I have read calls for McClendon on other sites and was simply trying to gauge the feel of the posters on this site.

I think “comments on other sites” is the source of my misinterpreting your question as a statement. IMO we both are victims of haste: me in hastily reading your post and you in not formulating your question as a question.

There are too many posters on other boards, maybe here as well, who use a “question” or questions to disguise a thinly veiled put down or attack on the coaches and team. When I read your penultimate sentence, I thought that’s what you were doing.

I should have known better as you are not in my memory as that kind of guy. I apologize and promise to be more careful the next time I read one of your posts. Hell, I could even ask if I had any doubt. What a concept.

I was asking for the collective opinion of the smart posters here. I was not advocating.

“If the season is lost, then it is more reasonable to shift to the long view.”

Sorry Tau, since this was not a question I had trouble knowing you were asking a question. Had you put a question mark after the above sentence it would have helped understand that you were asking a question. Switching the “it” and the “is” around making it a question rather than a statement might have also helped.

    Mr. Dog,
I was going to run for the city limits once. I’d have made it if I’d been unopposed.

I’m with you. If I need to eat crow now and later I’m willing to do it. The players probably will get tomorrow off and Doeren will take the time to have a “come to Jesus” meeting with some coordinators and coaches.

If you need any help covering all the bets that people who think we won’t win another game, let me know.

I agree, I’m sure Brissett’s teammates don’t feel as critical of him as the fans. But it is the coaching staff, not the players, who have to make such decisions.

If he is making decisions based on what the fans think, God help him.

If the season is lost, then it is more reasonable to shift to the long view. I’m not saying it should be done, I was just asking the question.

Nobody asks a question like that unless they know or think they know the answer.

IMO unless Doeren thinks McClendon is the better QB, he’d best not throw the towel in while the players still have a chance to win games and have a successful season for the seniors. If the HC quits on his team, he may as well start looking for an assistant’s job somewhere.

Serious question. If this season turns into a death spiral, will Doeren start playing McClendon to get him reps for the future?

Do you really think throwing McClendon into a “death spiral season” is going to benefit him or the team? I don’t think Brissett’s teammates feel the same as the experts on these boards.

Canada did not have a good day…OVERALL. Except for the deep slant that got coughed up on the 5.

No…Brissett did not have a good day. OL did not have a very good day.

Exactly what the fux would you guys be calling from the booth today? Huh?

Are you asking what plays Canada could call to cause Brissett and the OL to have a good day?

WTF Mr. Dog? These boards are for pissing and moaning and smart-arsed remarks, not serious football questions.

You have got me thinking, what COULD Canada have called that would shift Brissett and the OL to having a good day? We want Brissett to hit receivers on vertical passes in stride for a half dozen TDs when he’s skipping the ball in the dirt at 7 yards. We want him to hit deep crossing routes while rolling out when he’s having trouble hitting himself in the arse with either hand standing in the pocket.

But Canada could correct all that by, by, by ugh, by what? What call corrects those things?

Greywolf, move on. Let’s not be that team that says that website, blog (newspaper) has it out for us. That’s a long time of bitter.

Good advice. (My wife told me the same thing — just not as nicely as you.)

I wish it were as easily done as agreeing to do it. I was here during the Valvano years as this rag called the N&O ripped him to shreds without even pretending to not be biased. See, there I go again. ;-(

Once more I will repeat what others have stated. It was the consistant inability to put the team above himself.

I was a kid who regularly got into trouble. Not once did the thought to “put _________first” (fill in the blank) cross my mind when I pulled one of my stunts. I don’t believe the thought of putting the team first or not ever crossed Shad’s mind. If there was someone there to say it, would putting the team first be his choice? Based on what little actual evidence available I’d say he’d choose to put his team first.

Our thoughts are not under our control. We have them. We can’t change them either. We can have another, different thought and/or we can think (which is different from ‘having thoughts’).

Strangely enough it seems as though we don’t have thoughts, thoughts have us — by the back of the neck leading us to do and say things we wouldn’t do or say if we had the presence of mind to actually think of the consequences. And that, ladies, is what I believe was the difficulty Shad had.

Rye…I don’t believe the media had a damned thing to do with it.

Rye can speak for himself but IMO he really didn’t intend to put any blame on the media. I got a little pissed myself seeing Shad’s little bump called a crash by the media. The N&O had an above the fold story on the front page of the Sports page. When did an accidental hitting of a pedestrian by a moped become that kind of news. Our neighbors have 4 scholarship players beat up a walk-on and it doesn’t get mentioned. WTF?

He shoulda been gone when he slapped around that girl. No excuses

I do believe if he had “slapped around that girl” he would be gone. Shad has learned some lessons the hard way but it sounds like he is learning. I can’t put myself in his place because I don’t know the culture he grew up in.

IMO Doeren was trying to work with a young man who was worth working with. Shad sounded like he knew he had to be dismissed and didn’t fault Doeren for what he had to do.

If Shad was a bad kid he would not have been elected to the leadership council by his peers.

We don’t need to make excuses but we also don’t need to paint him with a broad brush as a bad apple either.

Hey kid, jump on the back of my moped and I’ll take you to the infirmary. No, that won’t work.

Let me hang around (for what) and miss curfew. I didn’t want to get wet Saturday anyway. And for sure Coach will kick me off the team if I do.

    Catch 22.

And the righteousness comments are sickening. None of you ever broke a law, like J-walking across Hillsborough st. or drinking under age? Or rode a moped on the side-walk to keep from getting killed on Western Blvd or Avent Ferry Rd.

What’s next, call the police to report an accident when you bump somebody with a grocery cart in the grocery store?

Let’s get righteous about decisions and all that crap but when I think about it, I don’t see what he did that I would have done different. The “crash” that the N&O wrote about occurred at about 9:15. (A college kid is suppose to know all the fine print of the law but the freaking newspaper don’t know a bump from a “crash.”) So I’m riding home on a dark, drizzling night on the sidewalk — don’t want to be a statistic in a hit and run — and I need to be home before curfew.

I bump some kid I didn’t see and stop to see if he’s OK. He says he is and I head on home. No property damage and no apparent injury. (The 2 fingers needed a bandaid each and you couldn’t see the lip damage from a frontal view.) I don’t want to violate team curfew so I make a bad decision and head on home.

The officer who “arrested” Shad must be real proud of himself. I wonder how many people he’s let go for far more serious and real law breakings. Wow! He got to ruin a kids senior year of college football for something so minor that most people don’t even know that what he did violated a law.

Do I think that Doeren did the right thing? Yes. Do I think Shad got “special treatment”? You darn right I do.

I’m retired and don’t have 2 spare dimes but I’d like to see the truth about this written up and if the police or the N&O are guilty of any wrong doing, sue their ass.

Jalem Samuels should get at least 3 of those 6 points. Without Samuels Dayes has a 5 to 7 yard run.

Next week’s opponent is even so we will have to keep improving.

We are favored by about 16, not even. Not that we can waltz in and win going away.

I sometimes forget that the “line” we get is based on how much is being bet on one team or the other, not relative strengths. If you looked at last year’s record, you would think all our games would be closer than they are.

We need him (Hines) and Cherry to develop into vertical threats by the time we play equal talent….without that dimension we are not a complete offense.

Romos and perhaps Trowell are deep threats. Our offense is apparently a ball control offense and a successful running game coupled with short passes to sure handed receivers is the key to a control offense. Our pass success rate and out TOP are/were leading the nation. We still are over 40 minutes TOP. Don’t know yet if Jacoby slipped from #1 after (for him) a sub-par passing performance.

We don’t run a spread offense to throw the ball, we use the spread to run the ball. If we get in situations where we need to throw deep and the DBs back off, our short passes with good RAC rates will do just fine. Until then I really like the way we are operating. Losing the TOP battle is discouraging and tends to create anxiety and force errors.

What we have is a FBS game on the road that we in all probability will win without stressing out the fans. I very much like how Coach is being about it. Using it to prepare his team for bigger on the road games coming up, talking it up as a recruiting advantage, getting game experience for some first timers.

I’m reasonably sure that if we were playing Ohio State Doeren would be looking for and finding the reasons that was the game we needed. Those reasons would be as valid as the reasons for playing ODU in Norfolk.

As fans some of us try to find, make up really because all the reasons are made up, reasons that make the coaches and administration look like incompetent fools. It’s been 2 years now that we have pissed and moaned about the schedule. We aren’t interested in the circumstances that lead to this, we only want to gripe, complain and make the staff wrong.

Some say we can’t learn anything about our team with this kind of game/schedule. There are lots of things we can learn about our team playing these games and some things we can’t learn. That we cannot determine how we stack up against P-5 competition is true — until we play several P-5 teams.

I’ve ordered a pizza and intend to sit back and enjoy the game. We have lots of questions we could answer tonight: will Jay-Sam continue to score at the pace he has started out, will Hines break bad tonight. I even wonder if we will put our 350 pounder up against their 360 pound guard. That might be a bit unfair — senior vs. freshman — but interesting but we will find out if BJ Hill is up to the task.
