GowolvesParticipant
USMNT already down 1-0 to Columbia. Klinsmann needs to go if the US fails to perform well. I mean advance.
GowolvesParticipantI have just watched 2 days of DII College WS, in Cary.
Marvelous that breaking balls don’t give catchers fits.
One of those catchers used to be one of ours…Mangum. This club is quite good, but in the end…solely dependent on a tiredish pitching staff.
I was out three tonight watching the Lander Bearcats playing. Got family in the Lander athletic department. The ump tonight had generous corners tonight. To be fair it was both ways. You are right a ton of breaking stuff tonight. The catcher for Millersville was all thumbs.
GowolvesParticipantCoach Horton passed away this morning. RIP, coach.
GowolvesParticipantFSU=dumb ass base running.
GowolvesParticipantWho is on the mound today for both teams?
GowolvesParticipant@ Gowolves. Because the kid could not find the plate! That entire inning screamed show me, first.
Well then I can’t say your wrong. I missed most of that inning. Just Kizners AB and the one before.
GowolvesParticipantFinally someone takes a freakin’ strike. Lead to a walk and a run…but Jesushchristinasidecar! Take a strike!
Sarcasm? That first pitch was the one. Why take it?
GowolvesParticipantKizner at bat was a perfect example to swing at that first pitch. Yeah the last batter walked on four straight but you knew he would be aiming on the first pitch to the next batter. He was taking all the way. That first pitch was money.
GowolvesParticipantNeed to get at least one here. There it is.
GowolvesParticipantHad to give up my tix to this one unfortunately but watched it on the tres. I don’t think scouting of pitchers is a big problem, not as this level. No doubt it could help, but plate discipline imo is the bigger issue with this bunch. It’s always a problem as far as I can tell. i don’t know hitting coaches there but it seems constant since Avent’s been the skip. Few teams have I seen who come out hacking at so many first pitches. Last night is case in point. Later in the game, the counts went deeper, they saw more pitches, we squared up balls. More chances for pitcher to make mistakes, better timing, the list goes on and on. Rain, rain, rain. Situational hitting is an area where we struggle. We got key two out hits but it’s the approach that’s important. Deatherage last night, late in game, bunts for a hit with 2 down with the lead and momentum. Just another example. I don’t care how well you run or if the infield is all playing on the grass. Swing the bat in that situation.
I agree it is pervasive at the college level. Speaking with a UNC grad who played for them back in the early 80’s said the same thing about Fox. Taking a lot of pitches. UNC, I think is in the top five in the nation in walks. I am just not one of those one size fits all people. Seems like plate discipline has gotten confused with the concept of work the count. Its about leverage at the plate. If that first pitch was what you expected and/or its your type of pitch then jump on it. You may not see it again. That’s just my opinion.
GowolvesParticipantWell they did what was expected but not given as it relates to Pack sports. Even more so when it’s against those people. This team is probably the most consistent when it comes to expectations. Pretty even keel. When they face above average pitching they tend to struggle. Of course when I say above average pitching I mean in the context of the Pack hitters. They hit well. In a three game series against the Pack I trust they will eventually get the advantage at the plate more often than not. They have to do better scouting pitchers. They need to be ready early. I get it sometimes batting around to get a feel for what he’s doing but with the bats being quite lately they need to counter.
GowolvesParticipantEar wick for MVP.
GowolvesParticipantBall game!
GowolvesParticipantThrow that nasty!
GowolvesParticipantMy condolences WP. Nothing like a good neighbor.
GowolvesParticipantHey hey chopper. Had him cutting. F*cking fly swatter!
GowolvesParticipantY’all know that I gave Avent my old cell phone, right?
Did you delete all the good 1-800 lines? If you did then I blame you for the snake bite.
You beat me WP! ?
GowolvesParticipantok the bats are coming back. I would love to see the hitting srteak stay alive. I think I might have worked with Briley who currently holds the record. Didn’t even know it. Let’s bat around.
GowolvesParticipantNothing more pretty than a sweeping breaking ball.
GowolvesParticipantBoom. Let’s put some runs up!
GowolvesParticipantI love our bullpen.
GowolvesParticipantThat’s alright. Just took a little time to get adjusted. Still not out of the woods as far as getting the bats going. Let’s get a 1,2,3 inning.
GowolvesParticipantany surprise we’ll lose this game, lose this series?
Why are you really here? Go post on the chicken little thread.
GowolvesParticipantHitting is struggling right now. Not getting good contact at the plate. Timing and pitch anticipation is not there.
GowolvesParticipantGot out of that jam. I have a feeling that runs will be at a premium again.
