Leaving before Leslie, Brown, Purvis, deThaey, Lewis, Washington, Lacey, Tyler Harris, Jaqawn Raymond, Painter.

Leslie, Brown and Lacey left for the pros, which is not a negative for the program. The only remaining names of consequence are Washington and Painter. The rest couldn’t hack it either through lack of skill or attitude, or a combo of the two. Add to the list Harrow, who he rightfully steered elsewhere.

So Gott has lost 2 players worth a damn. When compared to other coaches, this is not a red flag.

Wait, you think leaving early for the pros and not actually making the pros is a good thing for NCSU? Really?

Leslie and Brown are the only two that left early for the pros and both were drafted. You think that’s negative? Brown is getting NBA contracts. That’s negative? Equating players going professional as “transfers” is incorrect and appears to be an attempt to put the HC and the program in a bad light. Why would you want to do this?

CD is right on the money.

“Leave” is an ambiguous term. Break it down b/w transfers and leaving early for the NBA. Then break it down to the quality that we’re missing from these transfers.

Btw; the “player transfer garbage” refers to a recent troll thread that was thankfully shut down.

Things are getting silly around here. Is it the planetary alignment that brings out the nervous nellies?

Probably the 0-5 record combined with the downward trend in recruiting. But feel free to call everyone who disagrees with you a chicken little (I remember those same remarks about herbie).

Disagreements are fine, but silly stuff like unfounded player transfer garbage being deflected onto the coach are ridiculous.

There’s no comparison b/w Gott and Herb. Light years away from each other.

Also, not catching Duke at a particularly good time as they’ve lost three in a row. It may be that they aren’t any good. But they are going to bring the energy Saturday, and we need to match it.

Need to rebound and hit shots of course, but will also need to remember we’re playing 5 on 8.

Seems like every time Capitol Broadcasting’s carriage contract comes up for renewal they try to play hardball and roll out their “we’re a family company versus a mean ole billion dollar enterprise” line to the public. Did it a few years ago, doing it now.

Truth is, CBC is as much a “family” business as SAS is.

They want a cut of that AT&T money.

Wasn’t impressed by UNC. They barely beat us, and if we had another capable scorer we would have won that game. As challenged as we are talent-wise, we could have beaten all of those prize UNC recruits if Barber had someone to pass the ball to.

    * 3 of the players didn’t have their jersey tucked in before the game and Anya had his sweats down below his a$$ cheeks. That told me they weren’t taking it serious, that this wasn’t a business trip and they weren’t being held accountable for discipline and representation of the school.
    * On the first 6 possessions (WF and Pack combined), Abu missed a gimme layup, committed a turnover, shot a baseline 10 footer with a 6’3 man on him and committed a foul. He should’ve been subbed for immediately (and yes he is one that didn’t have his jersey tucked in.)
    * All of our shooters float sporadically on their jump shots. On a jump shot, you’re suppose to be jumping straight up or slightly in. Ours guys jump to the left, to the right or backwards. That’s why our shooting percentage is horrendous (looking at you Mav and twin A). Cat Barber is the only one who shoots in rhythm. Simple mistakes that are fixable.
    * Our bigs play defense with their hands and not their feet. That’s why their constantly in foul trouble.
    * Those other guys on the bench have to play. FEET TO THE FLAME!!
    * Cat Barber obviously put in the work over the summer with someone. Why didn’t everyone else?
    * These guys need to be on a 2 to 5 ft. leash and be held responsible. I’m afraid their roaming free around the yard….

I disagree on several points here. I don’t necessarily equate jersey tucking with caring or being prepared. I also don’t equate that with a team that’s not held accountable. Seeing things like that and drawing negative conclusions is pure speculation. But moving on to the game:

*Who should sub for Abu that early on? Freeman? At least with Abu you’ve got a chance at a gimme layup; or if he’s fouled, a chance to make a FT or 2. The bench is extremely short.
    *Floating jumpers – no disagreement.
*We are short-staffed in the front court and the ones we have aren’t all-stars. They give it effort, but it’s things like foot movement that separate the “capable,” “good,” and the “greats.” Right now, we’ve got borderline capable. At least they can rebound and block. Connect on a few more put-backs and we’re in business.
*Again, our bench is short and Kirk is not ready as evidenced in the Michigan game. Stick him in any ACC game right now with significant minutes and a small deficit turns into double or triple b/c you completely lose any and all offense and defense on both sides of the court. It’s not worth his feet getting burned to lose any chance we have of winning a game – and we’ve had the chance to win each ACC game we’ve lost. Despite all the places this team lacks on the court, if the guys could somehow improve FT shooting we could steal some games. FTs definitely would have won the VT game, as well as against Louisville, and it’s only one aspect of the game. That’s how close this team is to breaking through.

^Thank you for the above post, JasonP! It is the best one I have read in a while. There have been several posts about apathy setting in among us and not as many posts. It is not apathy, it is boredom with the same old crap about how Gott can’t coach and doesn’t know how to run a program. And can we hurry up and hire Archie. Jeez. It is true we are not good enough to compete with the top teams in the conference this year but that shouldn’t stop you from pulling for your team. That includes not trashing them day after day, including the coach. And actually, I’d say things are looking pretty good for next year, despite all the dire warnings about the program spiraling to the depths.

Heelh8r, if I could “like” your post, I would. On the bright side, and thankfully, there’s a lot of Pack fans that feel the same way.

This forum is the only place I hear anyone ever talking about Gott getting fired. No State fan I know, including several WPC donors, has any inclination toward making a HC change in the program. It’s frustrating to come here and see this type of talk gain traction especially when paired with hoping and dreaming for the next flavor of the month HC candidate. Thankfully there are voices of reason in the ‘hood.

Yall need to realize Gott is the best bball coach we’ve had since V – who was forced to resign in 1990. Short memories forget all about the dungeon of the 90s and 00s, which unfortunately contaminated State’s fan base with extreme pessimism and a loser mentality. Gott is the first one to elevate this program from the garbage heap we wallowed in for 20 years (think about that for a minute). His effort should be rewarded with patience and support, even in difficult seasons like this one.
