two girls looked at me a bit oddly and bluntly stated, “I don’t think he’s going to NC State”.
To VaWolf’s point above, we adults can guess what these kids are thinking, but it is an exercise in futility. Of course, a young lady is probably a better barometer to measure that. Maybe those boys up in Louisville were on to something. 😉
gso packbackerParticipantWow! That boy can lose/gain weight like a Kardashian. Maybe he is hanging with our wrestling team.
07/20/2015 at 9:31 AM in reply to: Restoring an icon – Reynolds Renovation – Where do you stand? #87649gso packbackerParticipantI think updating the building is a great idea! For the non-major sports that will use the facility, it must feel like a quantum leap forward as well. Newer isn’t always better, but it seems they have a good balance of new and old.
Here is a link to the Reynolds construction webcam as I didn’t see this posted elsewhere.
gso packbackerParticipantSure, hanging up your own quote is a little unusual, but it seems the intent is to communicate a message to the players (just like “1 Pack 1 Goal”) about who this team is going to be. If he placed it inside the stadium or if it was about how they crushed the Cheats then I might agree.
gso packbackerParticipantI listened for about 2 minutes and then had to cut it off as it was too painful to listen. Regardless of his affiliation, I sure wish our Conference Commissioner came across as a more competent and effective leader.
10/29/2014 at 2:29 PM in reply to: In the Eyes of a State Fan, Wainstein Offers Redemption for Media #60125gso packbackerParticipantThe rub for me is that if the NCAA does essentially nothing further, then is this not the new model to operate under for maintaining athlete eligibility? Also, what the heck does the meaning of institutional control become? Apparently coaches are only responsible for “controlling” the athletics portion of the student-athlete. I’d sure be more than pissed at that thought if I was a college professor.
gso packbackerParticipantThis is the part I found particularly interesting.
“In the case of 329 students, the grade they received in a paper class provided the “GPA boost” that either kept or pushed their GPA above the 2.0 level for a semester. For 81 of those students, that GPA boost was the margin that gave them the 2.0 GPA that allowed them to graduate. “gso packbackerParticipantJust spent about 15 minutes perusing the report and while there appears to a lot of really good data, I walk away with the sense that everyone involved is a victim. I guess I will need to go back and read it in more detail, but one would imagine that EVERYONE can’t be victim.
gso packbackerParticipantVaWolf, thanks for bringing it back around! Completely agree that we’ll be 5 games into the year and many of us who are less enlightened may not have a good handle on who this team will be in the second half of the season. I just hope that we still don’t know after we leave Death Valley.
Then again, with the somewhat mercurial nature of our program, that’s been one of the few things we could actually count on. 😉
gso packbackerParticipantRunners have nothing on vegetarians and crossfitters when it comes to proselytizing
Hahahaha! I agree the runner’s high is pretty cool, but it is a thing of the distant past for me. When I got to the point where it took me at least 20+ minutes to warm up enough so I could stretch properly I gave it up. The warm-up and cool down shouldn’t take longer than the actual exercise, besides sex, of course!
gso packbackerParticipantI meant to add the link to the article previously. Since it didn’t work, I will learn later what I did wrong and just paste the address on the DTH site.

gso packbackerParticipantI thought this was a belated April Fool’s joke for a minute. Nope, just more statistics that will surely only obfuscate the core issue.
“I think that this is going to make us the leader,” he said. “No one has done it as well or as thoroughly as we are going to do it. So this is pretty exciting.”
Don’t sell yourself short sir, we think you’ve been “leaders” for a quite a while. 😉
gso packbackerParticipantI was waiting for the Coach K comments.
Should Duke fans be more pissed than our fans over the result of their first round game? I would think so, but then again, I am not one of the 29 people who think TJ is come back either (see our poll) 🙂
