JeremyHParticipant
So how good is this Lacey kid going to be for us next year?
JeremyHParticipantTJ has ball magnets for hands.
JeremyHParticipantI liked Cat at the end of the 1st half, want more.
JeremyHParticipantWell TJ is such a natural scorer, much like my colleague Lakista McCuller, “pure shooter”.
JeremyHParticipantI don’t think we’re getting any of the breaks tonight.
JeremyHParticipantTyler Lewis can’t lose.
JeremyHParticipantway too many unforced errors to win
JeremyHParticipantIs there a reason Lewis and Cat never play together? (Because they are too competitive with one another?)
JeremyHParticipantCan we trade Lee?
JeremyHParticipantWhy don’t we play “hack a X” where X is their worst free thrower shooter on the floor any given moment, where we send in a bench warmer to do the fouling. The way we play defense, we might as well not be there.
JeremyHParticipantWere really going to miss TJ next year (assuming he leaves).
JeremyHParticipantYou guys sound like bloody conspiracy theorists! One does need to admit we are losing games in strange fashion at the ends..and poor TJ Warren getting mugged on a regular basis and haven’t phantom foul calls on him. So how many years will we have to eat s*** over the Karl Hess thing? But honestly, why don’t we get the ball to our ball handlers in those end of game situations. We don’t have enough ball handlers?? Oh well, on to the next one, I expect these guys to bounce back.
But here’s the old news, UNC and Duke know how to play physical defense-without fouling, and have been doing it for years, and he didn’t under Sid and we don’t under Gottfried (I don’t remember about Herb, well it was never that physical).
JeremyHParticipant10-8 with wins over @Clemson and UNC, and no loses against lower-half ACC teams, might be the most realistic best possible outcome. (I don’t see @Pitt in the cards for this young team, and @Syracuse goes without saying). And if they pull off @Clemson and UNC, which are remaining, important barometer games, then they certainly should be good enough to put 1 or 2 together in the ACCT.
JeremyHParticipantGood Win! (Because its a win.)
I had a hard time watching the last couple of minutes, because I knew it would be decided on a last second sort of deal. I kept flipping to cross-country skiing to take the edge off…
There was a moment where we were up 6 with 6 minutes left, had recovered a rebound, and Warren threw it away on a break. If we had slowed things down more at that point, it just wouldn’t have been such a close finish. If Lewis can provide a little more offense, then we can have him in there when we need him, the steady force that he can be.
JeremyHParticipant“Awful game plan and preparation. Average coaches won’t ever beat equal to higher talent without luck.”
Is this really true? Our role players did great against FSU at home, but we are an underclassman team on the road, in CHeat-Hill, what did you really expect? Were those expectations realistic?
I think they started flat and took too long to get into the flow. Is this typical of any team coming off a “high” victory couple days prior, or is Gottfried just such a terrible coach? (Another good question for opinionators.)
I love what Des Lee did today. He and the freshman will likely make a jump next year in their play and we have reinforcements in talent at guard and size.
JeremyHParticipantWell, Vandenberg needs to visit the Howell School of Avoiding Excess Fouls, is there time?
Wish Anya a speedy recovery, was hoping to see his matchup with Meeks on Saturday.
And this assumption that we will at worst split with UNC is a bit loaded, but they are near our RPI so it shouldn’t be impossible..
Oh, loved the 3-guard lineup, hope it becomes appropriate again in the future.
JeremyHParticipantOne of the downfalls of being a young team is that you can lose to anyone. One of the advantages of being a young, talented team is that you there is room for growth over the course of a season and you know its about peaking at the right time. I think both “factions” will agree with these statements. I agree that surviving GT at home, is not a great indicator of future success, but they will have opportunities to turn some kind of corner, while they’ll continue to gut these games out until each closing bell. Alex Johnson (two years ago) going from bricking every shot to being a key cog of offensive production was such a small but pivotal thing.
JeremyHParticipantLewis’s first three caused a six point swing, off Golden’s miss that could have put them up 14. Great to see him start hitting, he’ll keep more minutes if he can continue that. Some of our freshman played like freshman, which should be expected. Lee sometimes plays out of control but seems to be learning from his mistakes. Turner is starting to be pretty reliable. Overall they dusted off the Sunday’s malaise and pulled out a game they trailed for most of the game, so that’s a good sign. Maybe they could play more of the game with trapping or active zone with all the athletic players we play, unless its just more effective when done sporadically to throw off the opponent.
JeremyHParticipantDid it seem like no one wanted to win this game? I’m glad they learned to close one out, though. One thing that we do well that we should do more is interior passing among the bigs and forwards, leads to good things.
JeremyHParticipantthat’s funny. anyway how can we be the underdog if we win too much. they put us back into script.
JeremyHParticipantwas Buckets tired from playing all that D?
They adjusted better at halftime and beat us. Too many drives were automatic foul calls and we did nothing to adjust.
JeremyHParticipantYou have to admit it though, we bricked a ton of shots tonight, at home.
JeremyHParticipantToo bad we can’t have the sophomore version of Cat now.
JeremyHParticipantThey just threw Warren to the floor.
JeremyHParticipantThis felt way too much like a Duke game.
