I’d love to see some stats to back up this claim. That a team would be more at a disadvantage playing on their senior day sounds nothing short of outrageous to me.

    Whatever

Senior day didn’t help BC and I doubt it will help WF. More likely a distraction. Likewise playing for a bigger bowl. It’s like golf. The bigger the putt, the less help that is. Focusing on the task at hand is what makes a difference.

    They gotta guard us too.

    4. With the lead in the fourth quarter, Hines, Samuels and Harmon between the tackles — no exceptions…

Run Gallaspy in the 4th quarter

The hustle is great. We haven’t seen that in many years.
However in five years if he is not winning the style won’t matter.
Nonetheless, he has a system that had won every where he had gone. The only question is can he do the same at this level.

All points right on especially that last one.

I’m pleased to have reached deity status on this board where an erroneous prediction is weighed against me in perpetuity.

Don’t let it go to your head, Mac. 😉

I didn’t like the trick play because a good d is going to sniff that out.

I didn’t like that we ran the trick play so much as Finley check out of it when the defense showed strong side blitz. IMO that was a mental error on Finley — who wasn’t having his best day. For that matter JaySam could have checked out by faking the pass and running it himself.

IOW there’s more to this than the play call — even if I didn’t like the play call.

In reality I’m bored and I want to argue about something and the aforementioned sticks out like a Bible salesman in Carrboro.

    I resemble that remark. 😉

Pratt shot the gap but if you commit to the gap then you have to “get there”. The last several long runs the linebackers haven’t gotten there. Multiple times against ND, the classic misread at Clempson and now a repeat at BC.

Not “getting there” is not a coaching “mistake” nor is it a “classic misread.” It is a player failure to execute. Call it coaching if it makes you feel warm and fuzzy.

“Multiple times against ND, the classic misread at Clempson and now a repeat at BC.”

Our defense is playing more aggressively and/or learning to play more aggressively. Playing more aggressively is high risk/ high reward football. There will be some failure and there will be some success, but you must play it to get good at it.

IIRC ND scored twice on passes, once on an INT and once on a short run. Not a lot of LB misreads in that group of scores. We got out coached schematically vs ND. They played poorly the year before and “bought” good coordinators. The difference was clear this year.

The starter looked better than the backup AND the long run was a play where the linebacker read the play wrong and AGAIN there was no safety run support.

That’s why Dexter Wright, at safety, came in for Kidd-Glass after Dillion’s rip for 6. LB’s were not out of position on that particular play. In fact, Pratt shot the gap to where he almost made the play for a loss…had Kidd-Glass not attempted outside leverage on a TE, Dillon would have been hemmed at the line of scrimmage.

Mac, your analysis of the defense on the scoring run is almost as bad as your prediction that L’ville would win by 21 — AFTER State cut the margin. Now go ahead and explain to Mr. DOG how his explanation is all wrong.

Yeah BC bench warmer was a regular Joe Montana back there. They were on fire once he came in! Yeah baby!

The former senior starter was more like Steve Young — left-handed you know. 😉 He may not have been on fire but he did QB 2 more scores than the freshman he replaced.

For those interested in the facts the QB who won the starting job over the freshman was injured and replaced by the freshman. After returning from injury the former starter couldn’t win the job back. While he wasn’t a “regular Joe Montana” back there, neither was the freshman. So contrary to what Troll would have us believe, BC wasn’t reduced to using a “bench warmer”. ALL the points BC got were QB’d by the frosh’s replacement.

On a day when our offense struggled (sorry, the coaches made multiple mistakes) our poorly coached defense held BC to 2 TD’s and except for 1 long run, held Dillon to less than 4 ypc. They gutted it out and won a big game for the Pack.

We rant and rave about all the mistakes we made giving up 14 points to a team that has been averaging over 40 ppg their previous 3 games. On their field, on their Seniors Day no less. And they had 2 weeks to prepare for us while we had to play number 4 team in the country. Yeah, IT IS ON THE COACHES.

Coaches get paid millions to win. It is certainly a legitimate measuring stick. ‘program building’ and ‘doing it right’ only goes so far.

Rick, The question was about how you like the new style (involving all the players). It isn’t measuring anything, just asking how you liked it.

Had you rather go to Chicago or New York? The answer, “I’d rather go by bus.” Doesn’t fit the question. Neither do the answers to Bill’s question fit his question. Perhaps the question was too complicated.

The starter looked better than the backup AND the long run was a play where the linebacker read the play wrong and AGAIN there was no safety run support.

    Your point Grey?

A little testy there, aren’t you, Mac? Does it bother you to have your point of view challenged?

Your allegation was “convenient” but not necessarily true. “Looking better” and being more effective may not be the same in any given game. I’m sure that the freshman looked better in practice which is why he is the starter. Just being left-handed and rolling to his left gave a different look for the defense.

In this particular game we were prepared for the ‘style’ and tendencies of the right-handed freshman starter but maybe not so much for the style of the left-handed senior. We’ll never know but possibly “where the linebacker read the play wrong and AGAIN there was no safety run support” was partially due to the different look the lefty gave the offense.

    2) losing their QB was key because after that they couldn’t move the ball effectively.

What do you call “moving the ball effectively”? Did you watch the game?

According to the records BC didn’t score with “their QB” before he got hurt. The long run came with the senior replacement as did the second TD.

We WILL take it! Needed their QB to get knocked out of the game. But it counts in the W column.

The QB who was knocked out of the game, a freshman, played a quarter and a half without BC scoring. BC scored almost as soon as his replacement, a senior, entered the game.

Only in your imagination did we need help with the win.

grey… forgive a blind old man… after five years of one on five with Cat and DJS — 6 or 7 is damned refreshing…

Bill, Check the “?” I was wondering about people who had to wait 2 months to tell if they liked the “New Look” Keatts style basketball. I guess they can only tell by looking at the W/L record.

I went to a Sox game last year and had a great time. The seats were a little on the small side though.

The seats in the red zone at C-F have shrunk in the last several years. Either that or my arse is getting bigger.

I, for one, would encourage the athletic department of our university to ignore any contest scheduled with Chapel Hill,

Play Beverly in scheduled contests with the holes… let’s see what the NCAA does in a holes game when the opponent is using ineligible player(s).
