Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantFrom Mike, “This team can be beaten. Good adjustments at the half and tackle better and we have a shot.”
When have you seen State make good adjustments at the half and tackle better?

Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantWell gurus, what is the verdict? Didn’t see the game until just now after watching the recorded version. Seems like the same old stinky stuff. Defense maintains mid-season form by giving up huge plays throughout the game. And aren’t you tired of seeing running backs flying through the line and down the field untouched? Can’t get off the field either. GSU seemed to have one long drive after another.
To give the D some credit, holding the Eagles to field goals probably won the game. Also – no turnovers except Jacoby’s INT and penalties were not a factor. Especially liked that there weren’t any of the stupid kind like personal fouls and such.
Can only get better…

Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantIt was great while it lasted – We’ll be seeing Buckets in a pro uni next year. Can’t blame him with all the $ out there.
It will be interesting to see what sort of team State has next year. I know the recruits are supposed to be hot, but you never know until they show at school or even actually get in to school.
But, congratulations to Coach Got and the Wolfpack. They certainly exceeding most fans expectations for the ACC this year.

Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantOf course, the TV guys will not give State any credit for the in-bound pressures. It has to be that Duke has let off the gas…

Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantShoot 68% for the half & still down by 1. The difference is Duke’s 3’s. Somehow State has to counter the 3. You have to figure the shooting % will come down too.

Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantHey Bill @ the Beach – Don’t know that the BC coach is a “ChessMaster” compared to our guy.
Not being a coach, and having looked at games for 50 years, it just seems we want to make the game harder than it really seems. As a coach it would seem you decide on a system, recruit the best players you can, and coach them up to how you want them to run your system. When game time comes it is the coaches job to continually make adjustments throughout the game — calling defenses, shuffling players in and out. Most importantly, whether ahead or behind you have got to make adjustments and try to anticipate what the opponent is going to do and be ready to counter them.
What am I missing?

Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantI’m no coach, just an observation…Coach Got seems to have trouble countering adjustments made at half-time by the opposition…

Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantIn addition to the Seniors are we seeing TJ’s last home game too? I just wonder how much more he believes he needs to prove at the college level…

Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantRegarding the turnovers, Duke plays an agressive pressure defense, which puts the other team on the “defensive” so to speak. In my view, they have always gotten away with too much body contact, elbowing, and hand checking, that should be called as a foul instead is considered “good” defense. Then when the other team tries the same tactic on Duke, Rat Face screams bloody murder and the refs respond accordingly with the charge calls, etc.

Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantThe one time Cat drove the lane in last few minutes it resulted in a basket. Other then that one drive and an occasional fast break the offense is one or two passes around the three point line and then jack it up. No one is position for offensive rebounds or put backs.
Looking at it on TV you can’t tell if these are coaching issues or if the players aren’t coachable.
Based on the UVA and Wake games I’m thinking it is going to be another tough season…

Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantCoach Gott was very descriptive and accurate of the teams play (or lack of it) against UVA. However, despite all of the many deficiencies that he pointed out in the post game interview I failed to hear any reasons why. All I heard was a fix for the next game — the nebulous better coaching, better playing, yadda, yadda, yadda. Did anyone else hear a real reason why the team played so badly?
Sure, the guys are young. And you can’t make open shots that hit the rim go in. But even first and second year players should be able to run the offense that the coach wants. They need to quit thinking about their NBA tryouts and just run the offense, be monster rebounders, and defend like wolves.

Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantWhat are these guys afraid of? It’s just Virginia, for Pete’s sake. Did the Coach run them today before the game? They act like they don’t want to be there. I thought playing in big time games is all these guys wanted to do.

Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantCNN’s analysis sadly is what many have thought was the case at many schools, not just UNC-CH. Institutional denial to a newspaper article is not surprising, frankly you would expect it. Coach Roy’s comments however, show to me that he is out of touch with the issue when he questions the validity of the article and denies that the school has accepted student-athletes with such low academic capabilities. Can someone explain his statement about allowing any of his players to look after his grandchildren? The question here is not about the content of the student-athlete’s character. The question concerns their academic accomplishments and ability to do college level work while playing a physically and time demanding sport.

Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantDon’t understand not getting the ball to TJ at the during the last part of the game. No scoring from him in last 12 minutes.
Missed free throws always come back to haunt. Could have one if made a better %.
Gosh – there were 4 Freshman playing serious minutes against a top 25 team. They will learn.
It will be interesting to see how many 1-1’s Cat misses here on out the rest of the year.
In the end, State does not have a match for those animals they had playing guard. Those guys are good.

Jacksonville, FLJaxPackManParticipantAs State Alums/Fans we can’t help but look over yonder at Orange County Trade School and chuckle at least a little about all the troubles they are having in the Athletics Dept. Most of us have likely wondered how they could continue to be so good for so long without cheating and now we know what the definition of “The Carolina Way” really is.
We can’t help but compare how the NCAA has dispensed punishment to the pastel blue and how the Wolfpack was dealt with. Admittedly, without knowing all the details judgements are difficult to make. But if nothing else the press basically crucified State and never seems to let the world forget. Given what has been found to date, the penalties seem light comparatively speaking to other school’s situations. Although the head of the school and athletic department paid the price and perhaps a few other lower level administrators are gone, the press seems to be letting UNC off kind of light.
Sadly, unless someone keeps stirring the scandal pot, this whole thing will be forgotten in a few years.
