Any of you done in online betting? I didn’t realize I was illegal on that with some minor horse betting in the Triple Crown races over the past 2-3 years. I was running a balance due to a hot year last year of a big whopping $250 or so. I logged in to bet on the Derby and my account balance had disappeared. I haven’t contacted them yet, but be careful out there(like the line on Hill Street Blues). Pissed me off cause one of my little female buddies works for Todd Pletcher in the summer, but is in vet school during the rest of the year.

highstickParticipantDon’t think I’ve ever gone to PP. Think I heard it costs money, and being a poor writer, that, like Kate Upton, is out of my league. I’ve seen some political crap over at BTP, but it’s easy to avoid. Don’t think I’ve really gone to 247 except when I’ve seen a link or two here or at BTP or from Facebook.
You don’t want to go to PP. I went over there to keep track of what was going on with the UnCheats situation because this site went absolutely dead on up to date factual info. Now, with that being said, PP is full of a bunch of nutcases and I’ve deleted my link recently. I’m not a fan of 247 because of the constant barrage of advertising/popups, etc. I’m hoping we can keep this group together, I’m not sure how to do it. I’m open to anything reasonable.
Summer doldrums, sure I get it, but this summer is about the worst I’ve seen it. This community seems to be dying and has quite obviously been neglected by the owners. That assertion would seem to be bolstered by the fact that while SFN was down for two weeks due to a “glitch”, it appeared the SFN owners hadn’t even realize it until a full week went by & were asked about it on the Twitters.
That being said, there’s definitely still a general interest in this specific community as I’ve seen quite a few of the regulars sign up over at PFN (including a few SFN moderators). The problem now is lack of participation. For now I’m trying to drive that content creation aspect (i.e. new topics) over at PFN to start generating some participation and I’m starting to see some traction. At the end of the day, the PFN software is head and shoulders above SFN while still maintaining that de-cluttered and simplistic look and feel. It’s also easy to use and has an owner who cares about keeping the community afloat and the site running smoothly.
And let me say having SFN members switch over to Packpride, or 247, or whatever it is these days, sounds like an awful idea. Perhaps I’m biased, but the SFN users seem to post (when they do post) much higher quality content within the discussions than over at PP.
I plead guilty cause I didn’t know it was down at all, but I have been very busy…which in itself, is difficult, for someone who is supposed to be retired.

highstickParticipantIs it possible to move the current SFN to PFN and change the name over there? I understand technology gets dated so there may be more valid reasons to do so if you’ve hit “the brick wall” with the current SFN platform. I’d certainly hate to lose the archives, but you guys know more about the tech side than I do.

Neat!!! I still can’t get over Jerry’s long hair. Last time I saw him at Robert’s, he didn’t have much hair at all…and prognosis wasn’t very good either. But I still also remember him as the little kid 6 years younger that could act sorta funny when he’d get mad. I can also remember some of his basketball teammates saying “don’t pass it to Jerry cause you’ll never get it back”!

Those areas are slowly greening up, but the temps here have been freakish. One day 80, next we go down to the mid 30’s.

Stick… your original pH was 5.3 and we put lime out when you did the bed prep for your turfgrass — one more bag of Dolomitic Line ain’t gonna hurt anything…
That said, lime, or lack thereof, doesn’t have anything directly to do with dormancy….
Typically, that’s primarily a function of soil temps — in yards and urban farming, you got a lot of variance in direct sunlight, wind, closeness to brick walls that absorb heat… all of which, will lead to some differences in how the grass comes out of dormancy…
The same is true in reverse during the growing season as there’s some difference is how the grass grows in different spots…
Remember, zoysia does not like shade…
In the summer, morning sun ain’t the same as afternoon sun…
And typically the hottest places in the summer are the coldest places in the winter…The fun part of all this is that the ‘hot and cold spots’ are constantly moving around the yard as the sun moves relative to the wobbly rotation of the earth…

highstickParticipantStick. You may be surprised, but politics never come between friends on my end. JD and I communicate rather often.
Hell no, I won’t ever go to the right…doesn’t mean we can’t humanoid together.
BTW. Golfed with the ’73 ACC Championship baseball team this weekend…Part of the long lost ring presentation, which I must say, exceeded anything State AD has ever done.
Guess who my partner was. Jerry Mills says, “Hey”
I saw a picture that Jerry’s wife had posted yesterday. Was there some sort of presentation on the field in uniforms? I couldn’t find you in the picture.

highstickParticipantStick: I really hope that isn’t an offensive player talking about his position coach. That would be a crippling loss…
Not sure who it was, but the comment came from the father so it’s apparently a “recruiter” from another engineering school located in the Carolinas so that sorta narrows it down.
Good looking kid and is huge. Said he bulks up to 315 during the playing season. I’m gonna see if I can figure out his name cause I know which high school he goes to.

highstickParticipantI was in a local clothing store today at the same time that a really big dude and his parents were shopping with him. Obviously he’d “outgrown his clothes again…just like me, but for different reasons”. Prom time is coming up so there were multiple reasons for him. Anyway, I started chatting with them and he’s still a high school football player. 6’4″ or so, weighs 280, but bulks up to over 300 during the season and is going into his junior year. I saw them looking at an Orange and White tie and said “you don’t want to do that”!!! Anyway, State is recruiting him and I expect Clempson is also because he want to major in Engineering. His Dad said, and he did not say who was putting the bug in his ear, but I can imagine…He says they are concerned about the NC State football coaching situation and the uncertainty.,…..

04/13/2018 at 6:26 PM in reply to: Grease Up, Hook Up, Get Ready to go to the Field – Spring Garden Thread – 2018 #133543highstickParticipantBill, I put out one bag of the DAP a week ago, but would an extra 40 lb bag of lime hurt/help, etc? The zoysia seems to be recovering for dormancy very well, but a bit patchy. I have mowed twice with the push mower and once with the rider(primarily to suck up some dead/loose thatch), then I raked. I had the rider deck set at 6 inches so I wasn’t cutting, just vacuuming and pulling up the loose stuff.
We’ve still gotten a lot of cool nights so I’m sure that’s impacting the dormancy process. Mine still looks better than any of the other zoysia lawns in the neighborhood.
I haven’t even thought about starting the veggies yet. It has been way too cool! But I’ve gotten to the point that I’m keeping that part of the farm pretty small.

Been there, done that with my Mom who died at 94. I told her before she died that I didn’t want to live that long because I saw the pain she endured with arthritis.. Guess what, I’m ahead of her with my thumb and finger joints. Gotta get this last batch of zoysia in soon cause I can’t continue with laying sod much longer.

It had already emerged!!! You sure it’s Dollar Weed…I thought this stuff I had was and after looking more closely at the leaf, it was the “Carolina Gardenia”..2-4-D applied lightly is working. Flip flops in the temp makes it slower though.

If you wanna get “old school”, buy yourself a manual reel mower and drop you gym membership!
I’ve had almost no weeds over the cooler months. Little bit of this Carolina Gardenia weed, but hit it with Monument, then some Speed Zone and it’s basically gone. I did put out 0-0-7 pre-emergent about 2-3 weeks ago. Things have tried to green up with the warmer days. I need to rake the little bit of pine straw up and mow gently over the next two weeks. The lawn service is mowing a neighbor’s two doors down with the riding mower, but she’s picking up weeds with the lawn service scattering weeds. No need to mow at all at this time…It’s been a pleasant relief not mowing fescue and weeds over the winter.

Been here 25 years and still struggle to get a decent heat tolerant stand of turf! I do hit my yard with lime more than my neighbors and it shows but still not where I want it.
I’ve got some Raiford roots in Va and NC going back to the 1700’s. Wish I knew if we were related. Do Zoysia! If I can do it in Rock Hill with Bill’s assistance, you can grow that stuff in Concord! I love this stuff and will attack the side and backyard this spring.

highstickParticipantUA fans most most certainly do show their a$&. You obviously have not spent 25 yrs in LA and NWF listening to UA fans s$&t and piss all over everyone while having a machine in place similar to the Carolina Way …
Plus it was a nice touch to hear an AL player yell out F$&k Trump on TV because he disagrees with politics. Saban has done well instilling the UA elite entitled culture in the team.
I really never a problem with a Bama fan, but sorta want the Paddy Wagon to come and pick up the drunk Jawja barking dog fans every time I’m around them. I honestly had Bama fans say “mea culpa”, most notably the October day in 2010 when Marcus Lattimore wore they butts out!

highstickParticipantFour or five years before I ever walked into Reynolds Coliseum, I went to my first ACC Basketball game….
One of my Mom & Dad’s best friends had a son at Duke, he got his POP 2 tickets and his POP, for whatever reason, took me to a Saturday afternoon basketball game in Cameron, back when maybe 4.200 standing was the max…
The opponent that day was the WOLFPACK…
I don’t remember the final score or much else, except that it was a close, hard fought game and I had a great time… and that a few of the names on the floor in blue were Verga, Vacendek and Lewis and in red… Williford and Wells….
———-
In 1972, I moved on down the road from the Sock Capital of the World to Alexander Dorm…
My best friend from HS, went to Duke…I was at every NCState basketball in Cameron for the next four years and returned the favor with the corresponding tixs to Reynolds…
So that how it works… that love v. hate thing x time ….
———–
SO we got the Blue Devils coming over on a night when the only thing colder might be our shooting percentage…
Coach Rat’s got his array of MAC-5-Star/oneanddone/freshman who just give him thatWTFlook in practice most days… and we got Keatt’s array of motleys, none of who are fools and… who busttheira##es in both directions, but lately don’t know which way to go…
Could be a barnstormer tonite, or not….
No predictions here…
I just want to see IF our TEAM shows up!
… and if the Devils don’t, we’ll kick their a##es back to West Durham…
POP!!!
I’ve seen Vacendak around town, but don’t know him. I do know Tom Hickman, the recently retired AD that he mentions in the article though. Tom’s a Wake grad. http://www.heraldonline.com/sports/college/big-south/winthrop-university/article68029302.html
