GreywolfParticipant
I don’t care how good looking woman is, there’s a man somewhere whose tired of her sh!t. That is how it is for me with MG. He looked real good when we hired him but now… I would bet too that you guys are wrong about the BUDDY thing. I imagine Debbie Yow has heard about all she can stand from the big donors about Mark.
She probably sold the biggies on Dave fairly easily. If I were a betting man, I’d put my money on DD, not against him. Why? He’s a committed man and a darn hard worker. That’s a hard combination to beat. And we saw in Chapel Hill he ain’t gonna give up on you.
Mark? What have you got to sell? Recruits good but screws the pooch when the game is on the line. How much time does it take to turn a basketball team around? What’s it been now? 6 years?
I think I’ve said it before, IMO she should go and meet with her boss and lay it on the line. Doeren appears to have his ducks lined up but I have screwed up with Gottfried and I don’t know what to do. Can we talk?
GreywolfParticipantI watched out bowl game so I tripled my NCSU football seeing.
Good one, Rick. With the way basketball is going, any sense of humor deserves recognition.
I stand by my statement, revenue sports are not in a good place and apparently the only refutation you have of that statement is a preseason prediction.
When you watched the bowl game, did you see anything you liked? Did you notice on 3rd downs our SEC opponent was 2 out of 11? Did you notice our TE have a performance that along with his other accomplishments, earned him an All America nomination? How about a KO return of 100 yards for a TD? How about a pick 6? Do these accomplishments indicate a slide into oblivion to you?
I gather you didn’t watch but did you hear about a big win to reach bowl status vs our biggest rival — who just happens to be nationally ranked — in their house? Indicative of a slide into oblivion? Hardly.
One of our coaches turned down HC of his alma mater to stay with the Pack. There’s more but this should be enough. The “more” is behind the scenes stuff that I grant if you weren’t looking for it would not be easy to see as program progression.
All these things are why IMO we were preseason ranked in the top 25. You won’t see these things looking in your rear view mirror. I can also see how a basketball fan would not be impressed by preseason ranking. I wouldn’t either. I will give you this much, basketball is discouraging. I’m following your football viewing practice and I’ve used up half of my 30 minutes when we stunk it up 2 weeks ago.
I’ve got to do something about this sudden urge to write about Wolfpack football so I called the Incontinence Hot line. They asked me if I could hold.
GreywolfParticipantGrey,
That cuts both ways though. Not really much of an accomplishment if it’s easier to get the women’s and Olympic type sports good. The real meat and potatoes would be to get our revenue sports in the top 25. It takes timing, lots of luck, some mastery of the AD craft, and probably lots of hard work.
Overall, I’d give her an incomplete I guess. If I was forced to give her a letter grade, right now C+ sounds about right.
Of course it is an accomplishment. We’ve moved from 84th to 12th. I don’t care what league you are playing in, that’s an accomplishment.
Incomplete is fair especially in football. Grading them separately I’d say she failed in MBB. Time to sit down with her boss and plan a strategy to replace MG.
Hang tight with football. There is way more than meets the eye there. The W/L record for 2016 is an anomaly. Our football program in every way, except the one most of us can see (W/L), is ahead of the curve. We are building a foundation for the near and distant future. DD is responsible for the IPF, locker room upgrade, additions to support staff (that we can’t see), our coaching staff is a fine combination of people and coaches, and our athletes are high character young men with great work ethics.
Dave is accused of bonehead decisions by people who are clueless about what they are talking about. All the modern day HC does on his own is cheerlead and pass out ‘attaboys.’ All the rest are decisions made with various degrees of input from assistants in the booth. The bottom line is on the HC but he doesn’t watch live action and film for tells that indicate whether or not a punt/kick or fake is going to work. Most decisions are pianolas based on time and distance.
I don’t know how to say this accurately but Dave Doeren has enrolled administration, Coaches, Support Staff, players, etc., in his vision and his stand for NC State football. State football is in much better shape today than its ever been. No, the W/L doesn’t reflect that yet. It will.
Soon we will have video support for recruiting that will expertly show case and create enthusiasm for our program. The head of that department will be on the recruiting staff. Even without this we are attracting attention and interest from a better talent level recruit. It is only going to get better.
Now step back and watch the loyal State Fans attack in a feeding frenzy this positive post. It’s like Bob Dylan wrote in one of his earlier songs, “Some people ain’t got much food on the table but they got a lot of forks and knives and they gotta cut something.”
GreywolfParticipantLet me get this straight, a woman had improved or titled sports while letting the men’s revenue sports slide into oblivion.
A woman letting men’s revenue sports slide into oblivion? Football is a preseason top 25 predicted team. And where was basketball when MG took the reins?
Not biased against women are you Rick? Your post is a shameful display of chauvinism. Get real. Like it or not women today are succeeding in all areas of endeaver.
I call it like I see it. And its cute that you think a preseason prediction is some type of proof of anything.
A prediction is NOT proof of anything but it is more substantial than the opinion of someone who by his own admission watched a full 30 minutes of Wolfpack football last season.
If you are going to call them like you see them, you might want to take the binders off.
GreywolfParticipantThere is more competition in the revenue sports. not as easy to succeed. No mystery.
Come on StateRed44. Nobody is interested in the reasons football and basketball are not doing as well as we want them to.
Glad you stepped up with this. I was going to say the same thing but I’m really shy and couldn’t take the DY haters blasting me for having the audacity to tell the truth about men’s revenue sports. Good on you.

GreywolfParticipantSurely we can find a reason to fire him for cause.
maybe you were saying that tongue in cheek, but if we were to do that what coach in their right mind would ever come coach here as his replacement?
Is this a trick question? You know something is off when AT and I agree.
You guys don’t seem to be having any fun here. Maybe I should post something about football to provide a fresh outlet to take out your frustrations. Heck, I got broad shoulders. I can take it. If not, I’ll just call in The DOG. 🙂
GreywolfParticipantShe is consistent.
Same pattern at merryland.
Very smooth put down. The subtleness is outstanding.
I didn’t realize merryland was ranked in the top 25 when she left. Thanks for the info.
GreywolfParticipantHoly cow, Buck. If’n them folk would count men’s sports like
huntingrifle and fishing, we’d be number one. Tain’t right.GreywolfParticipantanother genius who wants to have LoBrown over DSJ!!!
No, just another poster hoping against all odds, Alias Troll could see that his posting of scoring %, rebounding %, etc., stats did not equal running the offense.
And no I’m not fool enough to go back through your 60 +/- posts and try to find “the original argument.” If I didn’t care enough to read them the first time, I damn sure ain’t going to read them now.
GreywolfParticipantLo Brown, without the benefit of watching practice and being with the team ahead of Gott’s arrival, was light years ahead of DSJ with respect to running this offense.
sorry not done with you yet…
Lorenzo Brown (freshman year) vs DSJ
==================================
FG%: 41.3% vs 46% (WINNER DSJ)
3pt %: 32.1% vs 38.4% (WINNER DSJ)
Free throw %: 71.3% vs 75.2% (WINNER DSJ)
Avg Rebounds: 3.68 vs 4.2 (WINNER DSJ)
Avg Assists: 3.74 vs 6.4 (WINNER DSJ)The only meaningful stats LoBrown was better is blocks (by the tiniest margin) and turnovers (by the tiniest margin.. DSJ averages 1 more than LoBrown per game).
Please explain what aspects of the game that LoBrown was “light years ahead of DSJ” in. Light years…. c’mon man!
Alias,
Do you think individual stats equal running the offense? Or giving you the benefit of the doubt did you not understand the comparison was running the offense? Maybe things have changed but it used to be that running the offense meant having your teammates have great stats, not you. Smith is one and done. If he didn’t try to run my offense and make his teammates better, he’d do one and done on his ass on the bench. You can put all the lipstick you want on this pig, it ain’t gonna make it pretty.
GreywolfParticipantIs returning for his Senior season! Our defensive line is going to be great, linebackers will be good, and DB’s ………. ehhhhhhhh. Still exciting!
– Optimistic State Fan –
I don’t know exactly what “ehhhhhhh?” means but “still exciting” is pretty clear. Do you know something or are you just dumping on the DBs?
IMO if the DL is great and puts pressure on QBs, the coverage skills of Stevens, McCloud and a few of the RFr and Freshmen corners the pass defense will be “exciting” in a different way this year. NIK back Trae Meadows had an INT his first play from scrimmage in the Vandy game showing off some pretty good coverage skills. State did have 3 INTs vs Vandy.
I realize it’s fashionable to bad mouth the football team on SFN but at least give it a chance before we start in on the DBs the first week in January.
GreywolfParticipantIf they can catch the obvious flop such as this during the game it should result in a bench warning.
The NHL has the right idea. They call it embellishment and it’s a 2 minute penalty. If you are tripped and go down with the intention to influence the officiating, you get penalized for it. Send the other team to the foul line for a 1 and 1 when you flop and I believe we would see less flopping.
Benefiting from faking being fouled isn’t what the game of basketball is about IMO.
GreywolfParticipantGreat news Kitchens has decided to stay with the Pack! I guess a nice raise will do that.
In all probability Des was offered a nice raise but people who are not committed to an organization and it’s leadership rarely, if ever, turn down a better opportunity for a financial counter offer. On the other hand Des does wear glasses. Perhaps he can’t see what many on this board see.
Reading between the lines I say that Des made his decision based on seeing true progress and a bright future in our program. It would be tough to turn down a head-coaching job at your alma mater if you felt otherwise.
Des staying certainly says that he doesn’t see a sinking ship here at NC State and the future that some of us profess to see. Like it or not, it says he believes in Doeren and Doeren’s leadership and the direction this program is heading.
We have other coaches who likely have been offered opportunities to come coach at other, more successful schools. Ryan Nielsen comes first to mind as a viable defensive coordinator candidate. I’m thinking that Drinkwitz and Ledford also saw what Kitchings sees when they cast their lot with Doeren.
It’s easy to discount Doeren by citing his W/L record both over all and in the conference. Yet I have to draw the conclusion when a member of the coaching staff such as Des Kitchings chooses to stay with Doeren that there is more to DD than what the W/L indicates especially with the kind of opportunity DK turned down.
Go Pack!!
GreywolfParticipantI’m with Roo on this one… and I went back and viewed the game again. As far as ND throwing the ball, if they hadn’t I don’t think they would have had a first down. After we realized they were going to throw and the run wasn’t a factor ND could hardly complete a pass. It wasn’t a matter of ND not trying to run, it was more of they couldn’t run.
I also think after reviewing the play my self the illegal receiver down field call on our TD was iffy at best. The receiver was lined up a full yard off the ball. If a guard was lined up that far back we’d be flagged for too many men in the back field.
And what’s with all the hurraw over at the basketball game. When the football team beat up on a cupcake, it’s all you heard. Not so with BB team. “They really looked good and will be a force to be reckoned with if they play like this every night…” and they play cupcakes every night.
GreywolfParticipantL’ville has admitted that Galloway and Elrod talked during the week of the Wake-L’ville game and information was passed on to the defensive staff. L’ville calls it “undue” attention on their program at a time they are preparing for their bowl game.
Army is next.
GreywolfParticipantThis guy was co-coordinator for pass offense or something like that. The other co-coordinator coaches at L’ville.
GreywolfParticipantAnd I will be 35 yrs clear from anything meant for horses.
I’ll be 54 yrs clear of anything tasting like it came from horses.
GreywolfParticipantCD-Nothin’ that catastrophic-everyone here probably remembers the worst hangover that they ever had-that was mine-classic ‘if I had a gun the next AM, I would not be here’…
Prayed all morning I wouldn’t die, all afternoon I would.
GreywolfParticipantFruit cakes and penial failure, oh my at the Christmas treasures the Lord doth provide!
McCallum
Make your jokes now ’cause in your older years with the meds you have to take, it won’t be quite so funny. ;-(
GreywolfParticipantI don’t know about Greywolf….but I am only 9 days older than President Elect Donald J. Trump…..
I’m only 9 years older than Donald J. Trump. A lot can happen in those 9 years. My Johnson passing away was the most notable happening. I’m still mourning the passing but at least I don’t find it hard getting up in the morning.
Until a few years before the dreaded passing I had sex almost every day — almost on Monday, almost on Tuesday, almost every day.
Now to get serious about ‘etc.’ part of the OP. My mother, God bless her, made what we called wine jelly to eat with the fruit cake with a dab of whipped cream on it. Wine jello for you city folk was what y’all call jello and what I called some good sh!t.
Those 2 old ladies passing through were just too darn old to give 2 cents about being PC. In their time being queer wasn’t such a prestigious event as it is for some now.
Speaking of “queer,” using the expression “queer as a 3 dollar bill” didn’t used to get you cited by the PC police? Anybody else old enough to remember when a sanitation engineer was a garbage man?
My thanks to McCallum for starting this thread. First thread in months I’ve read on this site that didn’t piss me off before I got all the way through. 😉
GreywolfParticipantCanada has a big mouth. It follows him.
I knew Canada and I had something in common. Now if I could just create offense like he can.
GreywolfParticipantyeah, problems with NC high school stuff was the final straw. Still doesn’t mean DD doesn’t have a micromanagement problem.
IMO it’s not so much micromanagement but getting in on the play calling and going conservative — call it what you will, meddling, interference, etc. There is just too much to manage in the modern day football program to micromanage — besides offense there’s S&C, recruiting, and a bunch of other stuff the HC needs to be the policy maker in and to lead.
IMO aggressiveness needs to be a part of our identity along with the tough, physical, hands in the dirt identity. An aggressive philosophy is attractive on both sides of the ball to recruits. It’s a “let’s go win this sucker” attitude and not what sometimes appears to be ‘let’s not lose this sucker.’
We can call DD’s decisions ‘boneheaded’ if it makes us feel better but on closer examination I think we’d find those bonehead decisions to be a reflection of being overly conservative. Just saying…
GreywolfParticipantThere were rumors of friction with HS coaches in clinics.
The thing about play calling can be corrected IF that is the problem. Hard to correct friction with HS coaches. Disagreement about offense philosophy is the go to reason OC are let go. Something vague that doesn’t really make the HC or the OC to be at fault. If I had to bet, I’d go with the HS coaches friction as the culprit. DD invested a lot in healing previous relationship issues with HS coaches.
GreywolfParticipantJMc doesn’t seem like the kind of person to think Possibly starting at another school is more important than his education. I hope he is thinking about doing what it takes to be the next starter, rather than where to transfer to where the competition is not so stiff.
