I am starting to wonder if Markell is done with us. I don’t get the feeling their is any anticipation of him coming back. I have not heard any leaks about what his his infraction was. He was not on the bench against RM, and I haven’t seen him tonight. I hope I’m wrong…

I just buy a spiral sliced ham, but man, that sounds good BotB and sounds like fun too. I am planning to get that trip in to Atlanta Hwy Seafood with family next week after Christmas.

If it was a game of HORSE I’d be worried but otherwise the Dolphins are not competitive

I got two from back home in Nashville. I hope I don’t have to explain NC, not TN.

Doug Sauls BBQ & Seafood. This is the original, old school, REAL BBQ. Great fried chicken. All the expected sides plus things like black eyed peas, collards, cabbage, yams…And the seafood is just as good. Trout is my favorite. Pro tip: order the child’s plate. It has one huge piece of fish plus two sides, and will save you $2 off the regular $7.95!

The other is Oak Level Cafe on the other side of town. Breakfast includes REAL country ham and red eye gravy, REAL fatback, REAL link sausage like back in the day, eggs regular or sausage, grits regular or cheesy, corned beef hash and biscuits…you can get all this and more on the buffet but you just point what you want and they load the plate for you.

This thread got started out just on the right foot when BotB recommended Atlanta Hwy Seafood in Gainesville. Who knew? I googled it and it is 33 miles from the house. I am so excited, and plan a visit before the year hits 2018.

Yeah, people making a real mistake waiting for the ACC games instead of these games against the Northeast conf., socon, etc. These are the competitive games where at least we can stay close.

I am buying Ryan Finley stock. He was a soph last year in a new offense with new coaches at a new school. He looked pretty doggone good and sometimes great. I believe he will have a breakout year…as in all ACC type. Not relying so heavily on Dayes may help us, if we can spread it around to JaySam, Hines, much improved receivers, and we are still strong at RB. Plus, the line looks strong, which you’ve got to have for the QB to play to his potential.

Looking like “Amen Corner” would be nice!

That’s where H8r trying to steer you. And you don’t get there with “low maintenance”.

One more zoysia post…Not to disagree with BotB…I think we are just coming from different angles. I don’t remember that Stick mentioned wanting a low maintenance grass, so here is something to think about. If you do want low maintenance as BotB described it, don’t waste your money on sodding zoysia, certainly not Zeon. Zoysia is a premium grass. It is primarily used for someone who wants an outstanding lawn, not a low maintenance one. If you are going to mow it every 2-3 weeks, not irrigate it, not control weeds and fungus, in a short amount of time you are not going to have zoysia, you are going to have different patches of whatever, which is what you already have. There is no such thing as low maintenance if you really want a nice lawn.

As for RegExp beach house, if you want something different, look into paspalum. I do not have any personal experience with it, but it is what the Braves use on their field, and what many coastal golf courses use, some even on their greens. It is salt tolerant, and has a very nice texture. Check it out with your sod farm, it might be a good choice.

    What advice given these facts?

Stick, zoysia does fine in clay based soils. Whether plugging or sodding, if you till the soil and add some topsoil it will help the rooting and spreading. The grass selection really comes down to the texture you want. Zeon is a fine bladed and very dense grass. Zenith is a little coarser. Zoysia is pretty slow to spread, so it will take time to fill in by plugs, and you will need to keep weeds under control. Zoysia has many advantages, but disease resistance is not one of them in the real world. It gets a fungus that will thin it out and ruin your yard if not controlled. It is wise to use a fungicide spring and fall. To get the best growth, do not let it get too dry and do not push it much with fertilizer. That only encourages the fungus.

“The Book” says do not sod when the grass is dormant, but actually it works great. Nothing wrong with doing it in the spring when it is ready to grow though. That is the conventional way. I have used Zenith, but ZEON is the one that is most recommended and most popular, and also most expensive.

Taking Bermuda out of zoysia would be a stretch.

    Fusillade maybe?

You really are a turf man, McCallum. There is a potion using fusalade and triclopyr for removing bermuda from zoysia, but I haven’t seen it work. The rates have to be very exact, but what you end up with is damaging the zoysia enough so that the bermuda comes back stronger, or you kill them both and end up sodding the area, which is what you might as well have done to start with.

Every time I have ever sodded zoysia to replace bermuda, some of the bermuda ALWAYS comes back, no matter how hard I attempt to kill all of the bermuda beforehand. I like BotB suppestion to sod the zoysia TIGHT, but the bermuda will grow through, around, and over the zoysia.

Instead of a sod cutter, I suggest using a tiller to prep the soil. It is a lot less work, and you will not be removing the existing soil. You will have to rake the trash out, but you will have a lot less waste by tilling and a better sod bed. If you can till some good topsoil into the existing soil, you increase your chance for success exponentially. I’ll let BotB handle the nutrients and ratios, but basically, it you till lime in and add some starter fertilizer, you will be fine. The biggest key is DO NOT LET THE ROOTS GET DRY UNTIL ESTABLISHED. Check them. You may think you are watering good, but it takes a lot to get the root zone moist and keep it there.

If Coach KeatTs is good enough for the retired pig farmer, he should be good enough for all of us. We should be grateful to him.

Assuming you talked to the only person you have access to, I have two thoughts.

First, he does not seem to be a very employee friendly kind of guy. Are you sure you want to work for this company, considering they already told you they cannot meet your present salary level?

Second, it you do still want to pursue this job, I like to go on offense. It doesn’t always work, but he has clearly put the ball in your court, it’s your move. You can take whatever they are offering, or you can negotiate. I say take it to the rim. Tell the guy you have looked over the benefits package, you would really like to make it work, but you are not looking to make a backwards move. Tell him why you are worth what you are asking and what you can do for the company, and how you can make money for him or save him money. Have a good answer for every question he can ask, and stay aggressive in justifying your worth.

What do I make of his offer? It seems to me he is looking for someone cheap, so it is up to you to change his mind.

    23% silt / 77% sand / O% clay / 0.5 SOM

BotB, I am a grass guy, but you got to know soil to grow good grass. The high silt content makes this soil pretty useless for growing anything. Silt is the worst of all worlds…very poor drainage AND low nutrient holding capacity. I suspect the sand is also very fine. I’d keep this soil out of my garden, but since you are testing, it will be fun to find out.
