Glad circumstances caused me to delay the garden this year. Travel, much too cool weather in April….however I got the better part of two yards of compost into my planter beds yesterday and will finish tomorrow morning, then get the plants for my wife to have “fun with”. then sneak over to Ft. Mill to grab a couple of those “Bad Boy Pepper” plants to try.
Ironically, I spied the first wabbit in my back door neighbor’s yard yesterday afternoon. Almost like they were lurking in the hedges ready to attack when I plant! Where can I get a drone that is armed with a pellet rifle and likes to attack wabbits!
Sure was nice to get home after being gone for 15 days and 10 minutes later one of my bud’s shows up with his big Kubota zero turn mower to cut my grass. His wife and daughter had gone to Churchill Downs for the week and he was bored! Their horse won the Woodford yesterday, but the Derby horse finished 7th.

Too cold and windy to be playing baseball in Chicago. Left there Tuesday AM and spent the night with snow flurries in Madoson, WI with a pack of badgers.

I got too wrapped up in finishing tax season today and didn’t make it to Ft. Mill to get the Reapers. Hopefully he’ll have 2-3 plants left when I get back from my trip and can get things seriously planted. We’re being invaded by the canker worms right now so I’m probably just as well off in delaying planting the garden.

Beats the heck out of listening to a Mike Leach and a ton of others out there…I’m convinced the sports programs are catering to the “Young and Dumb” versus the “Older and Wiser”. But, that’s just the way it is now!

I go with wheat straw and weeds before I’ll ever have another centipede lawn. I grew up sprigging that stuff in the two houses that my parents built..Had it in Beaufort, SC and Florence and just got tired of it. It is easy to maintain, but I just like green stuff…I don’t mind cutting it if I’m riding and drinking a beer either.
But, I have had a much smaller lot during the last 15 years so the mowing isn’t bad at all. The aggravating part has been not being able to aerate, fertilize, and reseed in the fall because of business travel…I’ve fixed that situation AGAIN…Last time I retired, I was out in the yard the next morning raking pinestraw thinking “is this retirement”???
Alpha, did you grow the Reapers from seed or plants? I may have to look for a couple of the plants tomorrow at the local farm and garden store. I used to park in the yard of a house behind Darlington Raceway twice a year at the races. Got to be friends with the couple who lived there. One year she gave me a bag of habineros that she’d grown. Went to the john during the race and set my “nutsack” on fire…After the race, went home, took a shower and we were eating dinner…I rubbed my eye and the fire was back on again!!! You couldn’t even touch those things without burning, so I would need to be very careful with the reapers.

Why do you want to kill weeds in bermuda? It is a danged weed! Wish I could kill every blade of it in our neighborhood cause the people just let the seeds blow all over my nice fescue!
If you’re trying to kill the bermuda, use Ornamec, but you have to wait until later in the year to spray and it could take you 2-4 years to wipe it out. I did a massive spraying in my front yard last year and it looked pretty grim until a few weeks ago when the fescue started coming back.
I need to clean my asparagus box out and put in new soil and compost to start all over. Got a lot out of it, but it’s run it’s cycle. I’ve seen the fellow down here with the hot peppers in Rock Hill, but I have not tried one. I know my limits!

I can never understand why he wanted to live anywhere near Ellerbe! Don’t know where my buddy went cause I haven’t seen him in 50 years or more, but he was a 4 star athlete at Ellerbe HS…But they only had a 6 or 7 man team. We never played them because of that, but I loved trouncing them on the baseball field! He and I were in the same cabin at summer camp between 8th and 9th grade and yep, it was like some of the stupid movies keeping 13 and 14 year old guys and gals separated!

Or is that “Whacker” Drive.. Wife is with me so I’ll have to be nice, until I get to Nashville. Last time we were there, I told her she had only two things to deal with…One was not counting how many beers I drank, and the other was she had to get herself back up the hill from Broadway because I would not be able to drag her! She did good!

Then we should hire Herb again? He’s experienced in failure! However, I agree with your assessment of everything being bigger in Texas…Including being a fool! There are many professional fools who live there and think it’s cool…Sit in front of a bunch of Aggies sometime and you’ll understand! But then, I’ve known for 50 years!

College basketball is a joke for many reasons which have been enumerated…Which is why I don’t get excited about college basketball anymore. It is not the same game(even if dunking had been allowed) that David Thompson played and is what my generation grew up with…Dumbed down for the “athletic types” that couldn’t play the game within the rules and fans that only liked to watch “high flying dunking”.
Can I say Professional Wrestling versus College Wrestling? Which one is real and which one is to draw fans? NASCAR used to be interesting too until Brian France and his brother in law showed up…
