Well, if there’s any more good news coming out of this, the Pack tends to finish any given season (over the last 10-15 years, at least) inversely proportionate to the preseason predictions. Can’t imagine they’ll be picked above the median next season, so we’ve probably got a mildly pleasant surprise in store by next March.
And agreed, until we get past draft declaration season and next year’s conference schedule, too soon to draw any major conclusions.
04/08/2014 at 3:51 PM in reply to: TJ Warren declares for NBA draft; future of NC State basketball #50940ILPackfanParticipantIf the rising sophomores grow into their potential (judging from the latter part of this season), the Pack could be a pretty balanced team. Although I still have some concerns about ball distribution and outside shooting. But hey, I’ve had those concerns pretty much since about 1991.
ILPackfanParticipantTo quote Golenbock’s own website:
“His next book, Personal Fouls, took a look at the corruption of college basketball in general and in specific through the program at North Carolina State University as it was run by the late Jim Valvano…. Its publication helped spark a revolution in college athletics with educators and administrators passing rules to try to insure that college athletes leave school with an education and not just a pile of press clippings.”
Bang-up job there, Pete. Yep, no need to write about the school in Chapel Hill; we had ourselves a revolution. Well, one half-assed book based on almost entirely one source nursing a grudge doesn’t make for a revolution.
ILPackfanParticipantBest wishes, Buckets, and thanks for this memorable season.
ILPackfanParticipantBased on observing Dez’s penchant for dribbling himself into trouble in the lane, I’d be a little leery of seeing him at the point. The issue as I see it is finding a guard who can A) spell Cat for stretches and run the offensive effectively, and B) maintain enough of a credible shooting threat from outside that the defense can’t leave them alone.
I think Tyler’s departure leaves us in a lurch for pure ball handling and distribution (and I’m counting his performance against St. Louis as an aberration). While I think Cat will improve significantly in that regard, I don’t know who the heck is going to pick up the slack when he’s not on the floor.
03/25/2014 at 1:54 PM in reply to: National Media Outlets Say “TJ Warren To The NBA” But TJ Says “Undecided” #49558ILPackfanParticipantGlad to hear Buckets is taking some time to consider everything. My hunch is that it depends on his current stock (which is, to put it mildly, very high) versus the draft position. If it’s lottery this year, then there’s pretty much no chance of seeing a junior season from him.
On the other hand, if it looks like a mid-to-late first round position in this year’s draft, he could bank on having a comparable season next year and (I’d think) virtually guarantee going as a lottery pick in that draft.
ILPackfanParticipant“And nobody leaves practice until the team drains 10 free throws in a row.”
I really like that suggestion. Add in pushups and/or laps for every time in practice somebody loses their man or cheats over to allow an uncontested jumper.
ILPackfanParticipantAnyway, I’ve vented, I hope to hell the guys still on the team next year remember this feeling so they can make sure it never happens again. Oh, and learn how to break a damn press in the offseason.
Good night, folks.
ILPackfanParticipantAbsolutely frustrating. Would rather have seen us blown out. And I don’t know that I put this on the coaching staff–they weren’t the ones at the line bricking free throw after free throw. I’m glad the effort was there until the very end, but that’s about the only positive I’m taking out of it.
ILPackfanParticipantSo far, it looks like Donahue is being joined by Jeff Bzdelik (resignation) at Wake Forest and James Johnson (fired) at Va Tech. I wonder if Johnson is rethinking his decision to reneg on the Clemson job to replace Uncle Fester.
ILPackfanParticipantLot of contributions last night. That’s what they’re going to need to keep doing if the kids want to keep winning this week. I hope Barber is over his flu by tomorrow.
ILPackfanParticipantGreat game, love the team play this evening. Good night, gents.
ILPackfanParticipantBring on St. Louis!
ILPackfanParticipantAye, JeremyH, she’s a fine one, indeed.
ILPackfanParticipantOkay, a little too cutesy right there.
ILPackfanParticipantThere’s a stat for you. TL has 7 assists to this point. Xavier has 6 as a team. Good game.
ILPackfanParticipantFantastic give-and-go from Lewis to Vandy.
ILPackfanParticipantHey, congrats to Buckets–new NCSU single-season scoring record @ 840 points.
ILPackfanParticipantWow! Nice breakout there!
ILPackfanParticipantIs that four fouls on KH?
ILPackfanParticipantYeah, it seems like TJ is putting himself in position to pick up a cheap one the last couple of plays.
ILPackfanParticipantI think Chris Mack just answered at least part of the question. Run the offense better. Also, I’m thinking they try to bait Buckets into a quick foul.
ILPackfanParticipantI suspected as much, but I didn’t want to assume. Thanks, brother.
ILPackfanParticipantDecent game thus far, not many boners on either end. Worked around a so-so first half and two fouls from Buckets. If they can keep the fouls down in the second half and improve the shooting a bit, we can make it to Orlando on Thursday.
