I will be quite disappointed if our AD lets the conference allow Hess to ever do another game. He is given an opportunity to demonstrate he can control his emotions. Instead he immediately comes in and starts his same petulant attitude again.

No way Gott tried to get that tech. Hess isn’t worth it.
    Hess as issues.

Well I agree it is disturbing that with Rodon and Turner returning and the preseason ranking the team has underperformed significantly.

It seems that I heard that Avent was concerned about personnel losses in the relief staff since the beginning of the season. That apparently was overshadowed early on with the puny run support. Then as we seemed to have righted that ship after the Clemson series the weak bullpen Avent was initially concerned about finally materialized.

I am not one who would say a coaching change is imminent but next year’s
season must bounce back to previous standards. One down season where we miss the ACC tournament is not enough to change coaches…..two of those in a row & its time to start looking. NCState should never miss the tournament.

I hope that won’t happen again.

I agree with Wilm80. Any talk of a coaching change is absurd. Gottfried has displayed that he understands completely how to get into the NCAA Tournament.
I think he has done an excellent job in understanding our rivalries & appreciating them but not getting so obsessed that it becomes an unwieldy burden. The recruiting has certainly improved with the only possible issue being how will it go when the top assistants eventually take other jobs.

I hear the radio talking heads talking like this season was a disappointment.
This past season exceeded expectations by anyone’s measure. We were supposed to finish 10th and instead finished high enough to avoid the Wednesday games in Greensboro.

Gott understands the territory he is in and I think he appreciates the pressure of expectations as that translates into more interest in basketball than any he hoped to have at Bama.

Its fun to talk of future coaches but not in the context of assuming there are serious problems with coach Gott.

Well Jigawatts that seems to be a perfect description of whats going to happen with the foul situation. And it does seem to happen that way. Is that a tongue in cheek Wolfpack paranoia description or a serious comment on what State has to endure on the road in the ACC?

If its the latter, & it’s that obvious, how does the Commish and his head of officiating keep allowing that with a straight face? All I can think about is the debacle at Duke a couple of years ago where the huge lead vanished as our players did too.

Love hearing this news. Coach Doeren really is light years ahead of our former coach. Specifically that he actually tries to recruit the 4 and 5 star players. Instead of our former coach saying something like “I prefer to recruit 1 & 2 stars and turn them into 4 & 5 stars”. Yeah TOB how did that work out?

Anyway does anyone know if the running back(forgot his name) from Havelock has made his commitment yet? Is it still down to State, UGa & Tenn?

    Thanks

You are correct Key about different eras however there is still a bias to pound the non basketball schools all the while treading lightly on the royalty such as UNC , etc.

I just hope that those that have been critical of the NCAA, such as Jay Bilas, will turn up their volume even more to expose the corruption that is the NCAA. Let’s face it, the NCAA pounds the football schools with harsh penalties but rarely hits their top basketball schools. If they penalize a school’s basketball team with harsh penalties its usually not one of the so called blue bloods. Bottom line is as long as the NCAA makes the millions it does on the basketball tournament it will look the other way if the North Carolinas, Kansas’, & Kentuckys of this world violate rules.

This has been going for decades. Take a look at John Wall. I don’t even remember what the violations were after Wall went to Kentucky but I do remember that he only had to sit out 3 to 4 games at the beginning of the season. Contrast that to 1971 and the harsh punishment State got over the so called recruitment of David Thompson. The oh so serious violations were a few short minutes of participation by young assistant coach Biedenbach in a pick up game AFTER Thompson had signed with State. Maybe also a $7 tab that didnt get paid by Thompson for sleeping in one of the dorms across from Carmichael during the summer coach’s camps. These dreadful occurences resulted in an entire lost undefeated season in which State was prohibited from any tournaments. How does that match up with Wall only sitting out a few games? That was the appropriate punishment and one that should have been applied to the misdemeanors involving Thompson.

The other influence of catering to one of the NCAA’s “preferred” programs is that both State and Duke ended up with some type of probation after Thompson’s recruitment was all over. It seems to me that revered Dean Smith was petulant about losing Thompson and seemingly pulled strings to punish the schools that dared to challenge Smith in recruiting Thompson.

As much as Smith admirably cared about all of his players he also expected special treatment for UNC from the NCAA whether it was punishing the “ne’re do wells” who might have success over UNC in recruiting or whining about “too rough” play such as when Big East member Boston College beat the Heels in Richmond early in the NCAA tournament in the ’90’s. The Eagles pounded UNC inside and Smith moaned and groaned afterward about the rough play. Smith was used to the powder puff officiating he preferred in the ACC.

They are more examples of this NCAA bias favoring the big time basketball schools and its time, in my opinion, to reorganize it without the political cronies who have influence over the NCAA or, even better, start a new association of collegiate athletics where the Swoffords and Smiths of this collegiate world dont have any influence.
