ParticipantWolftownVA81: they make mistakes on the court, that you just don’t see at this level. This has to fall on the coach; you have to look at these players as trainees.
On the other hand, it doesn’t seem like a lot of these guys have a killer basketball instinct. Courtney Fells is an athletic freak that happens to play basketball. It’s a downright shame that someone with his physical attributes would base his game on the three point shot. Maybe there is something to be said about position-less above average players not fitting with Lowe’s coaching style. Look at the Phoenix Suns after taking on a defense-oriented approach versus the show-time they had with D’Antoni. They have literally traded almost the whole team to make it work, and are about to trade one of their cornerstones. I think we saw what this team can do in that point of one game all the young guys were playing and the sendek crew were sitting. Painfully so, we should see what next year brings, it just frustrates the crap out of me that we are underachieving for the 2nd straight year, with the talent to do otherwise.

Participantmjmitche, I’m going to channel Noah here, and say that you are pointing out one of a plethora of problems. You can’t blame last year on the players because of personal issues, because it is the coach’s job to deal with that. And now Degand injuring his knee in class? I’m afraid that he might need much more time to improve as a coach than the fans are really willing to give. We have become the NC State Lions, which is just an awful position to be in as a fan. Millen, *cough* Sid, would only admit he is in over his head after it is a done deal. By the way, it was Fowler’s job to hire a high-profile or an up-and-coming coach, to at least keep the recruits that had committed. Truly truly failed at that, which is why we suffered mediocrity for so long. I agree with others that NC State is a sleeping giant full of potential, and don’t think the folks at UNC and Duke don’t realize that.
By the way, do you guys really think Sean Miller would consider coming here? He is secure at Xavier.
I believed the “don’t have a point guard” excuse for a long time, but now it is clear that we have talent to compete, but haven’t been taught to compete with talent.

Participantthe first half just goes to show we have enough talent to be a winner, the second half just goes to show we don’t have the coaching or leadership from the bench to do anything with it.
take off the blinders, “bare cupboard”, “his guys”, “offense relies on a good point guard”, I’m going to break your little excuse generators. I just don’t see the coaching. And to say Sendek was better is absurd, he laid the same kind of eggs that got produced today.
At least the lakers won.
