Golden chain: Let me explain the flaw of the current system in picking a President. In other parts of our system, your vote counts equally against all others that voted in that election. Take the local election. Say you are one of only 10 people that voted. Your vote weighs a ton (1/10th of the vote), but it is equal to the votes of the other 9 people that voted. Maybe more people should have voted, but your vote was counted and weighed fairly against the others cast. That’s about as fair as it can be in a system that doesn’t require mandatory voting.
Dear rye, you don’t get it. This country we call The United States of America is a confederation of independent states that agreed to band together for the purpose of defense and trade. Nothing has changed in the last 240 years in that regard. Why do you think there is such an uproar with certain legislation and mandates out of Washington verses “states rights”? Not a month goes by that you don’t hear that.
The entire system of checks and balances was set in place to protect the rights of each state. Otherwise they wouldn’t have signed on. In fact some didn’t and The Bill of Rights had to be added. I’m sorry if you don’t like that or think a more across the board system should be set in place but I would argue that you don’t understand, or accept how the country was set up or functions. You want an all powerful and controlling central government where the states basically have no say, the boarders are just lines on a map.
Thank God other people don’t see it that way.
We have state courts and Federal courts, we have state laws and Federal laws. We have local and state officials elected by simple majority and we have those elected by simple majority to serve in the Federal bodies. And each state is allotted electoral votes based on the number of the number pf representatives they have in Congress. The House being based on population and the Senate being an all-equal body.
I didn’t make this up, this is all easily verifiable.
Now maybe you don’t like that system or think an updated system would be better however a majority of us disagree with you so guess what? You’re stuck with this one until 2/3 of the states agree to change something (per the Constitution).
So hey, it is what it is.GoldenChainParticipantThis is what I don’t get about the “Putin wants Trump to win” side:
Hillary would have rolled over like she did in the bed of Bill’s El Camino in college for Putin. Donald is obviously a much harder to figure and manipulate so why in the h@ll would the Kremlin have favored Trump over Hillary?!
I don’t get it.
GoldenChainParticipantBC beating Wake and both being bowl eligible means a race to the bottom.
I’m thinking the Fort Apache, Maryland, or Shreveport. All sh!tty places to play a college bowl game.Just pointing out that I called this. However I think we did draw an opponent with equally stellar cerdentials. We might actually beat them unlike MSU last year.
GoldenChainParticipantYogi: I respectfully suggest that I know more about that topic of how to build that system than anyone on this thread. It absolutely can be built and effectively be tamper proof. If the Federal government wanted to give me a grant, I could lead a team to do it.
Let me see if I understand this: you just said that if the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GAVE YOU OUR TAX MONEY Y.O.U. could lead a team to effectively overthrow the Constitution by putting in place an electronic popular voting system that would basically allow about 8 or so metro areas impose their will on the entire country every 4 years. The candidates could reduce their carbon election footprint considerably for sure! No New Hamshire crap or Iowa crap or SC primary crap anymore. Just LA, SF, Chicago, Boston, Philly, NYC, and DC. carry those and carry the country.
Brilliant.
You need a grant of TAX MONEY because no way you could sell that idea in the arena of public discourse and get anywhere close to achieving.
….and some wonder why Boomers have disdain for Millennials.GoldenChainParticipantSome other quick thoughts:
– A representative Democracy is an idea that is past its time. It was primarily put in place to protect the interests of white, land owning males and to figure out what to do about slave populations. That’s not the country we live in any more, and the system should be changed to reflect that.Oh really? They were just greedy white male slaveholders wanting to protect their wealth. Nothing to do with wanting a different system than they had in Europe where the ultra wealth fiefdoms were ruled by tyrants. Of course not! They just wanted to create their own version of that over here but making themselves the robber barons!
And a Representative Republic with the electoral college system is an idea that’s past its time?! I think not. The whole system was developed by Hamilton (not wealthy, not slave holder) to equalize the power of the high population cities of Philly, Boston, and NY. Then as now they could have dictated to the rest of the colonies how things would be and quite several colonies would NOT sign the Constitution until an equalizing factor was put in. Fortunately to change the Constitution would take 2/3 of the states ratifying some kind of popular vote system. I give that a snowball’s chance in hell of ever happening for the same reason today as it was 240 years ago: the rest of the country doesn’t want NYC, Boston, Philly, LA, San Fran picking the President.11/26/2016 at 8:22 PM in reply to: Combo Thread: Rivalry weekend and Pack vs. Loyola (Chicago) @ 4 pm. #111447GoldenChainParticipantI have this idea when we get all the pieces together about ACC time this could be a surprise (the pleasant kind and we sure could use that at NCSU!) and special team. All the pieces and talent are there this year and expectations are low. I just have a feeling this could be a breakout team.
GoldenChainParticipantGuys I won’t say a decent win didn’t prompt me to look for company but the reality is I haven’t been on any message boards for about two years now because of Pharaoh expecting me to increase my brick production and took away my straw!
Boy….glad I was missed!LOL
GoldenChainParticipantI just want a good teevee game, maybe Johnny Reb beats the Cowbells tomorrow and qualifies?
I’m in Ohio visiting my youngest who is an NFL scout and he knows Doren and has meet him in Raleigh. And like he told me: almost 100% of college coaches were basically high school jocks that became graduate assistants that eventually led to being some kind of assistant coach that somehow led to being a head coach. These guys didn’t go to Cotillion or charm school growing up, they’re basically jocks who are now thrust into the public spotlight. Most handle it like Doeren and Tom Reed never embracing the public side of the role. Others grow into it over time, Free-dora probably; then some truly love the spotlight and are naturals like V and Gott. The most successful coaches somehow usually figure out how to manage that side of the job. Doeren hasn’t.
That being said my son also thinks school are way to quick to pull the trigger, he says a coach needs 5 years to fully make the program his.GoldenChainParticipantThis is my favorite topic! It was 1982, 2 years after my graduation and I was living in Hickory. I was at a dinner dance along with some folks I attended church with and one friend who didn’t go to unx but was a big fan brought a bunch of his App St unx fan buddies. I went into the bathroom where a bunch of guys were standing around shooting the sh!t when one guy says “and his WIFE went to State!” (yes we met our 1st weekend in Raleigh and the rest is history after 4 years of college and 36 1/2 years of marriage thank you very much, how’s your miserable life going?). One drunk ASU grad unx fan says “I’d rather say my wife was a whore than say she went to NC STATE!!!!” I resisted the urge to pop him in front of so many witnesses, two of which were attorneys, but that sealed it! Before that I sort of took the live and let live attitude toward college rivalries but no more. After that it was ‘take no prisoners’! And that’s the life I’ve lived for 34 years. GO TO HELL XAROLINA!!!!
GoldenChainParticipantWhat amazes me is Tyler’s play after getting benched earlier in teh season. he is a good boarderline great PG. All he needs is to pick up his scoring. Heck, he even had a bunch of rebounds amongst the trees.
We have the advantage of having the cobwebs off of us and hopefully we can pick up where we left off last night at 11.GoldenChainParticipantGreat piece VA. I was reading it last night and thinking:
How many guys like Lunardi, the guys who project NFL/NBA draft orders, the preseason pollsters, Jeff Saragin, guys who do power-rankings, h-s recruit rankings, etc make a hellofalot of jack off of pure speculation. Probably most of it more subjective than yours VA.
Does anyone ever go back and check how these guys do in actuality?
GoldenChainParticipantI think with a 5TD lead near the end of the 3rd we can officially say its over.
GoldenChainParticipantOMG! has anyone ever come back from 4TDs down in the 2nd half in any NFL game much less the SB?!
GoldenChainParticipantI think it would have been more important to get something on the board before halftime. Instead they give it up on downs.
I told my youngest that as usual, manning self destructs in a postseason game after a spectacular season. But hey, 30 minutes left.
GoldenChainParticipantCount me in as not seeing the problem. Ever since they schedule expansion to 12 games the only thing that has happened is that all the schools added a “pre-season” game.
Give me a real game for my money and be ready to suit up on labor day weekend.
As far as ND, I hope State gets to play them every year. That will be the marquee game on everyone’s schedule when they’re on it.Good Lord, a lot of the Forum posters whinned about moving to a better conference for 2 years then the ACC beefs-up and now you’re complaining that you’ll have to play an extra game againsta decent opponent.
GoldenChainParticipantI don’t understand.
Paige and Macadoo have come out of their slump and been on fire the last 5 (now 6) games. We did manage some gutsy wins with with Warren on the bench in the last week but let’s face it, we just ‘got by’ in those wins. Xarolina has some WTFreak L’s but also some big wins. They were a 12 point favorite according to yesterday’s Observer. We lost by 14, and now people are upset that we didn’t win on the road at their place (after all we’ve won how many there in the last 30 years)?!
What were you thinking?! Seriously.A couple of observations I’ve had all season:
– we can’t hit a FT, especially when it matters like on the front end of a 1 & 1.
– our big men are flat footed too often.Period.
– our small line-up is better than our big line-up, if I had a sugegstion I’d tell Gott to do what Roy did last year and switch it up mid-season and start small and fast then when the game settles in bring in the bigsI look at it this way: we’ve obvioulsy had a couple of total cave-in games and I was worried early that this would be another but it didn’t turn out that way so that’s progress because if Roywonderboy could have buried us by 30 he would have.
01/20/2014 at 2:49 PM in reply to: Difference between Russell Wilson vs Colin Kaepernick (and NFL open thread) #37753GoldenChainParticipantOne of the main differences is I have a football signed by RW!
GoldenChainParticipantYou know, this IS a BIG DEAL and will help our rep and status immeasurably. I was wondering about the federal $$ coming to State and figured the neoconservatives would have a melt down and say this should have been a 100% joint venture between industry and the school. But hey, other countries support their industry through their reasearch institutions (and more directly as well) and I’d rather see tax money spent to create future jobs here than wasted elsewhere.
01/20/2014 at 7:36 AM in reply to: Difference between Russell Wilson vs Colin Kaepernick (and NFL open thread) #37727GoldenChainParticipantAlpha I was right there with ya on RW. Glad I was wrong and glad he hasn’t shunned his NCSU roots after the wayTOB treated him.
I didn’t mention this but during The Armed Forces Bowl there was a RW commercial that ran non-stop. Really played up the Wisconson thing.
It dawned on me that this bowl was sponsored by UA (my biggest customer BTW)and I figured that Wisc is a UA school while we are Adidas and that was at least part of the reason.GoldenChainParticipantI think his recruiting is impressive given the results from this past season and how short-sighted most 17/18yos are. If he can get a season or two of modest success I think the sky is the sky is the limit for DD’s recruiting.
