GreywolfParticipant
This thread is getting old but is still relevant. If you care about NC State recruiting, listen/watch his NSD presser. He makes staying in your home state the right thing to do for your future without making the out of state schools wrong or putting them down. He talks about the value of being know in your home state AFTER football and college is over. He talks about the relationships that Holt and Williams have built by playing for NC State.
Contrary to some opinions here, he doesn’t sell dreams and hopes, he sells reality after you earn a degree in a quality education institution. Most 17 and 18 year old boys aren’t thinking about living long distances from their home when they graduate. That can change after playing in Athens or Tuscaloosa or Baton Rouge for 4 years but at the time recruiters are talking to these young men, that’s not the case.
DD obviously gets to know the families of the young men he recruits and he speaks highly of both the parents and the character of the recruits themselves.
I am impressed with Dave Dorean and can see why Debbie was too. As a parent would I want my son playing in a family atmosphere, getting a quality education or for some Red Bull swilling guy coaching for a known academic fraud?
GreywolfParticipant“Legalize same-sex marriges and abortion and Chapel Hill will be a ghost town in 3 generations” is a joke cracking on the liberals over at the dump on the hump. I sure as hell didn’t mean to upset the heavy and significant SFN. I would have bet my hat, ass and overcoat that at least 1 out of the 10 commenters would have gotten it. I forgot that few read past the title of the thread to form an opinion.
GreywolfParticipantstrangely enough, my interest in following it (recruiting) has dropped to nearly zero.
Which should explain why VaWolf82 was the 3rd person commenting on a recruiting thread…
I think I get what the VaWolf is trying to say but this is more than just about recruiting, it’s also about interest in the Wolfpack football program. Looking at the players who’ve flipped to the Wolfpack it’s hard to deny that ‘something’ is going on with State football besides a good recruiting class.I’m going on 77 and I don’t have many years left to get excited about Wolfpack football so I’m going to take a chance on getting excited about this recruiting class and the future of NC State football in particular and NC State athletics in general.
GO Pack!
GreywolfParticipantI like Anya, but today I couldn’t figure out why Gott stayed with him so long and kept Vandy on the bench.
Vandy had 1 rebound in 25 minutes. Anya had 4 boards in 11 minutes of play. I think you got the question backwards. Why did Gott stay with Vandy so long?
GreywolfParticipantBut, State gains nothing on The BlueHose, nor ODU.
Mr. DOG, I respectfully beg to differ. State gains some confidence and some time to prepare for the meaty part of the schedule. Hopefully those freshmen and redshirt freshmen will be playing more like sophomores than high school seniors then. My contention applies to this year only. It’s DY and DD’s call and I suspect that they considered all angles before going this route. We will never actually know if it was the right call or not.
GreywolfParticipantI can imagine the pitch from DD in the top recruits living room. It might go something like this: …
If DD’s recruiting pitches are even remotely close to what FestusWolf imagines they are, God help us.
While OOC scheduling might have an effect on recruiting, I doubt it ranks high enough to worry about at this time. Speaking of recruiting, DD and staff are doing pretty darn good for a new coach recruiting for a team that was 3-9 last year. It’s OK to not like the schedule or even be upset about it but let’s not make fools of ourselves dreaming up ridiculous and improbable consequences.

The sun felt really good. I looked over at the west stands and saw many empty seats while the east stands were fairly well populated.
Regardless, I resent the comparison of Carter-Finley to Kenan. Why? Because there is no comparison when it comes to attendance. If one could buy tickets to games at Kenan for the price of the people who actually attend and sell them for the number claimed to be there, one could fund the indoor practice facility.

I may be mistaken but I think that 2 of the 3 FCS teams are moving up to FBS status and as such count as FBS. If you want to play a weaker schedule this is not a bad way to do it.Have no fear this type scheduling will not be the future.
01/22/2014 at 10:03 PM in reply to: 2014 NC State Football Schedule is Out with Quick Thoughts #38145GreywolfParticipantand replacing a Maryland on our schedule isn’t as easy as one might think. I intend to enjoy the good weather and the tailgating and the band, cheerleaders and those girls in the tight black pants as the march into the stadium. Makes my day!
01/22/2014 at 9:59 PM in reply to: 2014 NC State Football Schedule is Out with Quick Thoughts #38144GreywolfParticipant“Who’s going to buy tickets?”
I expect it will be the same Wolfpack fans who bought tickets last year.
With over 50 RF and freshmen on the 2014 squad, the AD probably saw that a strong early schedule (in addition to FSU and Clemson) loaded with teams running up big scores would not be the best for NCSU. With the spring, fall camp and an early easy schedule, we may be ready to play our fellow ‘bottom feeders’ on a more equal footing.
I for one trust the AD to know what she is doing even if I don’t totally agree or like it.
01/22/2014 at 4:27 PM in reply to: 2014 NC State Football Schedule is Out with Quick Thoughts #38136GreywolfParticipantGood to see the schedule out. Gives us something to complain about to balance the recruiting going well.
Jackwolf predicted wins are doable although I would love to swap one of our Ws for that L in our last game.
My short wish list for 2014:
Jacoby Brissett is half as good or better than Dorean believes he is
We get a magic wand waved over the defense and we show up like bad asses.
Brian Underwood has an All ACC type yearGreywolfParticipant“When the rest of the bench was jumping up and cheering, Cuz just sat there and smiled a little….”
Why wasn’t he playing? Oh, that’s right he has a bum ankle. some lead by jumping up and down and some lead by averaging 22 pts per game.
GreywolfParticipantI assume many of you saw the ESPN scroll announcing this during the UMD game.
No, I missed it. If it was in the first half, I probably had my head in my hands.
GreywolfParticipant“put the original 7 in one division”
Of the original 8 which 7 did you have in mind? South Carolina went independent then to the SEC and now Maryland is going B1G. I suppose GT could fill in for SC or MD. I do like the concept. FSU and CU would be in opposite groups and all the original rivals would still play one another.
The alignment would create a basketball heavy division and a football heavy division. Well, it could if Duke, State and *nc got their mess together. Or maybe the original 6 or 7 would be so bad in both football and basketball that it would not work out.
GreywolfParticipantFor anybody who gives a crap, the zebras are hosing BC over at the hump at the dump.
GreywolfParticipantGreat news. Like the games aren’t long enough already.
GreywolfParticipantI like his haircut and he won’t have to invest in a lot of new (red) clothes.
The teams he coached didn’t all have great records but he does have quite a range of experience. If Huxtable leaves he will be the oldest coach on our staff. Don’t know what DD is thinking but from my view DD could have used someone like Baldwin on the sideline with him last year.
I’d say he was a 4* recruit as far as coaches go.
GreywolfParticipantEverything I read about DD and NCSU football excites me. Nothing I read about basketball excites me, not even recruiting news. If DD could bring in classes like Gott brings in, we could compete for national championships.
GreywolfParticipantDoes he get a motorcycle and a tight-assed assistant in his contract? Marriage counseling?
GreywolfParticipantDon’t worry. Defensive Coordinators will find ways and damn quickly too. Hakim Jones, our starting Free Safety, reportedly has a 40+/- vertical leap. Lob it towards the Big Jelly and watch the INT. That’s one way of doing it.
GreywolfParticipantWhen you sit in the stands and watch the game you see differently, and when you stand on the sidelines and watch, you see another. Those of us sitting in the stands watching through a fans eyes don’t see what those watching through the coach’s eyes see. What was needed when THE SUBSTITUTION was made was steady play and not letting the Irish make a run. At the end what was needed was a different skill set. Mr. DOG, you gotta stop looking through a coach’s eyes.
When their center got the uncontested lay up near the end, the some State fans got upset. Here’s the deal. Time was winding down. We were guarding against trading 2 for 3. So we gave up an easy 2 and when they fouled, we got the easy 2 back.
I get a real laugh out of reading ‘why doesn’t the team do what I (the fan) think needs to be done?’
GreywolfParticipant“asked if she actually ever listened to me”
Mr. Plywood, we may be husbands-in-law.
GreywolfParticipantBama’s OOC is worse than ours.
GreywolfParticipantPart of the qualifications for positions in Coaching and administration is the networking aspect. It crucial in putting together staff in football and I would assume scheduling and such requires some contacts.
GreywolfParticipantNo mention of Travares Copeland no longer on the roster. I expected TC to have a great career at NC State within DD’s system.
