I do wish we could chart something like a “moving” average. Maybe what have we done in our last 4 games. Highs and lows would eventually move off the chart.

This is a team filled with FR, RSFR, So’s and RSSo. Players are playing now that weren’t on the field the first of the season. Our base defense in now in and we are stunting off it. Just as our Offense is not the offense that built good stats that don’t reflect how we are playing now, our defense is not the defense that abused by GSU, ODU and others.

Not complaining about the work that WV Wolf does. To the contrary I appreciate what he does. I just wish there was a way to get a picture of where we are now with what we have.

I’m just going to go out on a limb here and say Samuels needs the ball more.

He IS a load when he has the ball! I suspect that the only way Samuels could get many more touches would be to move him to RB and give him Creecy’s. Part of his success can be attributed to the infrequency with which we use him. DC’s are charting our tendencies and aren’t ready for Samuels. That fake punt is good for about once a year. 😉

Greywolf, it was a general sentiment…like NCStateSh!t. Not regarding this team, this year or even this sport.

Okay, and why not read the posts of knowledgeable members and try to understand what’s happening in this sport, this year, with this team instead? No offense intended but I’d suggest that aligning yourself with the losers who are making mindless comments like “NCStateSh!t” is not where you really want to be.

    Yogi puts it this way:

Through thick and thin I wear RED, with as big an S on it as I can find. Sunday I had on a State golf shirt and one of my many State jackets. And I’ll keep on wearing my colors until I die, win lose or draw. Why? Because I take pride in pulling for the Pack. They are MY team. I was on the main drag in 74 when they beat UCLA to go to the championship game on Monday night, it was some of the most fun I’ve ever had. In 83 I was stationed on a submarine in Charleston and I had over 100 bucks in bets. Everyone was giving me 20 points. Told ‘em they were nuts, Jimmy V wasn’t about to let that game go over 50 points and State would be in it at the end. They were in it alright. I’ve seen incredible wins and loses at CF, but I’d rather be there than anywhere on a fall Saturday or Thursday night.

Well said and that’s the kind of fan with whom I’m aligning myself. I’m more proud to be a Wolfpacker every day. I will give you this much, I’d rather have “NCStateSh!t” than “CarolinaWaySh!t.”

I hope for your sake that the geniuses who schedule these games will find a better time of year to schedule State-Carolina in 2015. Thanksgiving week when the students are away?

I’m grateful to the geniuses that the game is at Kenan and it will be the Ewenc student section that is empty.

I’m really disappointed that our football program has reached the point at which large numbers of our fan base celebrate a 6-win season with gusto.

The “gusto,” if there is any, is for improvement and for the extra practice time due granted to those who are participating in a bowl.

Sorry your attitude keeps you away next season but perhaps your negativity missing is just what State fans need. Perhaps a few more of your nancy friends will join you. Negative vibes don’t enhance my experience of being in C-F on a fall Saturday.

We typically don’t handle success well.

That’s an interesting thought. I’m just trying to recall the successes we didn’t handle well. As a matter of fact I’m drawing a blank — all our conference success memories before Syracuse under Doeren just escape me.

Allowing 38 yards on 37 carries isn’t good defense, that’s stout defense. Eight Nine or ten weeks ago we would not have done that even to an injury-weakened offense. The athletes Syracuse were replacing injuries with were every bit as good as the ones Presbyterian were fielding. We all know what Presby did.

Saturday State was flying to the ball and arriving in a foul mood. We are playing very good defense at this time — the perfect time to peak. I respectfully disagree with nav. I don’t see GT scoring more than 24, maybe 31 points. If we can get our offense back on track, we will be hard to beat from here on out. 6-6 is the minimum regular season record. Wouldn’t 8-4 be a shocker?

    Go State!

You may note that the 42 is morphing into that Bear 46 over the last 2 games, with 8 men in the box.

I’m making this up but IMO Doeren (and Hux and our run game coordinator, Nielson) have done a remarkable job putting in the base 4-2-5 and training our mostly young defense to operate inside the principles they are teaching. With the 4-2-5 fundamentally in, we are now installing such as that zone blitz and putting in nuances such as “morphing into that Bear 46.” When the sky was falling and we were blasting Hux and Doeren and anybody else we could think of to include, those guys were “doing it the right way” — installing it methodically and creating what looks like a pretty formidable defense. Those guys are playing “fast” and without having to think. Putting in the pieces too soon would have been a big mistake IMO. Knowing the pieces to put in and doing so in a timely manner with a young defense are 2 different animals.

    Atrocious pass defense.

Let’s take a look some of the numbers. Over half the yardage (161) was to one receiver who made some pretty good catches of some perfectly thrown balls. Alpha commented that the corner play was weak. Hard to argue that. But calling a pass defense atrocious that gave up only 2 TDs while picking off 2, one being a pick-six, may be a little over the top.

My point is that calling the pass defense atrocious, indicts all the pass defense. Saying the corner play is weak is just telling it like it is. And the corner play is not likely to get any better with the current 2-deep.

BTW anybody know what McKever was doing in pass coverage? Have they moved him to LB? If so might not be a bad move. Ted “The Stork” Hendricks comes to mind. McKever has good hands and while not blazingly fast, he does have good speed.

Syracuse, the kicking team, was not allowed to advance the ball when they recovered the onside kick. Can anybody shed some light on that play? Apparently the Cuse coach didn’t understand it either. It appeared as though our players were coached to not try to cover the ball. Nobody blocked or tried to catch the ball nor did they really try to catch the Cuse player.

No hurry as I have cleaned myself up from where I sh*t myself when I thought they had scored a TD.

I personally think that we should hang banners for our ACC basketball title game losses to UNC in the Finals. The ACC may not award us with the titles, but they will hang there with a reminder that UNC did in fact cheat when they won those years.

What about a banner for the National Championship in ’73? We were undefeated you know.

Here’s an interesting history note. The holes will be blaming the whole mess on State if we let them.

in 1952, mcguire left st. john’s to become basketball coach at the university of north carolina. on paper, this was a significant step down from st. john’s, as unc was not reckoned as a national power at the time. however, school officials wanted a big-name coach to counter the rise of rival north carolina state under everett case.

with a roster largely made of players from in and around new york city, mcguire guided north carolina to an undefeated 32-0 season in 1956-57, capped off by winning the ncaa championship game 54-53 in triple overtime against the wilt chamberlain-led kansas jayhawks.

In 1961, UNC was found guilty of major NCAA violations. Combined with rumors of point shaving by some UNC players, this led Chancellor William Aycock to force McGuire’s resignation after the season. The man who replaced him was Dean Smith, his assistant coach whom he recommended for the job.

Allie LaForce just keeps getting better and better, in both aspects of sideline ladyhood.

    which means?
Enjoy the girls while you can. Blink and they’ll be gone with a husband. I’m up for a great-grandchild soon. I’ve still got a lot of memories — as you can tell. 😉

Same with my daughter. She quit before HS. And she was far and away the better athlete than her bro. Margot started out a year underage on a boys team I coached as a favor to somebody. When the league shifted to girls teams, Marg scored 5 goals in the first half of her first game before she was moved to FB. Playing in the backyard with her bro really was unfair to the other girls.

Marg entered the 9 y.o. girl’s mile at a Junior Striders big meet when her bro noticed only 3 girls were entered. What they didn’t know was one girl was the top 9 y.o. miler in the country. Another was tops in the region. Margot was lapped by the national girl in the 3rd lap, by the regional girl and the wannabe girl at the start of the 4th lap. A meet official ran along side of Margot and tried to get her to stop running so the meet could continue. By now I’m trying to keep from outright crying, watching Marg sob as she kept running. Coming out of the 4th turn she started sprinting in. Every participant and official was at or near the finish line cheering like crazy. Ask me if I was proud. (I’m a little choked up right now.)

Years later I asked her about it. All she said was, “Well Dad, you always told us to sprint in.”

BJD, I know this will have no real interest but anyway… My son, Garrick, and one of his Classic League teammates trained with Milwall in ’71 or 2. We had met one of Mel Bly’s neighbors, who was here to work with IBM for a while. Bly was a long time sweeper for Crystal Palace and was playing out his last year with Milwall.

Even though Milwall was relegated to 2nd division at the time, training with an English professional team was quite an experience for 2 16 yo American boys. Both were better than decent players. My Garrick was All-State and All-South his Sr yr. John went on to play at eweNC and G at ASU in Boone.

Our boys came back different players than they were when they went over. Mostly different was their playing attitudes. Both boys were relatively small but when they came back they had nasty playing attitudes and were “legally” as rough as any 2 in this area. Maybe it wasn’t as coincidental as I use to think but Garrick was the starting sweeper his Jr and Sr years after playing wing his soph yr at Sanderson. Old Mr. Bly, as Garrick called him, may have had some influence on my son, eh?

    Just rambling down memory lane…

Funny thing that DC’s boyfriend was never mentioned, never interviewed by Wainstein. My memory is just the pits these days but wasn’t his name Warren something and didn’t he play basketball at UNC? You’d think he would be a likely interviewee. I’d love to see Wainstein interviewed about his instructions and if he had a “hands-off” list.

Absolutely astounding to me that we are in the midst of a historic conference losing streak, and yet our attendence vs. capacity is still 4th in the ACC <snip> I was in Chapel Hill Saturday night for the GaTech game, and was astounded by the amount of aluminum I could see in that stadium for a pivotal nationally televised game. We show up in much greater numbers for a far inferior product.

How are we in the midst of an “historic conference losing streak?” Historic my red necked ass. Duke had 16+ loses during the Fred Goldsmith era. That’s historic. State’s 12 game streak being historic is just wishful thinking. Get back to me if we lose out — and we won’t.

You seem to think a football game on Brokeback Hill is a superior product. “Classof89” wouldn’t happen to be the UNC-CHeat class of 89 would it? I will admit that the ass whipping that the Pirates put on the holes was a very superior product.

Those of us who buy Wolfpack season tickets are supporting a team we love, not arbitrarily shopping for “product.” Rounding it out most of us enjoy tailgating, the camaraderie of friends and relatives and the game day experience in general. Astounding isn’t?

Roy not only knew, he new in detail what classes his players were taking. Wayne Walden was with him for 21 yrs from Kansas to UNC with never a player academically ineligible.

And when are those dumbasses at K-State going to wake up and start sniffing around KU? Got to be the same sh*t going on there.

UNIVERSITY EMPLOYEES developed a system to keep unqualified and unmotivated athletes eligible to play. To my view, it doesn’t matter whether you can prove the coaches knew or not…the punishment should be the same.

Do you think that Debbie and Julius, by themselves, came up with all that “personal concern” about doing it for the down-trodden students? The money spent on spin doctors was not wasted. How could anybody punish the great U of NC for something a couple of employees were doing on their own. Embarrassing, yes but not something the U had anything to do with or the coaches knew about. So much BS.

As always, thank you for the work you do.

Strange as it may be, we are on the south side of average on offense and just played the #1 defense in the country, giving them all they wanted and then some. Go figure.

Sorry I quoted the wrong post. I was answering the person who asked me what TOB’s record would be.

The old 7:45 brain fart, eh? Even answering the wrong post you are still pretty much right on — it’s irrelevant as are the complaints about last years lack of conference wins. That was last year: this is this year. Let’s take these last 4 one at a time.
