It needs to be noted – and taken with a grain of salt – that this article was written by Andrew Carter, the N&O’s dedicated UNC reporter. You can’t expect him to have an objective opinion on how UNC achieved there place, because his job is to pander.
I liken this to if Joe Gilio wrote about the Butch Davis years of recruiting and how it resulted in mediocrity because of Russell Wilson, a 2 star recruit.
Good for Pete – can’t see I didn’t see this coming. However, more importantly, what does this mean for QB succession? Would have liked to see Pete stay and back up Jacoby next year and allow McClendon to RS.
Understand they have different QB styles (not even sure Pete’s > a mediocre pocket passer), but would have loved to see Jacoby start for 2 years then hand off to McClendon as a RS Soph… Any chance for a backup transfer?:)
Am I crazy to say – if we need to play the backup next year – play a walk on, RS McClendon, and sacrifice next year for the greater good 3-4 years into Doeren’s program? The alternative would be to start a true freshman that otherwise wouldn’t be able to start until year 3 anyway since Jacoby is “Heir Apparent” for 2 years!
FOR THE LIFE OF ME… I cannot understand what else the NCAA needs to come down on UNC for the academics scandal!
Exhibit A – Afro American department guilty of offering fraudulent, no show classes and hundreds un-authorized grade changes. Men’s BBall and Football players make up a disproportionately large percentage of enrollments.
Exhibit B – Former academic advisor for athletics “Yes, we directed [athletes] to the paper class program….the administration knew they existed.”
I don’t see this going away for UNC without the NCAA ruling/ commenting publicly. Regional news is one thing, but there’s too much national press for this to just go away.
