Yea, but I’m having fun doing it…Plus I don’t have to wait for them to get me “on their schedule”.
Laying the last bag of lime right now…Am I nuts or am I the only one that likes the smell of it..
Got any tips to kill poison ivy in my azaleas. If I spray, I kill the azaleas…Paintbrush to the leaves with Roundup?

Bill, my feet hurt!!! Got everything out today on the front yard except for one remaining bag of lime, DAP, and mineral…Will finish that tomorrow morning before the tractor/tiller comes…I thought I heard my soil saying “bring on the zoysia sod” one time this afternoon..Will be taking pictures to record “history”..
Can’t believe I left your place at 1:30 and I was back home at 5:30. Didn’t stop, but sure had to empty the bladder when I got back.

·
· BEING A FARMER IS TOUGH!
A farmer was selling his peaches door to door. He knocked on a door and a shapely 30-something woman dressed in a very sheer negligee answered the door.
He raised his basket to show her the peaches and asked, “Would you like to buy some peaches?”
She pulled the top of the negligee to one side and asked, “Are they as firm as this?”
He nodded his head and said, “Yes ma’am,” and a little tear ran from his eye.
Then she pulled the other side of her negligee off asking, “Are they nice and pink like this?”
The farmer said, “Yes,” and another tear came from the other eye.
Then she unbuttoned the bottom of her negligee and asked, “Are they as fuzzy as this?”
He again said, “Yes,” and broke down crying.
She asked, “Why on earth are you crying?”
Drying his eyes he replied,
“The drought got my corn, the flood got my soy beans, a tornado leveled my barn, and now I think I’m gonna get fvcked out of my peaches.”Awesome…the heck with zoysia and tomatoes. I’m growing peaches!

That’s a fact. Makes a pretty infield skin, though.

I unless I just plant it in soybeans for the summer, plow it under and start over with fescue in the fall.
Got my report from Bill, now I have to interpret. Sure is a good thing that Cowdog isn’t in the ag business…You’d never interpret him!

Green is green, and ya mow when the shooters get a little higher than the blades…Right? To make you happy, CD, I bought some Reapers and some Ghosts today to plant in the garden…My local guy had sold out of the Reapers last year before I got there. Put some peas in, planting a few maters and some cukes this weekend and am playing with some other peppers from seed in the greenhouse.
12 more cabinet doors and I’ll be through with this kitchen renovation…

I agree with what a lot of you are saying about centipede or St. Aug…Except for the 3 years I had a house in Raleigh and the last 18 in Rock Hill, that’s all I ever had because I lived in Eastern NC, then Low Country of SC. Only problem I had with it in Beaufort, SC was keeping the Live Oak leaves off of it.
I don’t remember it, but helped my Mom sprig the yard of our first house back when I could barely walk. Then later sprigged most of the second house in 57 after my Dad got sick and died. Mowed the first yard which was about 1 1/2 acres with a push mower. Mom finally bought a gas mower with the second house.

When I showed up the station manager assigned me to cover a court case in town. Seems a deputy and one of his friends had attempted to castrate a feller that had told the revenue agents where the deputy and his friend had some stills hidden and they had taken exception to his actions. This was 1975. The manager saw disbelief on may face and as I started to ask a question he cut me off and said “No, I’m not kidding.” I told him that sounded like a bad movie (Dueling banjos came to mind). That day I started looking for a job elsewhere and I was gone in less than a month.
BOTB and CD, we got down to 35 this AM but no frost thankfully. My apple tree is full of blooms!
Thanks…I’m going round and round with myself about zeon or zenith. Zeon was not on the price list that Super Sod gave me unless it’s disguised as their “new Leisure Time Zoysia” which is the most expensive that is about $90 more per 500 sq feet pallet. I’m going to go back to their store in Pineville this week and talk to them about zeon sod availability. Since I’m going to only do the front yard this year, I’ve tossed around the idea of sodding the area where my yard has some slope and rim the edge of the rest with sod, then seed the middll just to experiment. If I buy 6 pallets, I can get about a $30/pallet reduction in the price for the sod…Still not totally sure, but I started with the Roundup this afternoon. Gotta get my tiller tuned up so it goes to the shop tomorrow.
Hopefully Bill will send me a soil test back that says “good dirt” even if it’s not that black tobacco farm dirt from Eastern NC. Never will forget the first time I went to Pitt County when all of the fields had been disked up. I grew up in the Sandhills and also was familiar with clay, but I’d never seen such black soil in all my life.

04/07/2017 at 8:12 PM in reply to: It's Time to Plow and Time to Plant — Spring 2017 Garden Thread…. #122363highstickParticipant“The Book” says do not sod when the grass is dormant, but actually it works great. Nothing wrong with doing it in the spring when it is ready to grow though. That is the conventional way. I have used Zenith, but ZEON is the one that is most recommended and most popular, and also most expensive.
While what I have read since the Zeon variety was mentioned and I did a little research, none of you guys specify the soil type or where you’re having such good results. From what I’ve read in the last couple of days, it does have a deeper root system which is very appealing to me because of the bermuda intrusion that I’m having in my fescue and makes sense that it would be very drought resistant. But, I live just south of Charlotte and while my soil is pretty good, it still is clay based and we’ve been subject to drought over the past few years.
I’ve talked to Supersod about Zenith(both sod and seed), but apparently Zeon is “only sod”…Not a bad thing assuming, I can sod part of the yard and plug with Zeon plugs that I can cut from sod. Zeon seems to be more aggressive and spread faster. I have no intention of sodding dormant sod though. I’m gonna check with Super Sod next week and check on the pallet price. I’m intending on doing this myself as my yard really isn’t that yard, I’m retired and have time, but I see this as a 2 year process(front yard in the first year, back yard the second which is smaller).
What advice given these facts?

First game I ever remember watching was the 57 title game in B&W I cannot remember if he watched or not. While I’d love to have my Dad back, I’m sure that he would be appalled at UnC and the cheating. I don’t blame UnC for killing him with mustard gas treatments, but neither he nor I have ever condoned the holier than thou UnC politicians. Seems like he ran against and fought more than a few back then too because of their arrogance!

I have a number of close friends and co-workers who are Unc grads….I don’t acknowledge Walmart “fandom” so I don’t conodone those types. Some think it’s been an abomination, some think it’s all contrived and never happened like the Holocaust. The fact is that none of them are marching in the streets saying “Carolina Blue Lives Don’t Matter”…They acknowledge “something happened” but they won’t stomp their feet until the BOG does something…So they are still thrilled about “tonight”.
I can’t go there. I won’t watch, I may check the score, but it’s hoping they are getting their cheating asses waxed! Hoping “Good wins over Evil” tonight!

highstickParticipantYou guys are starting to sound like PackPride!
Yes, I am PCUSA, but those two fags that want to sit in the middle are being watched very carefully…If they kiss, I’ll be a Methodist again…My wife and I compromised in the Pres Church before we understood this schism in the Pres Church. I was Methodist, she was a convoluted Baptist/Episcopal(cause her parents couldn’t agree and went to church on Hillsborough St where they could ride together and then walk across the street to their respective churches),
Believe me I’ve put my wife on notice and if our local church steps in the wrong direction, I’ll be anything but a PCUSA. I don’t wear a tie to church and only wear a coat when it’s cold enough and that’s rare.
As long as these women want to cook and do the children’s sermon, I’m ok…But if the two guys want to do that…NOT!

Also do any of you have any experience with Zenith cause I’m not sure we’re talking apples and apples.

Moldboard plow
Turn plowback home… the top plow was called a bottom plow…
In the Piedmont… this is called a “harrow”…
Down East …. it’s called a disc…
My Dad has been dead since 58, but some of the guys who knew him in his younger days on my Granddad’s farm said he could take the “mule version of that and plow the straightest line that you’ve ever seen”.

The “moldboard/turn plow” — a little used relic of the past!
A good Field conditioner, which was unheard of back in the day, would have been faster…But your story is a good example of what “Farming” used to be…
Nowadays … all the “new” farmers learn “Farming” out of a book or online, not in the field, not at the barn, not at the store…
I had to look that one up…Seen it in use before, but didn’t know what you called it.https://www.deere.com/en_US/products/equipment/tillage_equipment/primary_tillage/moldboard_plows/moldboard_plows.page

I’m also going to send you a free lightly used book on Tobacco Diseases by an NC State prof from the mid 70’s era. You can use it as a door stop or cut open the pages and hide you concealed Glock inside. He gave it to me during my brief stint in the NC tobacco seed breeding industry. Until then, I thought Black Shank was something that Charlie Sifford did with a golf ball.

There’s a minimum of a 10/1 ratio between the two and it takes years, not days to fully decompose…Even longer if you ain’t got soil microbes in abundant quantities in all four categories…
Besides you don’t know what steroids and hormones and other stuff they fed them horses…
