As I started to read this article…my thought was…which Terp player was going to up his game and be the person responsible for the @ss whipping we are going to receive tonight…

And then, as I read on, I was reminded that Dez Wells is a Raleigh native…

Now, Dez (to Maryland through Xavier), averages 14pts per game, so he shouldn’t sneak up on us as some previously unknown wunderkind have in the past…but still…

I’m predicting that Dez goes off for 31 pts, shooting 5-8 from the 3pt line, and hitting 10 free throws.

Result UMD 82, NCSU 55. At least this time we keep the differential under 30.

I’ve been an NC State basketball fan since 1985 (sorry that I missed 1983, but, sh*t happens). I’ve held season tickets during the Les Robinson, Herb Sendek, and Sidney Lowe era.

Saturday was the first time in all of those years that I’ve ever turned a game off early.

We appeared unprepared, under coached, and severely lacking in talent. I’m not saying that we should have won the game, but we weren’t competitive and didn’t really appear interested in being competitive.

That was, IMHO, Gott’s worst coaching performance, and for the first time, I’m starting wonder if Gott’s got what it takes to lead us out of this cess pool of mediocrity. I’m willing to give him a break for having a young team and everything, but this was just a disaster. Like the games against Missouri and Pitt, just punch us in the gut and we surrender.

Once is an anomaly, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern. If you throw UNCG into the mix, four times is a habit.

This has been pretty standard for the holes this year. They will probably beat Syracuse, just so we can continue to have the stories of their “Roller coaster” year override the stories about how their athletes can’t read.

In fact, if we didn’t know that they were all dumb as rocks, I’d accuse them of planning this, just to provide cover until Friday.

I think the quote from Wes says it all:

“I don’t think that’s so much about coaching or about me,” Moore said. “It’s about them. They wanted to step up and win so I think it started there. I always tell teams: It’s your team, we’re going to do as well as y’all want to do. I can’t make you buy in, I can’t make you work hard. We’re going to do as well as you want to do — and these kids have wanted to do well.”

I wish all of our teams had this attitude.

    Go Pack, beat them Heels!

From McCombs, this is nothing but sour grapes. Someone forgot to ask his opinion (or even worse, ignored it when it was shared without asked), and hired a d@mned good football coach, so now he has his panties in a wad.

You wait, 3 years from now, when (if) Texas is consistently back on the top 5 and playing in the playoff most years, he will let it be known that Strong was always his number 1 choice, and that we are remembering his “kick in the face” comment out of context.

I’m with Poppa John, I think the “soft press” made a world of difference. Sure, ND made a couple of easy layups on the deal, but for the most part it made ND uncomfortable and ate into their shot clock.

When the announcers kept remarking about buckets quiet game, they never did notice that he was one of the keys in the “soft press”.

Personally, I thought the substitution pattern for the PG position worked very well. Cat is a great player and will only get better, but giving him the opportunity to watch, rest, and think while WBS was running the show. I also enjoyed seeing Des (hey, he doesn’t have a nickname…no fair) at point for a short period, giving Cat the freedom to roam.

Unfortunately, my Christmas wish of a 2nd 3pt threat wasn’t answered by the fat man. BSW is shooting 43%, but next in line (for the people actually seeing minutes) is Cat at 31% (WBS is shooting a woeful 14%, imagine how much more playing time he might get if he was shooting 40%?)

Can’t say I’m looking forward to watching VA slow the game down to a dirge on Saturday, but I think it’s a winnable game…as long as we don’t go up big.

I’m using Chrome and I don’t see any dead possums, skunks, polar bears, victory formations, or anything else…except possibly echo’s of AJ McCarron’s mom hating on Jameis Wilson

The biggest issue I’m seeing so far is that we haven’t yet stabilized to consistent performances, including buckets (yes, TJ is consistently getting 20-30 points, but hasn’t been able to score down the stretch in the last couple of games).

I suspect that Gott may tighten up his line-up starting with Pitt to try to nail the consistency. On the other hand, part of the consistency problem is foul issues for Cat and the Vandwagon, which are what is forcing us to play so many players.

Either way, the preseason is over and it’s time to get our game together.

    Go Pack!

That was interesting, but from my perspective, obvious. It will also do little to thwart the myriad of articles that come out on the same subject this year. Stories about teams losing money on big bowl games sell better than stories about conferences making butt-loads of money on them.

The great thing about league play is that it will raise the RPI of most of the conference, so and early conference season victory over currently #97 Notre Dame could become a top 50 or 60 victory by the end of the year.

I agree with the notion that if we win 12 we are a lock. We we really need to ask for is our team to play in an un-NC State like manner, which is to win the games we should win (which would give us 10 wins according to the current RPI ratings) and pick off 2 of the 8 that we shouldn’t.

And for every WTF! we have from here on out, we need to beat a Duke, Pitt, Syracuse, UN* to make up for it.

Personally, I’m looking forward to watching this team grow.

Nice when things work out the way they should…I have to wonder though, if UN* didn’t have those big wins, would they have been more interested in keeping PJ around?

Things that make you say huh?

Hopefully we are seeing a trend here. It appears that DD has been able to “explain” the 2013 season, and potentially leverage it as a opportunity for playing time.

Nothing like PT and TV to get a recruit excited (that and the all-black uni’s).

Unfortunately, we’ve gone past “what have you done lately” to “what was the last thing you’ve done” in doing performance appraisals.

It’s been hashed over any number of times, but if he was hired today, and performed the same as he did in his first 3 seasons (38-47 overall, 13-29 in the ACC), then Coach K would have been fired before he had a chance to win 171 ACC titles and 47 national championships.

It’s great that the people at Big Lead Sports needed to write about us to fill up their web-page, but none of that changes anything.

DD has my support for at least 2 more years. After that if there isn’t the appropriate signs of progress, then I’m all for going shopping.

I read this article this morning, and summary what is says is:

    – the Vandwagon was too passive to demand (meaning earn) his playing time when CJ and the boys were still in town
    – Duke and Maryland both had 7 footers that got it together in their last year in college, so of the Vandwagon doesn’t keep this up, it’s because Gott isn’t as good as K and G. Williams
    – The only reason we are play the Vandwagon now is because we really don’t have anyone else to play.

I’m not saying I disagree, just summarizing.
