Holy crap, bermuda WILL grow on concrete…Seeded the back yard Wed through Friday of the past week and kept it watered through Thursday when my daughter and family got back from a trip to Carolina Beach..Bermuda has “taken off”
Yogi, got conflicts with the gypsum utilization too. Still haven’t done it because I wanted to stay off the seed while it was germinating..but a solid dose of that for a couple of years should really help. No septic involved…might try adding some to mine this fall..

highstickParticipantGood post, Yogi…and also a good comment on UNC-W…one of my high school teammates played there while a Jr. College, signed and played with both Kansas City and Cleveland in the Big Show…First game up against Boston, he went 2-3 against Jim Lonborg(and I think he won the Cy that year). To this day, I can still say that he was the only person who ever hit a homerun off of me in organized baseball…But then, I only pitches 6 innings over a number of years….but still, I can say that!!! Along with harassing the kid that I struck out twice in that same game!

highstickParticipantCHICKEN BIG! BIG! BIG! BIG!
YEEEEHAH! Those guys are special! Can’t wait to get me a shirt! HA!
Stick, I grew up in Loris. Not sure if you knew this but I played catcher too! I was really tickled for David Parrett, he should have gotten a share of best player. He sure came through in the hard part of that 3 game winning streak that it took to get them into the finals.
Loris Hospital System was one of my client’s for a while. Yep, I knew you were an ex-player who “toiled in the dirt on his knees”. I’m happy for them…Both the Big Chicks and the Little Chicks have something that the Tiggers don’t have!
I was “unfortunate enough to have spent 14 years in Florence…Had a client in Florence that had a band that played at the Ocean Forest back in the day. Mark Herndon would finish up drumming for Alabama at the Bowery and then ride his bicycle down to the Ocean Forest to play with them cause he couldn’t afford gas money. This was before the time that they were discovered and changed their name.

highstickParticipantOuch! Took a lot of hard knocks behind the plate, but never that way! Batter hit me in the jaw with the bat and ripped my mask off. Glancing blow or I’d probably be dead. I’d warned the sucker to quit screwing around with his feet in the batters box several times before cause it was a teammate of mine in batting practice. When I got up, they had to drag me off of him!

highstickParticipantummm Chop, not sure “pretty blue collar” is an apt description of the area. True there are many blue collar types down that way but it’s proximity to Myrtle Beach brings in a very wide variety of “folks”. While it’s not a techie haven like the triangle is, it is a mish mash of retirees (of all sorts), home growns of every description from the intellectual elites down to true trailer park trash, and the myriad for those drawn to “live and lie on the beach”. I grew up 20 miles from the actual beach and I’m amazed at the transformation that has taken place down that way. Much like the triangle has been morphed due to what could be considered “outside influences”, so has Horry County, pronounced oh-REE, (home of the Chants). Visitor and real estate taxes have built some of the best schools in the country.
LOL…You left out the Canadians, Yogi! I’ll give Coastal credit as they have supported developing their athletic programs. A friend of mine was Board chair for a number of years. And there was, and still is, some trailer park trash with money in that area, aka, Gallivant’s Ferry and Aynor. At one point I really considered combining with another of my partners and buying out the Myrtle Beach and Florence practices from our firm, but 54 holes of golf, several beers, and really paying attention to the Grand Strand traffic in June convinced me to decline. I still had a number of clients in that area until I transferred in 1999. Where did you grow up? I grew up less than 2 hours away back in the old days when you could drive on the beach in OD(and it was still called OD), see the Bama guys at the Bowery and buy 15 cent draft beers.

highstickParticipantSure looked like he was out at first, but it didn’t matter.

highstickParticipantStick, go to a seed & feed and buy gypsum (calcium sulfate). It comes in 50 lb bags like fertilizer. Use a bag every 10,000 sq ft for very dense soil. Instant softening of hard pan soil. Makes it easier to water too (soil actually absorbs water). If you need more it’s easy to add more later. best thing in the world for clay type soil.
I am going to add some of that. Didn’t know a bag would cover that much though. I told my SIL that bermuda would grow on concrete though. Especially when you don’t want it there.

highstickParticipantI guess I’m gonna have to pull for the “Little Chicken Chandeliers”. Beats the heck out of a team named the “Little Putty Tats wearing Urange Lampshades”!

highstickParticipantI’ve gone to the raised beds too, Yogi. Much easier to water and control weeds. Actually have two peppers growing in big containers inside the raised bed so I can move it around. We just need water here! I doing something heretical….trying to establish bermuda in my daughter’s backyard from seed. They built a new house last fall and the builder sodded the front in bermuda and threw down fescue seed in the back. Ground was too hard, in fact, we had to get a fellow with a pulverizer to break up the soil in the back yard. They are at the beach this week so I’m watering but sure could use some relief with rain!

highstickParticipantI am eatin’ mater sammiches!

highstickParticipantI knew he and Mike Caldwell were teammates. They wore the “white hats with the red S”…I know that carried over from the Vic Sorrel era.
Wilder was a year after, and I was 2 years late.
"Whomp 'em, Up, Side the Head"!
highstickParticipantThink they laid 70 on them two years ago and I was yelling for 80 just to get even for some of their baseball trash talk a few years before.
Actually no problem with the school at all. Have a few friends that are grads and one that served as Board Chair.
LOL, I posted that just to set you up for a retort Stick. Sorry I didn’t catch that sooner. While Chandeliers is funny the guys from Coastal really do detest “Chicken Little”. I have a cousin who’s son was on the football team a few years back and when I relayed my story about the athletes I knew from my days there hating that term his reply was “We still do!” The expression on his face when he said it was priceless.
"Whomp 'em, Up, Side the Head"!
highstickParticipantI missed that and saw his obit in the Charlotte paper today. One of Wilder’s older mates, right? Seems like you told me that he graduated before you “arrove”.
We discussed Mr. Cammack in the Regional Thread.

highstickParticipantNext time the “chicken littles” come to Cola to play football, watch out for 80 on the scoreboard. I actually call them the “Chandeliers”!

highstickParticipantPlywood…if you can grow a garden like Butchart, we’ll take all of the advice you can give. Awesome place! You do avoid the extreme cold temps in Victoria. Seems like I recall you were close by??
BTW, I plucked my first Poblamas over the weekend and have a few maters, yellow and zuchinnis. Grew some garden peas and got several meals out of a fairly small planting.

highstickParticipant^ I had that initial thought too, then realized with Miami weather, it’s just an extravagance, IF you’re not factoring in the keeping up with the Joneses angle. In the past, it was far from a necessity, or even an important ‘want to have’.
On the very rare occasion Miami has weather that’s bad enough to keep them from practicing outdoors, there’s a good chance it’s bad enough to keep them from practicing indoors.
But then, nowadays, it does matter per image and the arms race thingy.
It sorta rains every day in the late summer in Florida…you just never know “what time”…why should the boys in Knoxville get to practice in nice cool weather when the Himmicanes are dying in the heat, humidity, and rain.
Jeez, you guys that all these “new players” want to be coddled and it’s all about “fucilities like Lee said”…

highstickParticipantAfter going to the Willie Nelson concert last week and observing Willie from the front row, I would not be surprised to see him pass on very soon. Man, he was struggling with emphysema…
"Whomp 'em, Up, Side the Head"!
highstickParticipantI planted a spicy hot bell pepper and it’s growing…also have a few poblamas growing. Planted those in pots just to see. My local supplier in Rock Hill never has gotten any reaper plants and I haven’t made a trip to Fort Mill…I may bypass those cause production was horrible last year.
Squirrels and birds pluck the green bean sprouts faster than my wife can plant them. Tomatoes, cukes, squash and egg plant are growing well so far. Red and green bell peppers are growing, but not much fruit yet.
Bill, my wife’s roommate in school was from Morehead. Used to tell me in the best High Tider accent that “Tide’s so high, can’t go crabbing, gotta go dig taters”! Speaking of which, headed to Morehead the first week in June to try to catch some “fishes”…I understand the spanish are biting near the Cape.

"Whomp 'em, Up, Side the Head"!
highstickParticipantNow wait a minute, CD…I taken a leak off the side of a mountain(and then fell), but were you “shot off the cliff” or did you take a “shix” off the cliff?
BTW, I’ve got two front row tickets with Willie Nelson next week…I supposed that close enough that I won’t need “anything”???
"Whomp 'em, Up, Side the Head"!
highstickParticipantHeard this earlier today..Fred and Frances were from my “original era” at State…Think they were freshmen my soph year. Good people and really sorry to hear this.

highstickParticipant^IF he flapped…if.
FU×# yes! …and he’d be out the door. Willis Casey, cheaper than any AD known to man (you want cheap, McCallum? You don’t know cheap.), also owner of God knows how many titles, would have yanked Abu’s schol in a heartbeat.
Willis used to make the swim team share one bathing suit…

highstickParticipantI suspect none of these games will ever happen as scheduled…We will be on probation for having “NC” in our name even though we didn’t do anything..
