Corn, in any form, except for maybe liquor, can set my diverticulosis off at any time…I’m gambling on the Brunswick Stew that I’m eating right now…

I personally prefer… anything that makes string management not a complete PITA.

I don’t really have any problem managing my “strings”… just put six new ones on my old “Tobacco Road” Strat the other day..

But in all seriousness… that’s a statement that fits this topic perfectly…

Let’s see how DD&Company manage the “first string”, the “second string” and the “third string” on both sides of the ball.

Show us some Ws…. that’s all we want.

You got a Strat too? Can’t say it’s a Tobacco Road, but I’ve got one too, plus a pre Fender Tacoma acoustic that’s my favorite.

Ok, Bill, you gotta ‘splain how you allow Carolina Treat Q Sauce to be brewed in the 28401 zip code? Looks very familiar to something with mustard in it, but I couldn’t find it on the label…

BTW, I’ve backed off the Kamodo Acorn and am leaning towards building my own Ugly Barrel Smoker…My Weber top fits perfectly on it…

Yoest, Ringwaith? Boy, did you hit that one right! He reminded me so much of Bill Sullivan who played guard on the 63 team. I moved into Alexander after it happened so I did not witness, but he ripped off/barreled through one of those huge solid wood doors off the hinges one night to get to my future roommate(RIP, so I won’t say anymore except Sullivan had a snootfull so I understand). Thank God, he was a School of Design student so I didn’t see him much…

Here, you go, CD..I’ll bet Yoest crapped in his britches!

Lou Holtz said he will never forget seeing offensive guard Bill Yoest spouting off in the N.C. State locker room after a practice during Holtz’s first spring as the Wolfpack’s coach.

Yoest, who didn’t realize Holtz was in the locker room, was complaining about the new coach.

The next day, Holtz took Yoest aside. Holtz told him what he’d heard in the locker room. Then Holtz said Yoest was right. The new coach was crazy.

“You’ve really got it figured out,” Holtz said he told Yoest. “These other guys aren’t as smart as you are. You keep it to yourself.”

Holtz said Yoest changed after that conversation. Yoest went on to become a team captain and a consensus All-American in 1973.

He is just one of the players Holtz loves to brag on from the four seasons (1972-75) he spent at N.C. State. During a phone interview Tuesday, Holtz reminisced about playing pickup basketball against the players and getting roughed up by Mike Devine, who made All-ACC as a defensive back in 1974.

“Johnny Evans, Ted Brown,” he said, rattling off the names of some of his favorites. “Good Lord, Pat Hovance, Pat Kenney, the Druschel brothers, Justus Everett. . . .Willie Burden, Charley Young, Roland Hooks, Steve Lester – who couldn’t run but always could get open.”

Holtz, 71, now works as a studio analyst for ESPN. He obviously has fond memories of his time at N.C. State, but doesn’t have much hope for the team this season.

“On paper this year, it looks like they’re going to struggle,” Holtz said.

His notes on the Wolfpack rustled in his hands. He saw that N.C. State returns just four starters on defense and lost all three linebacker starters.

He saw that the team might start a freshman at quarterback and has a new kicker. Holtz makes a nice income as a motivational speaker, but even he found it difficult to paint a positive outlook for the current team despite his fondness for the school.

“There isn’t a whole lot to be optimistic about there,” he said, “except for (coach) Tom O’Brien.”

Yep, Devine…we matched up good back then before I got big enough to play in the line…doubt he had a clue that he was trying to guard a 4 year Army vet…

Mozz and basil is a good pairing…

I think they changed the test and I’m sure I’m having some visual issues with those rectangles…they all look the same to me.

Ok, now you guys got me going to the Wayback Machine.

As mentioned that IM team wasn’t bad. We had no real height, though compared to the Homies from Pen.

    We were all Frosh,too.<br>
    It was Moi`, Buckey1,Buckey2,Lil’MikeHardy(Goldsboro fame),Pat Hovance,BJ Lyttle,and a couple of guys that transferred out.

So sad to think about Mike Hardy. You see,he went up to NYC to visit one of the guys on that vert IM team that summer, and…fell to his death, out the passenger window, while cruising the Holland Tunnel.

Uhmmm…On a brighter note, I is ass deep in ripe ‘maters.

In 72, we were playing Shaw, Mike?(the Dback), and I can’t remember the others.

I reffed a game back in 65 when Donnan’s team scored over a 100 with the “clock running” rules..

    Dukes! I guess I am a weirdo though…If I eat lettuce and tomato, it’s mayo…If I eat pickles, it’s mustard…and sometimes I mix both mayo and mustard..

But I don’t have either on my Q!

Redskins is not offensive. To anyone. Nobody cares about this except liberals that like to get their panties in a wad in their self-righteousness. They like to make an issue out of nothing, so they can irritate the you-know-what out of everyone.

I don’t even like the Redskins (grew up a Cowboys fan, now a Panthers convert). But I hope they keep their mascot because of all the history around it. It wasn’t about lynchings. It wasn’t about racial slurs. It is a football team mascot. Period. Nothing more, nothing less. And because it will irritate the liberals who are needlessly making a big deal out of nothing.

When one hears the term “Redskins,” they don’t think indians. They think FOOTBALL TEAM. If we’re all perfectly honest about it.

This is just a stupid matter. And I haven’t even weighed in on the government forcing this change. Essentially, that is what is happening. They know canceling the trademark will result in lost revenue for the REDSKINS organization, and likely lead to a mascot change. The government is trying to force something on the people that is unwanted and unnecessary (which is nothing new, since the same can be said for the Affordable Care Act).

This is just a political move. And a distraction from the other REALLY important things they are doing to us.

Agreed…just don’t call me a Tar Heel! Those are fighting words!

Just think, we could start calling the teams:

    1. The LA “Draft” Dodgers
    2. The Green Bay “Fudge” Packers
    3. The Carolina “Pink” Panthers
    4. The Dallas Cowboys from Brokeback Mountain

It gets ridiculous and stupid after while..This whole thing is nothing but a diversion to keep our minds off of the important stuff!

Maybe an old school Atlanta Crackers hat instead.

Wow! Someone else actually remembers that? I worked in Atlanta during the summer of 65 when the Crackers were still playing, Tommy Aaron played for the Crackers, and Hank and the Braves had not yet relocated…And Fulton County Stadium was brand new!

Funny, I took my grandson(11 months) to Cherokee, NC last week…Figured he was old enough to enjoy some of the “barely remaining Indian culture” in NC..Although, it probably bears to resemblance to the actual dances, “he got a real charge out of watching the Indians dance”.

And what comes out of the Indian’s mouth while trying to be cute….he starts singing Bing Crosby’s White Christmas and changed the lyrics….”I’m Dreaming of a White……..Woman”!

Later he says…”Don’t worry, we don’t scalp anymore”!!

Some thought Spurrier was washed up too…He and I are the same age and he’s far from being washed up…However, “Lou set the stage with the Gamecocks, Spurrier really ramped it up, what’s next???”

We just need some hungry coaches who are willing and able to put it together…And fan support…and money, and money, and money…I’ll just stop there…

I can remember a 6 pack of Schlitz at 88 cents, cigs at 16 cents, and gas was cheaper than the 16 cents.

    Honestly I’d prefer a regular SEC schedule…

Dude, it was like “night and day” for me after I returned from the Army. My first two years in Aerospace were a disaster…I was not prepared because I never had to “hit a lick” in high school to get grades, therefore I didn’t have a clue about how to study and manage time. 4 years in the Army during the 66-70 time frame straightened my butt out and I was fortunate enough to have qualified to go through the Defense Language Institute for about a year in linguistic training, I figured out the “studying and time management issue”…Let’s see “do I study or do I want to live with rats, mortar attacks, the jungle, and the like”?

I did it after the Army, then worked for 3 years, then back to get my MBA which was also a good experience.

As for the jokes, when I left State after the spring semester of 65, we had one girl’s dorm that housed about 25 students…Came back in 70 and there were girls all over the place. I know the shock on my face must have been obvious the night that I took a coed back to her dorm after a date in my apartment and she said “do you want to come up to my room for a while”? Times had certainly changed!!

“We’ve seen it for years, it’s not just the football team that does it and it’s not just at NC State either. It’s the difference between a Winner’s/Champion’s mindset and those who will never get over the proverbial hump.”

Absolutely and I cannot say “absolutely” enough! I know some of you don’t want to hear it, but I’ve watched a mediocre Gamecock football team “finally get” it over the past 15 years…This “mindset” shift comes from the coaches, players(players recruited) and fans! You “play” like you “practice and prepare” and if you want a winning program, you have to put out the effort every day of the season…That means “EVERYONE”!

Bet there’s 2 sides to this story too…like the LSU fan muttering things about “Bleaux Ball Tide Fan”…I detest LSU fans much worse than Bama!

Was having dinner in Gulf Breeze, FL on Friday night wearing a garnet shirt and was mistaken for a Bama fan who was being tormented by a bunch of Auburn fans at his table…He was looking for support. When he saw the Gamecock emblem, he realized he’d messed up! I told him, last time I saw you guys play in the Willie B, the Cocks beat you too!

I played against 2 eras of NC State football players in the intramural league, but I tried to stay out of the paint and shoot from outside. The time that I can remember going inside was against Joe Scarpati and his teammates back in the winter of 64. Little Joe and I got our feet tangled going after a rebound, I hit the floor and Don Montgomery(a big tight end)fell on me with my arm behind my back…3 days later, I could use it again. No broken bones, but it was numb for the better part of 3 days.

Our UPS team played the footballers(Shaw etal) pretty closely back in 71.

Then I graduated and played in the industrial league in Raleigh. Those games could really get rowdy. But, I just kept shooting from the outside…except for the rare “Earl the Pearl” spin move that was successful a few times…

    Cowdog say:
Anyone ever play with an intramural team in the prison gymnasium?

    Hoo boy!

Never played in the gym, but played a fast pitch softball game against the inmates at Jesup(MD) Federal Prison in the cell block when we were prepping for the 1st Army Championship back in 68. I caught most of the game, then went to left field around the 7th and was threatened with a knife not to catch anything that came close to me..Luckily nothing was hit in the air to me, but figured I could outrun the sucker until one of the guards in the tower could take him out with a rifle.
