Building a program may not produce All Conference performers. Had Doeren given Shad 25 or 30 carries a game like some fans thought he should, Shad may have been All Conference. Senior Tony Creecy would have been neglected and Dayes would have done pine time. And oh, we would have “improved.” However, recruits see what is happening at schools they are considering. The only conclusion to draw from what they saw here is that seniors are respected, and more than one RB gets a chance to show his stuff and win more playing time which might be important to those guys still out there that are considering State.
It’s been said many times and in many ways, Canada and Huxtable with Doeren’s guidance and blessing have a plan for installing offense and defense. There was no rush to get ahead of themselves to install something early that was not in the timeline for installing either O or D. Not allowing Jacoby to run, and man can he run, was by design. Don’t risk an injury and screw up the plan. Run Samuels according to plan. When basketball coaches try different combinations, we think they are being smart. When football coaches try different combinations of receivers or whatever, we wonder what the hell is wrong with them and why don’t they play the flavor of the day that the fans like.
We saw Saturday what happens when all that “talent we don’t have” get’s partially unleashed. I suggest that the data analyzers and that talent assessors are analizing and assessing with incomplete data and application of talent. We played Purvis and maybe other seniors who weren’t as “talented” as some newcomers such as Samuels. Why play them? Well, you can’t talk authenically about family and treat seniors like crap. Doeren is nothing if not authentic.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating and man did we eat some pudding in Chapel Hole Saturday. Those guys were playing for each other and for respect of “our house.” I doubt seriously if a damn soul in that locker room give 2 sh1ts about who made or didn’t make all comference. I wonder why we do.
GreywolfParticipantGet the game over early, get to 8 wins and parlay that into some late recruiting.
Rye, Not the thread to talk about it but Doeren ain’t selling the past (bowl wins or W/L record) he’s selling a future for the recruit to live into — what they can build together, family, meaningful diploma, etc. Important to get this: if it had squat to do with the W/L record or bowls, there wouldn’t be very many highly rated recruits around for us to pick from.
Even EweNC is selling the future — sleeping giant, graduating with a degree (and never mind how they get it) from the flagship, etc. They are not landing 4* and 5* recruits using their W/L or bowl record. Unfortunately for EweNC (heh, heh, heh) that future is looking darker and darker as each new snafu is uncovered and they can see what Fedora is doing with all his high-ranked recruits.
What bowl will we wind up in? Any good fortune is gravy. It really don’t matter. For what Doeren is up to IMNSHO in the long term the practice time is far more important.
GreywolfParticipantI’m hearing Shad is thinking about it (going pro) , but hopefully JB isn’t.
Jacoby way too smart to think he could make it in the pros at this time. Shad is on the “pro” side of neutral. Recruits seem to think he is going. I wondered if running him as the featured back was to give his ‘resume’ a better look.
GreywolfParticipantEVERYTHING didn’t go Jocoby and the Pack’s way Saturday. We lost the coin toss.
Didn’t want to start a new thread but this was seen on the Hole board. Enjoy!:
“I’m done too. Been pouring money and emotion into this football program since 1976. At my age, the product is not worth the price. Sleeping giant my ass. How long is the mf going to sleep?”GreywolfParticipantI love the comments I’ve been reading. Sounds like we the fans are buying in to the 1Pack1Goal culture as well as the players. Or is it 1Goal1Pack? 😉
I love the culture DD has instilled!
This is so important and cannot be quantified as improvement or progress. We say Jacoby run for 167 yards. That’s not improvement or progress. That’s part of the offense Canada is installing. We couldn’t risk running the quarterback before the last game. What would we do if Jacoby got banged up. We got a taste of the NIU offense Saturday — aggressive, plus 1 offense. Our defense was in sync Saturday. That 5-2=4 we have been installing and training all year may have been played as well as it could be played.
We will graduate some good seniors. Next man up!
GreywolfParticipantThe Holes can thank Dave Doeren for making sure fedora won’t be going to Florida. Nor will they be losing their DC any time soon.
GreywolfParticipantSorry Greywolf, I don’t recall writing that
You didn’t write it, I did. Don’t know how that stuff happens. I was worried before the game about the Hole defense. I hoped in my heart of hearts ours would show up. And boy did they show up. Now for the 2nd half…
GreywolfParticipantAveraging in the horrible defense the was on the field is a foolish mistake in evaluating the Holes defense.
I don’t know sh!t!
GreywolfParticipantThe Cheats have been practicing their systems for 3 years with athletes BMFD recruited – those that have not been sent packing for various rules violations — and athletes Fedora has recruited. The Holes were ranked in the preseason top 25 for a reason. They seem to be rallying and sticking together during all the adversity. That’s to be expected.
My biggest concern is the steep learning curve the Holes had to endure during the first half or so of the season is now flatteni g out as hopefully ours is. Averaging in the horrible defense the was on the field is a foolish mistake in evaluating the Holes defense. Where this defense ranks nationally is irrelevant. Ask Duke if the baby blues are soft on defense.
Mere game planning will not get the job done IMO. State will have to be a lot tougher than the Holes offense. Lets hope that Hakim Jones is right.
I’m pulling for our boys to do their best and come home making us proud – win or lose. If we happen not to win, I’m not letting it spoil my enjoyment of the success of the season.
We may not be waiting until next year but next year we’ll be waiting, just the same.
GreywolfParticipantI know DD sent everybody home or home with a teammate or coach. Does anybody know about the holes? Did they stay and practice or what? Not that it really matters, just curious.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Go Pack!GreywolfParticipantNote that four of the top five are in the Atlantic Division.
The remaining 3 are in the bottom 4. That leaves the middle of the road pretty much to the Coastal Division. 😉 Strange to see the Hokies in the bottom 3.
GreywolfParticipantExcellent, GW. I agree with your view completely. Nicely put!
I’m not sure you mean my essay or my signature. 😉 Either way, thanks for letting me know you read it.
GreywolfParticipantwas last night evidence that the Coastal is good or bad?
I’d say that last night’s game was too small a sample to determine whether the Coastal is good or bad. I’m also inclined to let other analyze the numbers as they did above. And I pretty much agree with their conclusions.
11/21/2014 at 5:51 AM in reply to: BeeJay Anya leads the Pack block party against Jacksonville #62080GreywolfParticipantWho is that guy wearing #21 and what have they done with Anya? That guy, Anya, has done some serious off season work. Not only has he lost the weight which is impressive enough but he is running the court. In one instance he lead the break — Okay, he looked more like a lead blocker for Cat Barber than a BB player but he was hustling never the less.
And he lead the cheerleading on the bench. All the scholarship players looked genuinely excited and happy for any success the walk-ons’ had. And I like that.
C Jr. looked like I remember C Sr. looking on the court but too few times to have any hope for him developing. Who knows?
GreywolfParticipantwhere’s Mr. Dog been lately ??
Mr. DOG’s working on the north side of Lake Gaston in a no-Fi zone.

What AW and the others said. This part is for my own entertainment. Someday, one day I’d like to see the playoffs system evolve to 4 power conferences with 16 teams (2 divisions). To satisfy the second level teams left out, have some sort of relegation/promotion system to drop the weaker teams from and add stronger teams to the 4 power conferences.
Play a 12 game schedule ending in November (13 weeks), after an open date, play a conference championship game (2nd Sat. in Dec.). The conference champions then compete for the national title — the semis between Christmas and New Years and 2 weeks later the NC game in Jan. In the 12 game schedule require 2 interdivisional games (that don’t count towards division championships) and 3 inter-conference games also not counting in determining Div championships. No cupcakes.
If ND wants to participate, let them join an effing conference. While I’m at it, I’d drop Eweniversity of North Carolina from ACC and let them pursue their wanted status in the Ivy League. Move Miami and FSU to the SEC to round out their 16 teams. Penn State, ND and unfortunately MD & UConn and perhaps The Boilsermakers to fill out the ACC.
This pretty much screws everybody else out of the chance to compete for the NC since most of your really good players who want to be involved in big time college football will be joining the Power 4 teams.

Plus they don’t have much of a Walmart fan base either. 😉When Wallace Wade was built, track was a big influence in the design and lay out. Unfortunately the track around the field pushes the seats away, especially the end zone seats. IMNSHO WW is just not a good place to watch a football game.
GreywolfParticipantWhat about this post is not factual?
Rick, Navy is not a juggernaut. 😉

The facts are that Georgia Southern is a 3 loss team leading the Sun Belt. They lost by a wide margin to the juggernaut that is Navy yesterday.
Sorry, but I thought the situation virtually screamed for just a little bit of levity.
Please fix the title of this thread: “Cupcake” Georgia Southern is now 8-23.GreywolfParticipantSecondly I watched all afternoon coaches call the fade to corner or a jump ball to the corner. It rarly works.
If I had known you watch football on television all afternoon, I wouldn’t have questioned your knowledge as to which plays were horrible and which to call. Regarding my tone I thought that a smart-arsed tone was appropriate to someone who thought he was smarter and knew better than the OCs in the NFL.
Did you watch long enough to realize the plays are only horrible when they don’t work?
Are you sure I’m the one foose is referring to as arrogant and ignorant and not some guy who from watching television thinks he knows more than the pros? Do you have a cite to back up your assumption? Or is this another expert opinion?
GreywolfParticipantBTW Grey, this is my favorite version of that verse:
A fool does not delight in understanding, but only wants to show off his opinions.Yogi, think I’ll go with your favorite version — for a while at least. 😉
GreywolfParticipantDown four with seven minutes to go – fourth down on the Chiefs 2… and Pete doesn’t take the chipshot.. and the Chiefs hold ‘em…
Same thing again… three minutes later fourth down and 2 on the Chiefs 36… not a chipshot, but definitely within Hueska’s range…If Ole Pete always went with the percentage move, Russell Wilson would be backing up that $7M free agent they signed — like Glennon in TB.
Not only did they go for it in forth down the plays they chose were horrible.
Would you share the email you sent the OC explaining why those plays were horrible and telling him the ones he should have called — with a copy to Russell in case he audibled?

GreywolfParticipantMy first experience was riding 3.5 hours to the Dixie Classic when I was 6
Yogi, your just a pup! In my “Christmas Stocking” when I was 13 was a book of tickets to the first Dixie Classic. I had to walk a couple of miles to get there and back. I don’t know how long I’ve been a State fan but it had to have been a pretty long time for my mother to spend that kind of money (that context thing again) on a book of tickets. My seat was on the next to the top row in one of the extreme northern end sections. My eyes were young enough then that I could see all the way to the court. I didn’t know any better and sat in that seat through every game.
Later in HS I sold cokes in Reynolds — when I wasn’t watching the games. During the intermission between games you could make some real good change for a HS student. Cut my hand once and just sat their while the State fans opened bottles, poured the cokes, collected money and made change. Not one cynical bastard in the crowd. I promised myself when I ever grew up I would be that kind of fan.
I’m with you on nearly everything you write about being a loyal State fan — can’t think of a thing I disagree with. I grew up watching State football in old Riddick Stadium. “Stadium.” That’s a joke! I remember having to travel to Brokeback Hill to play our “home games” with the holes. I got my first football season tickets in Carter Stadium the year it opened. Four tickets and 4 kids tickets every year for years. I lost my 50 yard line tickets and now have 2 in the NEZ. Look at the panoramic photo. You’ll see me standing near the top looking up to my left at the score board.
Enough of the nostalgic reminiscing. I’m going over to another board and read me some “Great Unpleasantness” news. 😉
GreywolfParticipantWith a “quality win” over Eastern Kentucky (or FSU) they will be bowl eligible. 😉 In another post I commented about context being decisive. In the context of Florida’s football history and their being in the SEC a 6-6 season is NOT acceptable and it’s appropriate for Muschamp to step down. For Florida to decline a bowl in their situation might even be appropriate.
GreywolfParticipantI do not believe a home win against Ga Southern constitutes a “quality win” in my book.
’83, How did protestations that GSU is not a cupcake turn to claims of a “quality win?” This kind of thoughtless comment creates an argument that isn’t there in the first place.
Having said that, I would have to take the side that it IS a “quality win.” Maybe not for many teams but in the context of a team fighting to climb back from a 3-9 season and become bowl eligible, it is a quality win. (The Supreme Court has ruled that “context is decisive”) In a different context a win over GSU would NOT be a quality win, however, in the context of NC State’s current rebuild the GSU win is a “quality win.” 😉
C’mon guys, can’t we all just relax and bask in the warm embrace of being bowl eligible.
sarcasm alert — How can we bask in the warm embrace of being bowl eligible when we didn’t beat FSU, Clemson, Louisville and GT to get there? Don’t piss down my leg and tell ME it’s raining.
Paki, While I’m pleased to be bowl eligible, the “Get off my lawn” folks will be here shortly to point out how THEY have no interest (ironic that with no interest they would comment) in watching 6-6 teams and certainly not lower themselves to bask in the warm embrace of such a low-life achievement. And it doesn’t matter what damn uniforms they wear, just win! Who cares whether the players have fun or not, just win!
