GreywolfParticipant
When I parked on Trinity Rd for 5 or so years I used gate 5.
GreywolfParticipantThe incident on Shad was 6 months ago. The suspension was announce recently. Shad and Doeren probably knew about the suspension if no one else.
GreywolfParticipantI have a “sense of relief” every morning before I shower and shave and I haven’t produced as much sh!t as Ole Roy has talking about his players academic excellence.
GreywolfParticipantWhile wringing my hands over the OTs, I try to remember that Barr very nearly beat Chandler out for the starting RT job AND Jones was the defacto back-up at LT last year. How was that? Even though Jones never got in a game to burn his red-shirt he took second team snaps all season. He traveled and dressed out and fortunately he was never needed as Crisp stayed injury free.
What are legit unknowns are who will back up Barr and Jones. Nobody has been given the starting jobs and it’s possible that either Barr or Jones may not start. Should that occur it won’t be a bad thing, just meaning that we are deeper than we think at OT.
Also unknown is who are the back-ups on the interior. If Schooley goes down, Adams moves over to center but who moves into the RG slot. Thuney was out 4 games last year with some kind of virus. Who moves into the guard slots? Are Kennedy and Prescodd ready? If we can keep it together this year, our OL should be without worries next year. I doubt we will be caught with out pants down this year regardless.
And we do have 4 “preseason” games to get “game ready” before we start the ACC schedule.
IMO our PKs just need to be consistent, not spectacular. Our freshman LS looks to be as good if not better than Thompson and Hines may be the holder. I’d be more worried about a fake with Hines holding than I would the attempt. š
.GreywolfParticipant“I was just about to type 8-4, and then at the last second, thankfully I remembered: Oh yeah, weāre the Wolfpack.”
I get it. Wolfpack fans have lived through “Wolfpack sh!t” what seems like forever and it’ the first thing that crosses some of our minds when we think about our pack doing well. You are not alone having these thoughts.
We got a new coach and new players, all with a new attitude. Let’s retire the old “Wolfpack sh!t. “It’s time to generate a new Karma. Stopping Georgia Southern by causing a fumble on the 1 yard line and driving 99 yards to win by one is the new Karma.
Khan, consider going back and telling us what you really think inside the new Karma. I’m going out on a limb and saying 9-3. And I feel like I’m chicken sh!t for not saying 10-2.
GreywolfParticipantIt’s been a year since we last had serious conversations about football — well, not counting recruiting. Good to see some of us are still looking in the rear-view to see where we are going.
The incoming freshmen have some serious speed. We have serious depth at nearly all positions. We have the experience to execute, not think of what to do.
The lion and tiger may be stronger than the wolf but the wolf don’t work at the circus.

Who wouldn’t want to wrestle in this building. Our WBB, Volleyball, Gymnastics coaches have got to love the “new” WNRC. MBB won’t suffer for the Walk of Fame & History on campus.
IMNSHO renovating gives us the best of both world — our historic but up-graded basketball facility and first class Volleyball, Gymnastics and Wrestling.
While we are congratulating Debbie, give her boss, Randy a big thank you as well.
GreywolfParticipantI meant thin for the spring game. Both Alston and Cherry are hurt, and I believe neither will be playing today.
Sorry about that. I can see that now when I read it again.
It will be interesting to see if Ramos and Trowell step up. What I want to see is the expanded role for J-Sam and how RGII does running the ball. And of course the OL.
I’m trying desperately to curb my enthusiasm without much success. š
GreywolfParticipant“We will be pretty short-handed at the WR position, so not expecting a lot from the passing game.”
With Jonathan Alston JR, Bra’Lon Cherry JR, Jumichael Ramos JR, and Stephen Louis SO, returning at WR along with Jalen Samuels and Matt Dayes out of the backfield we are definitely NOT short-handed in the passing game.
Sure, we will miss Bo Hines and JVS but I’m more concerned with who we have than who we don’t have. Our passing game will provide as much if not more yardage this year than last year. Coach McDonald has done a great job with the receivers this spring. It looks like the “dropsies” have been cured.
Nyheim Hines in the slot is a more than adequate replacement for departing freshman, Bo Hines.
RSFR Maurice Trowell will add to the WR depth along with incoming FR Vernon Grier, Brian Sessoms, and Freddie Simmons. FWIW Sessoms has been clocked under 4.3 in the 40 by our staff. They couldn’t believe it and clocked him 4 times. That’s serious speed. Simmons has the hands, runs great routes and could be the possession receiver of the future.
The place to be concerned is the 4 starting tackles Who graduated — 2 OTs and 2 DTs. And that seems to be coming along nicely although injuries makes determining who will play where difficult to see this spring.
GreywolfParticipantI remember our lineman actually swapping pretty regularly last year so I have to believe our starters there have experience and are capable.
There was no “swapping” going on. Barr and Adams alternated at RG. When Thuney went our for 4 games, Barr moved to his guard. When Schooley was injured in UNC game, Barr was out with an injury (or illness.) Adams slide over to center and Andy Jomantas came in at RG.
Jomantas, Crisp and Chandler have graduated creating a talent gap on the OL. Injuries will occur. Hopefully our redshirts will be ready to step up.
The good news is Barr was competing with Chandler (74) for RT throughout fall camp and may have substituted for Chandler — giving him some experience at RT. The problem on the OL is replacing Crisp at LT, LT being crucial in that he protects the QB’s blind side in passing situations. No one subbed for Crisp the entire season as I recall.
At this point the leading candidate is redshirt freshman, Tyler Jones. Hopefully he or someone else will step in and do an adequate job. If we can’t protect our QB, we will have a long season.
GreywolfParticipantare there any surprise contributions coming in at WR / LB / CB or the DL?
Did you forget OL and nickel back? š
GreywolfParticipanthe seems to focus on the process over just wins and losses.
Agreed. His and the coaches attention is on basics and fundamentals, not smoke and mirrors.
If I were an opponent on our schedule, I would be afraid, very afraid.
GreywolfParticipantI guess that Herbie never taught the Sun whatevers to āchopā properly. He also seems to have only ONE defenseā¦.
I remember when folks asked him WHY he didnāt come up with a Junk Defense to shut JJ Redick down when he annihlated us in the ACC tourneyā¦he saidā¦.
We NEVER practiced that.
Herbieā¦..wish you wellā¦..
At least we did NOT fire you (but he did have I KNOW BB LF). And you gave them the last strands of your maneā¦.did they appreciate that? NOPEā¦.ungrateful crittersā¦.them Sun Whateversā¦.
The ole TOB excuse. Or maybe Tom got it from Herbie.
GreywolfParticipantSome interesting comments following the article. One commenter referred to State as moo u.
The commenter was from UNC-CH
GreywolfParticipantWell Syracuse got it handed to them with those sanctions. All while UNC still gets nothing for academic fraud that is far worse than Syracuse. What else can be said anymoreā¦.
Syracuse will be ready to play no doubt. We can certainly win this game if we play hard from the start and all the way through. If Turner and Lacey come out ice cold letās hope they sit and let the Martins/DEZ fill that role until they find their shot. We canāt afford for them to shoot until they find it this game.
Well, they sure came out cold shooting 1 for 8. Just curious, how do Lacy and Turner find their shot without shooting?
GreywolfParticipantDon’t talk about the farmers with your mouth full.
GreywolfParticipantPlagiarism Alert:
Seen hanging in the EweNC football center:
“This is a white-collar school, not a work ethic, hands in the dirt school,” Fedora said. “It’s a journalism school, a drama school, a philosophy school and a Swahili language school. It is founded by softies and swishers. That is what this football team will be, and that is what we were Nov. 29th.”
“Furthermore, it’s a lie that the Wolfpack ate our lunch. We withheld the meal money.”
GreywolfParticipantJust in case itās not clear, I love the quote.
It wasn’t clear and I’m glad you made it clear. “‘Tis better to have posted and had it deleted, than never to have posted at all” Either one would work. š
I’m waiting on “grumpy” to retract his POS comment.
It’s Doeren’s quote, but he didn’t hang it. It was hung by staff who want people entering the Murphy Center to know where they are and who they will be running with — if they are tough people, because that is what this football team will be…
.GreywolfParticipantIsn’t it wonderful that a couple of people can find something wrong with a quote that is almost universally being adopted as speaking who we of NC State and the players are? It’s the best descriptive statement defining our school I’ve seen in my 60 years of being associated with NC State. I don’t think we need to wait 15 years to display this. Nor do I think we will be throwing it in the trash — ever.
.
GreywolfParticipantThe late wolf gets the runs. š
GreywolfParticipantSo the question for me is, “Do the players like them?” The rest make zero difference to me. Actually I could care less what those of you who expressed your dislike, like.
The “State/NC State” decision was made at a higher level than athletics. I doubt the BOG made the call although I wouldn’t put it past them.
That “higher level” unfortunately for us fans wasn’t around during the “State” days and is not involved in the pissing contest the fans like myself are involved in with the bastards over on Brokeback Hill.
GreywolfParticipantSmart for recruiting. Prospects know the HC they signed with will be at that school for their time of enrollment.
GreywolfParticipantThat bill wouldn’t cover a weeks per diem for all their lawyers and PR folks. When you are throwing around the kind of money the holes are, $27,000 is chump change.
Hiring the Red Bull Pimp, Cheesestik and Bubba makes you wonder what the hell they are thinking or if they are thinking over in holesville.
Bubba! Makes me laugh every time I think about it. You gotta give ’em credit. They are de-emphasizing athletics. š
02/14/2015 at 6:14 AM in reply to: 247sports.com names u*nc as dark horse to make football playoff #74049GreywolfParticipantThe dark horse might turn out to be a black sheep. Love reading this football stuff.;-)
GreywolfParticipantI just thought I’d drop in and see what you guys were talking about.
Glad to entertain you Rick (keymaster), but what you call excuses I call facts. But again that is my take on the season. Donāt get the feeling you are on the Gottfried band wagon. But again that is just my take. Coaches donāt play the game, and if not for this coach, we would probably would lose by large margins, like we did under our former coach.
I hate burst your bubble but facts can be excuses. “We are young.” Fact and excuse. “We don’t have a big/true center.” Fact and excuse. Etc.
So we’ve got a coach who loses by smaller margins. Not exactly what excites me or anybody I know OR the AD.
Going back to reading about and discussing football. Have a nice day! š
