—————–
Some DEFENSIVE STATS to remember…59 yds rushing
54 yds pashing
1 blocked punt for a TD
1-14 on third down
2-4 on fourth down1 penalty in the first half…
NO penalties in the second half..
2 fumbles recovered…
1 pass interception…
ZERO, NADA,ZIP big plays over 20yds….As suggested earlier… everybody on Defense gets a GAMEBALL…
AND for one more, for a Walk On… the TWELFTH MAN….
Matthew… I missed his last name…AND ONE for the Defensive COACHING staff..
And one for the DC, Hux.
GreywolfParticipantonly McClendon, rest of the day. Something happened to Finley’s brain.
That one was on Gallaspy or whoever for having Gallaspy in there instead of Dayes.
GreywolfParticipantHurricane Matthew not allowed in NC by the NCAA due to HB2.
GreywolfParticipantWord of caution: Hurricane Matthew is going to skip North Carolina due to HB2.
GreywolfParticipantGuess if we get another blog, we can title it, WFU?
Let’s hope it’s not another WTF. 🙁
GreywolfParticipantHe graduated in May, 1968 with a BS in Engineering Operations
Engineering Operations: referred to in my day as Easy Out.
GreywolfParticipantFully supported the hiring of DD, but need to see results. Hell, even a blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while… Got nothing against DD as a man and how he handles the players, but damn… Find me a nut.
Well said. These are my sentiments exactly.
GreywolfParticipantI think it is naive to think this in year four. Maybe from the AD but I don’t believe so from the fans. For example, I talked to a former Sheridan player recently and he was ready to wash his hands of DD.
3 seasons and 3 games is IMO too short a time to judge a coach rebuilding a program. Montgomery stepped into a relatively stable program. Fedora did also. Doeren did not.
I said it badly about how we play verses the record. I had in mind playing 6 teams in the top 25 at the start of the season. Were we in the Coastal Div our conference record would be a more valid measurement for acceptable progress.
If the program is as bad as some say it is, we are in for a new HC who will get 3 years to become a top 25 team. Then wash, rinse, repeat. If the program is in good shape, get behind the guy the 4th and 5th year.
If we fire every coach we hire who does not rise to the top of the Atlantic Division at the start of his 4th year, we might as well disband football and spend the money on soccer, LaX and field hockey.
GreywolfParticipantShorty’s in Wake Forest. Been there forever. Good dogs.
You got that right.
I’ve had a hot dog with mustard, chili and slaw and a Bromoseltzer to wash it down at Uzzle’s Soda shop next to Norman’s about 10,000 times. The Bromo served double duty: to wash down the dog and to help with the hangover from last night.
There’s a place on Main Street in Wendell that has great dogs, too.
GreywolfParticipantGreywolf, do I sense a note of humour? You old bastard you!!!
Busted!
But the defensive issues worried me much more than the QB or receivers situation, which was worry enough.
Yeah, defense is worrisome but it may be early for real concern.
Consider this: 2013 we were in a 4-3 defense. 2014 we switched to a 4-2-5. Very different. 4-2-5 is new for EVERYONE, coaches included. 2015 should have been a better year on defense but it didn’t turn out that way. IMO our problems on offense kept our D on the field far more than it is reasonable to expect. The problem with Shad and the injury to Dayes took a toll on both sides of the ball.
This is 2016 and we should be in better shape. Already our number 1 D is playing far better. Our #2 D isn’t playing as well as I would like to see.
Sounds like a lot of excuses and there is that. 2017 there are no reasons or excuses. The only reasons to be in 2017 will be talent (players) and scheme (coaches). Our sisters in Chapel Hill have a poor defense. They have one of the top DCs in the business. good position coaches and a lot of 4-star players yet they are a poorly performing defense. Fedora started out with the 4-2-5 for the same reasons Doeren did but he bailed on it and brought in Cheezstiks and went back to the 4-3. Offensively that’s comparable to bailing on a spread type offense and going back to 2 WRs because you have some breakdowns in installing the spread type offense.
The holes have had more success in scoring defense. There’s a simple explanation for that. In the red zone the 4-3 is less vulnerable vs the spread type offenses.
The above is no more than a likely story but a story that has me enjoying the Pack and what Doeren is doing far more than a sad story. 😉
Don’t give up on the Pack. We are going to catch a break or 2 this year. God knows we are due.
GreywolfParticipantI can’t put much faith in an institution that required me to meet a structural engineer from the physical plant to examine the possible damage to the bricks from the pickup truck and pig cooker I want to pull across the brickyard.
All that AFTER I filled out two pages of paperwork to request the ability to cook a pig on the brickyard.
Did you have to request the ability to cook a pig on the brickyard or was it permission you had to request? They are different, you know.
I was superintendent on a portion of the installation of the brickyard. The bricks are laid on compacted sand. I find requiring you to meet a structural engineer to be in your as well as the “institution’s” best interest.
GreywolfParticipantGrey – I didn’t say that. I just said that the loss makes his job more difficult and success less likely.
I could agree that his job might be more difficult. I was responding to your statement “the selling becomes quite difficult.
Another losing conference record will do the same. Every recruit is different. But most with the option want to play for a team that is going to play nationally significant games.
It’s too soon to say we have a losing conference record this year. How we compete will be more important than the record at this stage of our program build. If we screw the pooch in the L’ville, FSU, Miami, Clemson and EweNC games, it will be more difficult. The ND game should give us as much info as to how we are doing as the ECU game.
I think DD is ethically doing things the right way – and I expect nothing less. I would prefer it if he could get the Carter rocking.
I think it would make his job much easier.
More than ethically… the young men who go through his program will be better men and better prepared for life.
It’s hard to get Carter rocking with 80% of the fans in the parking lot in the 4th quarter. You don’t see that at Clemson, FSU, L’ville, Tennessee, South Caroling, etc.
GreywolfParticipantRumor is after the loss to ECU, they decided Greenville was a better fit and program.
If they think ECU is a better fit, it probably is especially if they decided that after one game. Better to lose them now than later. I wish them success there.
GreywolfParticipantBut when you are no longer the new thing and you have nothing established to sell, the selling becomes quite difficult.
Fortunately recruits have parents and coaches to mentor them and advise them. The problem we fans have with evaluating what we “have to sell” is we don’t know from squat what “sells” to recruits and their families. Not every recruit is going to choose ECU over NC State because ECU won with a new coach. Many parents will be looking at the value of the education available at NC State. Many will want their sons in a program where citizenship, character, family orientation, and the value of their sons associating with other young men who value the same. Some parents care if their sons are mentored by men of character and values and associate with other young men with the same outlook — not that Scotty Montgomery doesn’t have character and values. But nobody from NC State has tortured and killed a small dog to get even with his girl friend. We have had one or 2 dismissed for riding a mo-ped on the side-walk and a few others suspended for violating team rules.
GreywolfParticipantHe’s a keymaster. And we ALL know keymasters thoughts ARE more significant than anyone else’s
amiright?
Well, yeah. 🙂
GreywolfParticipantI told you all back in the summer that October and November were not going to be fun.
And I thought last summer that you telling us blah, blah, blah was rather arrogant — that your thoughts were some how more significant than ours. No issue with you expressing your views but… you telling us like you know something special? I don’t think so.
This is just my way of saying “Kiss my arse” to the Gentleman’s rules of order comment in the OP.
As far as fun is concerned I plan on having lots of fun watching WFU, ND, FSU and Miami in Carter-Finley and the others on TV. If State had to win for me to have fun watching, I wouldn’t be a STH. Honestly I think way to much importance is place on whether we win or not to evaluate the Pack. Sure I like to win and think it’s important to try to win — within the limits we set for ourselves.
TOB had the misfortune of having his staff’s health go south — that and having a non-recruiting staff member, Tenuta. Frankly I like the morals, leadership and integrity he brought to NC State.
I think we can win with his Champions in the Community, Champions in the Classroom and Champions on the field vision for NC State football. Doeren is building on this vision. It’s entirely possible we may never (although I believe we will) have a Champions on the field football team but we will have Champions in the Community and Champions in the Classroom. I like that I don’t have to hang my head when character and academics of our football program are brought up.
Building a program based on family, integrity, ethics and hard work will take longer than building a program based in academic fraud and other forms of cheating, under-the-table payments, and getting hoodlums admitted by teaching them to cheat on “learning disability” tests because they are 4-star recruits.
You have to ask yourself how does NC State land a Thad Moss, who could go just about anywhere? It’s not our winning record or winning head coach. Or ask yourself why Joe Scelfo transfers to NC State. Or Finley. There are others, such as Nyhiem Hines with character, who were highly recruited elsewhere who elected to come to NC State.
I’m not impressed with Dave Doeren’s game coaching. Sometimes I wonder if he is doing something besides trying every trick to win games. I wonder if he is making a bigger point when he does some of he things he does. I’m more concerned with his building a program than I am his W/L right now.
I think our, the fans, negativity effects the team. I worry that it effects recruiting. There may have been 10,000 fans at the end of the ODU game. We had some recruits there who are looking at our football program and community. Exiting early demonstrates a “I don’t care about this team” attitude that the recruits could hardly miss. Being in our seats cheering — that and our donations — is about all we can do we as fans can do. And we have people on this board bragging about predicting that October and November are not going to be fun.
Again, I intend to have fun 4 more times this year in Carter-Finley Stadium.
Go Pack!
GreywolfParticipantTroll…
ain’t GOTT enough cold ones to make this game exciting…
one or the other is making me sleepy…Troll…
ain’t GOTT enough cold ones to make these comments entertaining or amusing.GreywolfParticipantAs long as Hux is the DC, everyone we play has a chance to stay within three scores
What an original thought!! Haven’t read anything like that more than 50 or so times.
GreywolfParticipantBackup kick returning is seldom something I enjoy watching. Balls tend to get juggled
Couldn’t be any worse than that last KO last week…
GreywolfParticipantThanks for the memories…
GreywolfParticipantIs it still open?
Good question. Why do you ask?
GreywolfParticipantPer title: My answer, with 10 games still on the board is, hell no, I haven’t quit. Why would I, post September 10th?
Dog, I’m in.
Disappointed? Yes.
Throwing in the towel with 10 games to go? Don’t be ridiculous.GreywolfParticipantI heard from the same reliable sources that Mary stayed on campus for our game. A good thing too. I also heard that the Wolfpack is not Western Carolina and will be more for ECU to handle. That also is as it should be.
GreywolfParticipantI’ve heard from reliable sources that ECU is not William and Mary. Does this make any difference?
GreywolfParticipantWell, I for one, fVcking hate the Pirates. They can kiss my fuzzy ass. Plz to not lose.
