BTW, it was Bill who said this zoysia was “slow growing”! Holy crap, he sent me home with a truckload of “steroids for grass”. I actually hear it growing at night!

Nothing, and I mean nothing, gets the juices going like the thought of 3 a days in early August, in the Ol North State. Technically, it is now 2.5 a days.

The dread still resides, but once ya get thru week 1, week one is a forgotten memory.

Not! Not even 40+ years removed. Here’s to nobody croakin’ on day one. More so, here’s to no one s#÷t*^g themselves during back to back to back to back to back to back to back, timed 40s.

‘Cause when that happens, you wish you woulda croaked during timed miles.

And what kinda HR Derby discounts bombs skipping off the roof?

Jesushchristinasidecar, if Judge stays healthy, he might be the first billion dollar ballplayer. ?

I didn’t see the HR Derby, but jeez he was “bombing 500 yard drives)!

Agreed on the croakin’…I’m still recovering from a gas hedge clipper this morning…and a rake, and a lawn mower, and a couple of tanks of glyphosphate. But the worst part has been an eyelash in my eye that has driven me nuts all day!

I’m hearing the Wolfpack wants to wear black uniforms in this game…And give away the point spread? I don’t get this “black uniform” issue in the south in August/Sept…Haven’t they heard of global warming?

    Who is George Harrison?

freshmanin83, he was a wide receiver for the Colts. One of Peyton Manning’s favorite targets. When he and Peyton were locked in, it was beautiful. Hence all the talk about music.

Hmmm, I was thinking that his name was Marvin and that the only George connection would have been Jeff George who was traded for the pick used to select Marvin or err … George you say. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

All of you are wrong…He was P J Hairson’s brother by another mother!

‘Stick, it’s been weird spring for me following sport of all kind.
    1. Rodon is probably starting to feel the affects of the slider on his wing.
    2. Sammy Jr. woulda been someone’s HC years ago, if he wanted it, and or, he was sought.I know more about Sr’s condition.
    3. Rare is a kid that has the skill to lay one down.

Agreed on the “skill in bunting”…And probably why we practiced bunting so much in high school even with some good power hitters..but we also had some fast kids who ran track…

Wasn’t sure if Sammy, Jr. had the inclination. Not everyone wants to be in charge and on the hot seat…

What’s the latest on Rodon? Saw he was rehabbing in Charlotte a week or so ago…

CD, is Sammy, Jr. not head coaching material? Or just not ready yet? Been following Ray’s ordeal. I know that was tough on him personally to deal with Holbrook, but he really changed the make up of the norm for the Gamecocks…Kept wanting to bunt, but no one could bunt…

I met Bilas in CA at an LA Times party. What an arrogant prick, and that was 15 years ago. Had I met him in the early 80’s, his beak might resemble Bayless’s.

Moore and Van Allen were in the same building that we were in until a couple of years ago in Charlotte. Met a bunch of their attorneys, but never met or saw him…Would have loved to have “keyed” his car in the parking deck though…

I actually kinda like Bilas, but he is NOT a legal scholar folks. Yes, he has a point that is valid, but he is way too quick to allow UNC off the hook because academic irregularities (sounds so nice and simple when said that way) can’t be classified as “impermissible benefits”

First, that is total horsecrap! The players received “impermissible benefits”, regardless of what anyone says. Tell the NCAA to sack up and take another pass on that NOA.

Seriously, if all Louisville students received free sex (er, “physical irregularities”) at these parties, would it then be ok? Of course not! Also, if Pitino should have known, why shouldn’t at least one single UNC coach have known?

Sorry, but Jay Bilas seems way too quick to use to the letter of the law to give them a pass, rather than acknowledge the repeated cheating and use the letter of the law to identify where they violated the rules (regardless of the changing NOAs).

Come Jay, sack up and at least call it lack of institutional control.

I will promise you that there are “females” and other illicit things used to entice recruits and to keep players. Louisville was only “one of many”. It’s been going on for years…Jeez, even “Friday Night Lights” touched on that at the high school level.

Stick, I got 3 dogs and a wife that would use a gun on me if I bothered the sacred wabbits and squirrels. That’s their daily entertainment watching them. Lats year I got so tired of the squirrels planting corn all over my yard. I had it coming up all over until well into November.

I understand, but my wife is just as ticked off with the critters as I am. She does a lot of the garden work and she’d strangle a rabbit or squirrel with her bare hands if she could catch one.

I made the mistake of disposing of some old deer corn under a bird feeder a couple of years ago…Had corn stalks popping up all over the back yard the next spring.

Good rain last night and today…Seams in the zoysia are filling in really good. Bill’s chemicals must be working!

BTW, we finally got a mater this year. Keeping my fingers crossed cause I have not had any to freeze in 3 years. I even put a couple in my rose garden to fool the squirrels.

Two, count them TWO threats in the Atlantic. I remember a June hurricane named Agnes in 1972, nasty rain maker, messed up PA. Rode that one out in a van in the mountains of SC (Oconee State Park for stick, I’m sure he knows where that is). We had no idea it was coming and the tent was NOT hurricane worthy.

I think I must have been absorbed in finishing my final research and paper in my major that first session of summer school. And got married between the break between first and second session. I remember the name Agnes, but not details. Maybe she was another girl versus a hurricane???

I never have been to Oconee…too many people wearing Urange crap up there!

We need some rain too…Grass is doing well, but garden is struggling and the critters aren’t helping.. Stopped into the Gander Mountain close out today and picked up a new pellet rifle with a scope…When I get it zeroed, the wabbits and squirrels are gonna be hurting!

We had a neighborhood block party this afternoon and got a ton of comments on how good the yard looked and “what kind of grass is that”?

^Yep-also seems to be a banner year for snakes and ticks…

No kidding, when I started laying sod last week, I noticed a steady stream of little bugs crossing my sidewalk…then I realized they were those litte ass ticks…I stopped everything and sprayed with Sevin.

So far, no snakes…Most of our copperhead population stays at the lower end of our neighborhood, but danged it they don’t get big!

One things for sure for the game in Charlotte. The State fans will underestimate the Gamecocks and the Gamecock fans will underestimate the Wolfpack.

Danny Peebles will be talked about as well as the Russell Wilson KO..State will identify with Clempson because of being a Landgrant school and the Gamecocks will continue to hate on the team that more closely resembles UnC(but the State fans can’t figure it out).

You can take it to the bank!

Well, got me a helper Saturday and we finished laying the sod. Probably need about another 100 sq feet or so to finish. Getting ready to do the final rolling. Looking good and supposed to have rain today and tomorrow! I survived!

I’d thought about sand too…Good advice…on the sand and the weed control.

I wasn’t as sore this morning..reminds me of football camp in high school…it hurt less every day…

Sod “arroved” about 3 hours later than I’d hoped for yesterday afternoon, but started laying it as soon as it got here…I slept well last night to say the least. Got moving with more than a little bit of sore feet this morning, but went from about 9 to 1:30, came in showered, ate lunch and rested until about 3:30 and worked to 6. Think I’ve got the hang of laying sod now as my lines and seams are a lot better and it’s moving along.

Freakin’ kids must have more money than I did in high school. Tried to hire one of my neighbors two high school kids, but “no go”. I figured the girl would be a better option since she runs track, but she wouldn’t bite. One of my other State alum around the corner said I could use his yard man, but I had to go pick him up, feed him, then take him home. Screw dat! When I quit, it’s time to shower and drink a beer, not get my truck dirty taking him home.

At least wife is out of town so she’s not “telling me how to do it”!

Bill, with some of the thin gaps in the seams, should I fill with a compost mix, topsoil, or just keep it watered and not worry about it? Also, if I get any weeds popping up in the seams, what do you suggest to spray with?

Sod was very fresh though, just cut yesterday morning in Orangeburg, SC.

I think I worked harder getting the soil leveled out after the 4 1/2 inches of rain that we got a week or so ago. So far, weather is cooperating, not overly hot, cool nights, and even a little cloud cover at times.

…looking at about 5? so far down here since Monday am…
    but no wind…

thinking hopefully ’bout those up the road…

Mr. Stick, let that red clay dry out pretty good… then hit it with the rake lightly….
you don’t want to see your footprints every time you mow….

Got a bunch of rain this week. Hopefully things will dry out…Sod is scheduled to be delivered next Tuesday afternoon. I went with the Palisades variety. Actually, there’s another yard on the street behind me that did the same last year. Looks really good.

Well, the 2 1/2 inches of rain that we didn’t get week before last showed up with a vengeance since Sunday…Hope it will dry out over the weekend cause the sod is supposed to be delivered next Tuesday.

Mr. Stick… Are you toxic to holding a pen and signing a check… let the yard guys do it…

I’d go ahead and prune them Indicas hard too at the same time… it’ probably been years since you did that… and they will appreciate it….

I am my yard man!!! I’ve got an 84 year old retired Doc across the street from me that does it too!

Best $100 I’ve spent in a long time.1 1/2 hours, he tilled it 8-12 inches and cut it up 3 times with his John Deere and tiller. Funny, but the soil was only really compacted in about 2 spots that I thought were not compacted. Actually, he said the soil was pretty soft so that makes me feel alot better.

He wasn’t going to charge me but $85…

I got rid of poison ivy by cutting the plants at the ground. The vine will die and you can spray the new growth close to the ground. It might take more than one shot to kill it completely since the roots are probably well established. This method worked for me but I didn’t attempt it under azaleas. Use this suggestion at your on risk.

I’m extremely toxic with poison ivy…Poison oak rarely bothered me as a child, but I got into some poison ivy about 15 years ago and before I knew what was going on, both of my arms were really messed up. It’s so intertwined with the azaleas, I think it’s a lost cause. Sprayed some last year but it was killing the azeleas also.
