That was a good call. The replay showed his foot coming off.

The color guy on ESPN3 is absolutely stupid. One asinine comment after another.

I agree 67 we might see him sooner than expected. It’s hard to say though, one inning could change a lot of things. If it stands like it is going to the 7th I think he will be in.

What was that call about from the third base umpire? I missed the beginning of the whole thing.

Very curious to see who Avent starts tomorrow. The only 3 pitchers that one could easily assume State would start in the regional were Brown, Wilder, and Piedmonte. Now, who is up? My guess would be Adler since he hasn’t pitched but about 1 IP on Saturday. You can pull Orwig out for 2-3 Innings, and Gilbert hasn’t been needed yet so he could give 2-3 innings as well.

Chris Williams uncharacteristically wasn’t sharp against Navy on Friday. He should be ready and can easily eat 3-4 innings. ‘

If they win game 1, then the deciding game would be fascinating to watch from a State pitching point of view.

And the elephant in the room could be this. With Brown only throwing 70 pitches on Friday, and it would be his bullpen day, would he be available for 1-2 innings?

But that is all moot if the offense doesn’t score a good number of runs. And you have to assume that to win the two games, it would mean that the offense has to tag Morrison for a run or two. And he was unhittable yesterday.

Avent will do whatever he has to win the first game. Whoever has anything left in the tank will pitch in the second game if needed. He isn’t thinking beyond the first one I can promise you that.

Clemson goes in the hole quick! That won’t be good for the ACC if they go out early? Of course we all know that Clemson is not the best team in the ACC but pundits will make some silly argument that the ACC tournament champion is out it doesn’t bode well for the ACC.

UVA took a 6-3 lead on EZU to the bottom of the 9th; give up a 5-spot to lose 8-6.

    Dang!!! Pie rate are….

Xavier has their own version of Carlos Rodon, btw. That kid’s good…wish he’d transfer to Raleigh.

Speaking of Rodon the White Sox traded for James Sheilds. Expected to be third in the rotation. Not good for Rodon. He has struggled this year. He is 1-0 in his last three starts. I bet he is still having trouble getting that slider down in the zone.

ECU better not act like a real team and beat UVA. They need to know their place.

Xavier just blew it open after it being a tight game for a bit.

You have to think that the death of the Vandy pitcher then the game being rained out last night put them in a really bad place. I think if they had played last night it would have been better for them. Instead they had time to sit around and dwell on it more. If you haven’t read the details about the drowning it’s horrible.

    RE: Pickle.

The guy on first should have been standing on second, keeping a runner in scoring position following a gaffe.

You are right. The runner was able to make back to second and avoided the tag. But my point was to get in the base path and run him to third and toss relatively quickly. If you don’t get him then make sure he ends up back on second base and not on third where a sac fly scores him. My ultimate point I was making though was not run at him while still on the infield grass. He gives the runner the ability to get around the tag without leaving the base path and possibly being called out for leaving the base path. Just basic positioning yourself.

Bethune-Cookman game had a prime example of how college players don’t even know how to execute the pickle. Bases loaded and no outs. Single to left and the runner on first gets caught in a run down between second and third. Shortstop chases him to third but runs on the infield grass instead of the base path. As he approaches the runner the runner is able to duck under/around the tag without leaving the base path. Shortstop has to get in the baseline and quickly force the runner back to second by tossing the ball to the third baseman fairly quickly. That should be a fairly easy play to execute. Fundamentals.

Gowolves…I have lots of family in Greenwood and lived there for 11 years.

Yeah my brother moved there over twenty years ago after finishing his master’s at SC. He has worked for Lander the entire time. I like Greenwood. It’s a real nice town and the people are wonderful.
