ParticipantOutrageous College Football Predictions for the ACC in 2017
By J.P. Scott, 8/14/17, 9:00 AM EDTNC State will win the Atlantic Division
It won’t be pretty early on. It’ll look like a muddy horse race full of close games and round-robin outcomes between three or four teams. But at the end of the season, the horse that separates from the Atlantic pack will be the Wolfpack. They return 16 total starters on offense and defense from a team that nearly knocked off both Florida State and Clemson last season. And with the race still close at the end of this season, NC State will get to close out its campaign against Boston College, Wake Forest and North Carolina.
*Remember, “outrageous” can be defined as “wildly exaggerated or improbable,” and “very bold, unusual, and startling.” These are “outrageous” predictions and should be treated as such.https://athlonsports.com/college-football/outrageous-college-football-predictions-acc-2017?amp

ParticipantGreywolf I think I posted some thoughts on Wolfpack football in another thread and some of my reasoning behind it. I can’t seem to find the thread. If I do I may repost it.
A quick summary. I think the D will be better this year than last year. I think the offense will be better this year than last year. I think the Pack should win at least 8 games this year and at least split their conference games. If superior decisions are made and executed well and the ball bounces the right way maybe, maybe, they can win 10 games. I don’t think they will be playing for a conference championship but of course I hope I am wrong.freshmanin83
ParticipantSo the cold water is that N.C. State will probably not contend for the conference title. Hmmm not sure if that is cold water to most on these boards but maybe I am mistaken. I was encouraged by people saying that the Pack has an outside chance at making some noise this year might mean that they would do better than usual not actually be in an BCS game.

ParticipantGreywolf I like your passion but I think you are making his point. He is siding with the majority of strong opinions.

Friday August 11th, 2017But there are always a handful of teams that exceed preseason expectations. These are the outfits that, for whatever reason, weren’t given much of a shot at winning many games or competing for a prestigious bowl.
The Wolfpack wouldn’t be flying this far under the national radar had they won one of two close games last season. The first was a 24–17 overtime loss at eventual national champion Clemson in October in which NC State kicker Kyle Bambard missed a 33-yard field goal at the end of regulation. The second was a four-point home defeat to Florida State in November wherein the Wolfpack led deep into the fourth quarter, only for Seminoles quarterback Deondre Francois to hit NFL-bound wideout Travis Rudolph for a 19-yard touchdown with just over three minutes remaining one play after nearly throwing a potentially game-sealing interception.
NC State takes just one of those close decisions, and it heads into this season as the clearest threat to shake up the ACC’s duopoly. Instead, the Wolfpack have been reduced to scrapping for “Others receiving votes” love, and Dave Doeren is showing up on coaching hot seat lists. Doeren needs to offer evidence of progress in 2017; the Wolfpack have posted a 25–26 record during his four years in Raleigh, and they haven’t notched anything that remotely qualifies as a signature win. That drought ought to end this year, as NC State hosts both Clemson and Louisville, our No. 7 and No. 14 teams, respectively.
But looking beyond their potential to wreak havoc in the upper reaches of the division standings, the Wolfpack should be able to handle business against the ACC’s middle class without much fuss. Their defensive line is big and ferocious, and it’ll stop opposing running games in their tracks while stud end Bradley Chubb causes problems off the edge.
NC State is experienced on the other side of the the trenches, where second-team all-conference guard Tony Adams returns, and offensive coordinator Eliah Drinkwitz will have two fun playmakers (Jaylen Samuels and Nyheim Hines) and a returning starter at quarterback (Ryan Finley) to work with. If NC State can turn even one of 2016’s close losses into a W and avoid a head-scratching toe stub on the order of its 21–14 home loss to Boston College, it’s hard to imagine 2017 not being Doeren’s most fruitful campaign in Raleigh to date.freshmanin83
ParticipantCBS lists Wolfpack at 23 in its preseason ranking.

ParticipantJust saying…
HAPPY 4TH of JULY to all YA’LL….
Greatest “American” Song ever written here…
Forget that Trump and the Ruskies are friends…
POP!!!
Huzza we are back to political discussions I guess.
Ok since you brought it up I will bite. What has forgetting or not forgetting Trump and Ruskies being friendly or unfriendly have anything to do with the 1812 Overture?
I think I get and idea of using a song that has strains of La Marseillaise and God Save the Tsar! in an American independence celebration as being interesting. I think playing this in some places in conjunction with the 4th of July (I personally have never been to a 4th celebration and ever heard this tune) became popular in 1974 when the Boston Pops did it.
I don’t personally associate the two and not sure how many Americans do but I have heard of it being done. I like the song and think it is a great composition.
Not sure what your political comment has to do with it but ready to be enlightened.
Yeah, I am bored.

Participantfreshmanin83, he was a wide receiver for the Colts. One of Peyton Manning’s favorite targets. When he and Peyton were locked in, it was beautiful. Hence all the talk about music.
Hmmm, I was thinking that his name was Marvin and that the only George connection would have been Jeff George who was traded for the pick used to select Marvin or err … George you say. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

ParticipantDidnt the President of Maryland call for the unc death penalty? Not sure what good it did but at least someone has some courage. Maybe they left the acc( advancing carolina cheating ) for some place a bit more fair minded.

ParticipantI believe defense is the single most important factor in the success or failure of a basketball team. I feel that building a competitive basketball team requires a heavy emphasis on the defense. A team that makes the fewest mistakes will win most consistently, and a team that plays hard, sound defense will make fewer mistakes. At the same time, this team will force its opponents into making mistakes. It should be the goal of every team to control the game and I feel that this can best be achieved by an aggressive defense. Defense is a three part program:
Stop the transitional or fast-break basket.
Take away (as much as possible) what the offense is designed to do on their offensive end of the floor.
Limit a team to just one shot with tenacious defensive rebounding.freshmanin83
ParticipantI wish I could tell you that. I can’t. I do expect to see improvement if it is of the kick ass variety that would be awesome. This speculation stuff is fun. I like the way you think better than the way I think. Tell me more.
freshmanin83
ParticipantWhen they kick off in Charlotte I will begin to pay close attention, until then I can’t really find any thing to get most Wolfpack fans excited. Speculation is not a fact based endeavor, looking forward, that is.
Ah the voice of one speaking for most Wolfpack fans, thank you. ; )
As my grandma might have put it, well bless your heart for sharing why you have nothing that excites you about Wolfpack football. That you would take the time to tell us your thoughts about speculation is just like you, you little sport model.
Come on lighten up I am just bustin your chops a little bit.
I am a fan of the Pack and like to speculate. My grandpappy speculated a bit a did all right. At least to hear him tell it. : )

ParticipantI agree about qb play needing to improve. Last year he threw for 18 td’s and if I remember correctly 9 happened in the first 4 games. A bit more production against better opponents is desired.
freshmanin83
ParticipantHuzza for the Pack. I watched most of the game when sling wasn’t pitching fits. They do like to keep it interesting. Seemed to strand a lot of runners on bases. That last homer in top of the 9th to pull within one got my attention. Go Pack. Is it 7 tomorrow?
freshmanin83
ParticipantHmm I was thinking that everything I need to know about the upcoming regular football season would likely be revealed in Raleigh in late November.
