Entertaining piece by Bernie Reeves in The National Review
UNC, once thought the paragon of ACC athletic purity and prestige, is up to its waist in the sewerage of scandal directly related to the abandonment of recruiting standards for signing big money athletes in basketball and football. Yet the myth, called the Carolina Way, continued until just recently – that UNC (and the ACC) was above the tawdry athletic antics of an Auburn, or a Miami.
Bernie’s a Chapel Hill grad, but his article was pretty good…”some people” tried to overread and misinterpret in my opinion though. Bernie’s also a good friend with my bro in law who lives on the “left bank” but will be in Raleigh this week for a Broughton deal. I’ve sent him the article and will try to get him to pick his brain on a couple of comments. I actually have Bernie’s email address because we have a common interest…i.e. “Spying”!!!
If the article does nothing other than to point out some “of their own” are getting tired of it, it made a huge point…Except “they” aren’t the power brokers!

Gowolves…that’s generally what I’ve been doing with the same setup…seems like it takes a long long time though…I’ve been pulling off after a reasonable time with the smoke, put it in a big crock pot and when it’s done, it falls off the bone beautifully.
I know the crock pot or wrapping in foil turns some people off, but it really does work.

I listened to the Congressional hearing today on CSPAN radio with Emmert and several others. Emmert got hammered…You really need to go to CSPAN site and listen…they kicked him so bad that he may have to hammer the Holes to keep his job and NCAA relevance. He did get questioned about “why do we even need you” cause “you don’t seem to know anything”!!!
And the Senator McCaskill from Missouri kicked his butt about “sexual assaults on campus being handled by athletic departments.
He came off as a complete idiot and the two players(including the ex Tar Hell) came off well about their bad experiences…

I blame all my gardening problems this year on wabbits and weather…I want a Cherokee Purple so bad!!
The more I listen, the more I think “us Q cookers ain’t never gonna agree on anything” when it relates to cooking Q. And probably none of us can do it as good as “some old deceased fellers in Eastern NC that I used to know that would cook that stuff all day long and have it ready with a cold beer about 5:30.”
I have a friend who makes this big deal about his “secret family ingredient in his Q sauce”…Yea, right, like that’s BS…I’ve got one or two or three myself…I just don’t tell you which one and usually it’s inconsequential cause it cooks off and you never taste it…like a bottle of Blenheim ginger ale in the sauce…ooops…I slipped up…

I am curious what is the point of a raised garden?

The Weber grill looked to be more substantial that the Brinkman and thought it might hold the heat a little better. I had a Brinkman for a long time and smoked a ton of spanish mackeral, venison, and turkeys on it.
Where’s the rest of your egg? Under the table???
Someone sent me a posting on Facebook the other day about an accident with the BGE and he almost cut his finger off…not sure if it was design issue with the egg or just an idiot using it…

Not yet, Pak…my wife’s needs cutting because it gets in the way of my satellite dish. I think it’s in the fall, but will check.
My wife is balking at the cat cause she can’t get over it not being a “house cat”. The animal shelter even has a special section of “barn cats” for rodent control.
Speaking of “smoking meat”, anyone have any experience with one of the $299 Weber smokers? I’ve got a bunch of Home Depot gift cards and thought about getting one.

I think I’m gonna get an outside cat in a couple of weeks. Bill, BTW, that danged Southern contest is flawed…There is no such thing as “North Carolina BBQ” and you know it…Unless the western and the Lexington just don’t count at all! I also question sweet tea versus beer!

I’m still studying the Panther’s pick, but so far, so good. I hated losing Smitty, but a Sammy Watkins was not a replacement…Sammy’s got to so me more “meanness” and not just “catch and head to the sidelines”…During the postseason all star game, he did it, but generally never saw him do that while playing for Dabo…\\

Did the History of Technology course you guys are mentioning have a prior name or number in the School of Engineering? I took something like that in the spring of 65, but that was not the name at the time, although sounds like the same course content.

I had so many classes in Harrelson from 63-65 as a freshman and soph in Aerospace and from 70-72 in Econ that I couldn’t not even begin to total up the hours. I hated walking in circles so I’d just climb the stairs and honestly can’t remember a visit to the john there. I honestly hate to see the place go because it’s like part of your college culture being destroyed. First it was Riddick, then DH Hill, now Harrelson…At least Winston and some of those old buildings still are around.
CD, curious as to which “Philosophy Professor”? The Department Chair that was on Holtz’s selection committee? I thoroughly enjoyed his class and would concur that you weren’t going to change his mind! One of my wife’s cousins was his secretary for a while during the time you would have been there.
