GoldenChainParticipant
However, I would vacate our wins from a crappy season if it meant the Cheaters lose a banner… I’d make that trade every day of the week!
I think Debbie should throw down the gauntlet and offer to vacate all our wins last year if all the other schools will vacate their wins from all the seasons implicated in the probe!!!!!!
LOL
GoldenChainParticipantVA I’ll accept that 8:49 response. I do accept that the mid-majors want and actually need a bigger piece of the pie (because I honestly believe at some point the Powers 5s will likely split off somehow and the NCAA needs to groom a new base).
There is still a part of me that thinks the ads fund the payouts (which is another reason the mid-majors complain when they get shunned) so there is a balancing act going on behind the scenes and then throw in the shoe-gate and people getting palms greased to showcase the wares of certain players, and some of those palms are likely on the committee.
It will be interesting.GoldenChainParticipantOut of the country but was checking the score on the phone at dinner. Looks like we jumped out early, played fugly, kept them at arms distance then used our conditioning to stretch a little at the end. I’m sure that’s an over-simplification but shooting 56% from the field, 52% from 3 and 77% from the charity stripe is going to win you most games. And even though I see some complaints about D the fact you held your opponent to 38% is a fantastic defensive effort even though you gave up some OR. As someone else said when you miss that many shots you have a lot of opportunities for rebounds.
Survive and advance.GoldenChainParticipantYou know there is some ball to be played but I couldn’t be more pleased. We saw early flashes with Sid, and heck even with Gott on that thrilling run his 1st season but honestly this has a fundamentally different feel to me and hey, I’ve been a fan since ’73 so I’ve seen some stuff.
Keatts is that mid-major up and comer had been hoping we could find (just like V).A kid was picking at me after we lost to unx the other day and I told him “we beat you in football, we split in men’s basketball, and our women swept yours, I’ll take that every year!”
GoldenChainParticipantGC, the wife got me a smoker for my birthday and I must admit the first boston butt I smoked came out REALLY tasty. AND much less work than my previous methods for cooking them. The new smoker, like my wife, is a keeper.
DUDE! THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKIN ABOUT!
I think your wife is a keeper too!
I honestly don’t make it the same way twice!GoldenChainParticipantI’m looking for an ugly game as botb is. I think the Pack is scrappy and driven at this point and will ‘play through’ their stupidity.
I’m fine with determination over beauty at this point, hey at my age I’m fine with determination over beauty in many respects! (although I will quickly add that Ms GC is still pretty hot).GoldenChainParticipantI love ya like a brother but my wife (Summa Cum Laude MED ’80 and Golden Chain the year before I got in) has always told me “worry is like paying on debit you not ever owe”. She’s a lot smarter than this “lint head”. I pass it on as advice.
GoldenChainParticipantToday’s Observer says UVA, Nova, Xavier, Purdue, Auburn, Kansas, Duke, Cincy, Clemson, Texas Tech, Michigan State, unx, Tennessee, tOSU, ‘Zona (Sean was on the big dollar agent gravy train and some of you were foolish enough to think he would come to Raleigh? Why would he do that?), Oklahoma.
Should we have our feelings hurt we’re not in the “A” group?

GoldenChainParticipantI don’t think so. The Selection Committee is made up of athletic directors and conference commissioners. I believe that they work to get the best teams because they would want their teams treated just fairly in the future. In the end, most of the bitching comes from (a) idiotic talking heads (See Digger Phelps and Dickie V), (b) talking heads trying to stir up controversy (everyone at CBS), or (c) mid-majors that want an invite even though they didn’t beat anyone.
Funny I thought it was about something else? Agents, exposure, profiling talent so they can get more lucrative contracts, money to the coaches that showcase the agents players.

But hey I’m just an old cynical dude, I’m sure you’re right Va, its about the purity and integrity of the game.
I would also think the NCAA would be highly sensitive to ratings so they can sell advertising but again, I’m sure metrics wins out in this process. Just the businessman in me, the analytical engineer in me left 3 years out of college when I went into sales and marketing.GoldenChainParticipantTractor I travel a ton and always have and I don’t care where you go they think what they call BBQ is the best! That being said #3 son went to college and worked a while in Chicago and he took me to a BBQ place that was about as NC as you will get in Chicago. Was great.
GoldenChainParticipantVa using your criteria then State should be an automatic in. After all if its about television ratings and possible upsets then wouldn’t people rather watch a team that’s beaten several ranked teams go up against a top seeded team knowing that there could be a good chance of an upset brewing or a Cinderella in the making? Our OOC SOS drags us down but the reality is we are much more likely to beat a seeded team and make a run and that’s what viewers want to see after all (it’s what I want to see). However a team that had a higher OOC SOS that really hasn’t beaten anyone of note can get in ahead of us.
Looks to me like that’s just the NCAA trying to insulate themselves from the criticism so we’ll just have to agree to disagree.GoldenChainParticipantBBQ Center is by far the best place in Lexington (more moist and not just cooked pork with sauce on it) and if you’re still hungry they have this ice cream thing with a scoop of a bunch of things and a squirt of several toppings.
Don’t know what BBQ festival you guys went to but the one I attended had like a half dozen stands from different places.
Of course the best place is GC’s spit! I smoke a butt and then chop it into 1 1/2# freezer bags and pull it out and use some occasionally (like last night!).
3 weeks ago tomorrow mymen’s group did a whoelhog, 12 butts, 8 racks of rib and for the heck of it a brisket not to mention however many chicken quarters we did.
GoldenChainParticipantYou know, I’ve been thinking…. your sister ain’t half bad either!
POP!!!!!!!!!
GoldenChainParticipantPOP!!!!!
(just to quote someone else)
One game a year is the perfect solution for old men…
IF it’s the ‘right’ game…
———————————–
I’d want to dig a little deeper into the numbers and the logic and ‘Student Issues’…1. In general…Student populations have grown faster than stadium seats, so, on the face of things, it seems ‘expected’ for student % to drop…
2. The geographical areas from which students come and to which they go after graduation to get jobs has greatly expanded over the years. Again this seems to suggest that a drop in attendance would be ‘expected’ among younger alum…
3. The impact of massive college loans limits the financial ability of many graduates for years after graduation… Again this seems to suggest that a drop in attendance would be ‘expected’ among younger alum…
The clear point here is that none of the above has anything to do with “game day experience”. More importantly, spending money on “game day experience” won’t fix 1 thru 3 above…
We had this conversation last year after football season…
B’rer Roo and I crafted the solution…
1. Free football tickets
2. $25 admission to the parking lots… Lots open at 10am regardless of game time…
3. Live music and Beer for sale in every parking lotOpens up ‘new markets’ and new revenue sources…
——————-btw… B’rer Roo is notHere but Here!
GO PACK!
02/15/2018 at 2:09 PM in reply to: Never Too Early To The Hate Going… UN* game thread 2/10/18 #130801GoldenChainParticipantI view the HWSNBN supporters as the NCSU grads that go to work for a Fortune 500 company and work in a cubicle all their careers. They get a cost of living raise every year and a Honeybaked Ham at the “holiday break” and have taken TONS of sensitivity training. A good, comfortable, smooth, predictable life somewhere within the control limits of success and failure (i.e. mediocrity) but they never experience exceptionalism or true unbridled success.
Of course they drank the Bilas G’man kool aid of “State’s best years are behind them, just stay down, don’t get up, or you’ll get another shiner”.GoldenChainParticipantIf any of players or money was being funnelled to Raleigh from any brands the last couple years we need to be proactive and SUE the bystyrds!
At least Mikey was able to deliver enough resources to xh to deliver some banners!GoldenChainParticipantOr at least re-set it so we can vote again!
BTW, Archie is 15-12 and NOT on the bubble this season.
What do you think…could Archie have done better than Keatts this season if he had come to Raleigh?GoldenChainParticipantWell Tex, we’ve won a lot more on the road this year in the league than any I can remember recently and that’s with a rag-tag group of grad transfers etc. But to your point, we don’t want to freak-up in Winston.
GoldenChainParticipantWhat the NCAA is trying to do is set up an analytical system that basically takes all responsibility off of them to make any decisions.
GoldenChainParticipantBetter watch out, the NCAA has been so tough recently, they don’t put up with any “stuff”!
GoldenChainParticipantWell I don’t get the whole SOS thing anyway. We played AZ, Tennessee (power 5 19-6), Penn St (18-9) in the pre-season then our conference slate, seems like that would qualify as a decent SOS to me. Listen once you get below like 100 or so in the power ranking you’re pretty much splitting hairs aren’t you? I expect NCSU to beat the 120 RPI team by as much as we should beat the 250 team. What this means is some patsies that front loaded with power 5 school to get their cut of the gate and got killed have a higher sos than we do so their 17-9 record means more than our 17-9 record?
GoldenChainParticipantI had to flip away occasionally it was so hard to watch! I think its remarkable that we did win and a tribute to KK. I’ve mentioned that Bones McKinney was my neighbor for 7 years back in the 80s and he always told me that E Case always said “when you play ugly and win you have some good ball ahead of you!”
The dumb TOs primarily on trying to force passes, especially bounce passes, into traffic just kill me. And every game we seem to overthrow the snowbird on a break away when its not necessary.
But all that said, we won in a hostile environment against a K-esque coach and his officiating crew. Hard fought and scrappy performance. What was lacked in execution was made up for in effort and tenacity. And effort and tenacity are welcome changes in raleigh after decades of the opposite.GoldenChainParticipantExcellent and realistic. This was/is a thrown together team that features grad students, transfers, and one decent freshman. I think the faithful got our hopes up a little too high with some successes along the way but the reality is this team isn’t a representation of what a KK team will look like 3 years from now.
In fact I came in thinking this would be a ‘throw away season’. I figured we would look like Wake does this year. Let’s face it, we just don’t have a ton of talent to work with here.
In that regard I’m more than pleased with how we’ve done.02/12/2018 at 6:36 AM in reply to: Never Too Early To The Hate Going… UN* game thread 2/10/18 #130464GoldenChainParticipantWell our women swept unx yesterday coasting to a 19 pt win.
02/10/2018 at 12:51 PM in reply to: Never Too Early To The Hate Going… UN* game thread 2/10/18 #130290GoldenChainParticipantA man can’t hate anything much worse than I hate unx. Palustininians/Jews, Sunis/Shia they got got nothing on me. Beat those bystards guys!
